How can you not remember? Tsss, shoddy. Alcohol destroying brain cells. There's such a difference! I'm in love with English language (although, like Mr Nebelstern here, I'm supposed to get an A* in both).

Right. Inventions. I'll get back to you on that sweatdrop

You guys, we invented the internet too. A minor point, I'm sure..

No we didn't. The internet was invented in the US (ARPANET project).

The World Wide Web was invented by a Brit (Sir Tim Berners-Lee) but he was based in Geneva (CERN) at the time.

Hey, I'm becoming a particle physicist, I make it my business to know the history of major developments at CERN. XD

... English Lang. and Lit. were my worst subjects. <_<

My uncle is a professor of particle physics, cool. Where do you study?

I'm taking up a HEP PhD at UCL after the summer (they are not sure which experiment yet), although I was offered a place at Oxford's particle physics sub-department (CDF group) a week or so ago. I turned it down because I prefer the atmosphere of the UCL HEP group (I completed my M.Sci project in the HEP group and got to know the people there), and I'd prefer to live in London (I didn't like Oxford as a city at all).

Ah, you know your stuff then. No, you'd not have come accross my uncle anywhere along the line. I think he's at Bristol, one of them, I think it's the "lesser" one.

We didn't invent the guillotine, we invented the Halifax, it was exactly the same but the blade was a different shape

Actually, bagpipes are middle-eastern in origin, because a ruler of some kind requested (or more like demanded) that his pipe player play for 24 hours solid, so he attatched a bag to them so he could have a rest

And why does everyone assume that Scotland is not part of Britain?

Yeah, but bagpipes as we know them now are British invented, with all the pipes on. It's like pizza. It was based on an egyptian thing, but made as we know it first in Italy.
