Alister looked up at the Aussie gratefully and let a few tears run down his cheeks. He hadn't been able to picture Valon caring if he died or not.

Valon smiled gently, wiping away the tears. "There there, mate--'s not loike I wouldn't do the same thing any day."
His expression hardened. "Now, back ta work--you feelin' any bettah?"

Valon shrugged. "Suit yeself."
With a small sigh, he sat down cross-legged on the floor, resting his back against the side of the bed. He closed his eyes, thinking. Alister seemed to already be getting better--soon, the redhead wouldn't need him any more.
...Somehow, that thought made him a bit bitter.

Valon pretended top get offended. "Well, excuse me!"
He laughed again. "Glad ta see ye're gettin' back ta bein' yerself, mate."
But as he turned back around, his eyes showed the least bit of distress. Would Alister being back to normal mean that they would go back to arguing all the time? Even back then, he'd found it stressing...
