Contrary to the evidence, Adder wasn't a complete idiot. Was stupid and impulsive at times, but not a complete idiot. It didn't take him very long at all to realize he had a very limited amount of time before Ashley found him. Which was why he set up a very small plan, if only to give himself some sort of chance once the guy showed up. Which really wasn't very long after. Adder had jsut gotten back to fiddling with the case when he felt a hand grab his shirt, and he gasped out as he was jerked back. He snapped his head around to glare at Ashley-- and from the bushes, onto his shoulder, leaped Chikorita. "Chiko!" The pokemon threw a dulled Razor Leaf at the man, not aiming to hurt, but simply aiming to knock him back, and catch him off guard. "Griiiiiiiimmmerrrrrrr....." Oozing from the bushes, Lady joined in, her air freshener (temporarily) taken off, as Adder tried to rip himself free so he could dart around, and use her (and her stench) as a bit of a shield between himself and the man. "What's in here?" he demanded, stubborn as always, despite being out of breath, and essentially cornered.

Ashley’s gaze narrowed, attention snapping up at the Chikorita that suddenly appeared as well to fire a razor leaf at him. He gave a startled yelp, releasing Adder and immediately stepping back to put a few steps of distance between him and the pokemon. The boy was using pokemon against him? Really? What what his deal exactly?!
"Tu es un petit morceau de merde." Ashley swore, about to try and grab Adder again when a horrific stench filled the air and he ended up clamping a hand over his face instead. Ugh, what… a Grimer? It didn’t look like the ones he was familiar with, though stunk all the same. Disgusting. Ashley took a few steps back, pure agitation etched on the features not hidden by a gloved hand. Clever play. Clever, and annoying. This boy was certainly putting the 'pain' in 'pain in the a**'.
"That is none of your business." He snapped at Adder’s demands, stepping back and pointing with his other free hand. "You will return my case to me immediately you little delinquent. Just because I am not a cop does not mean I cannot make a citizen’s arrest and I assure you, you will not enjoy ze consequences." He growled, eyeing the pair of pokemon at Adder’s side as well.

Adder gripped the case tightly, moving it away and narrowing his eyes defiantly. "Clearly it is!" he claimed, "Seeing as I currently possess it. And just how would you make a citizen's arrest if you aren't a cop? Are you some other sort of fed?" He paused a moment, considering the possibility. Or, the guy was just a criminal trying to bluff his way out of this. He secured his grip and stepped back. If he had to, he could battle the guy. Or... let his pokemon be a distraction or something. Though he didn't... really want to ditch them or anything. Much of a jerk as he was at times, he wasn't that cold.
"Besides, you really wanna admit some kid stole your stuff, and lead you on such a chase?" he added, just in case. Hopefully the embarrassment might help make the guy back down, if he really did intend to carry through with his threat.

Ashley stared at Adder in his defiance, his own expression blank but not for a lack of emotion. He was… trying to piece together what was wrong with this boy and it was proving to be difficult. That and his mounting agitation wasn’t helping.
"… You do not need to be a cop to make a citizens arrest. Do they teach you children anything in ze schooling system? Or are the only things you learn nowadays is how to suck your thumbs and act as entitled brats?" He scolded back. "If I were a federal agent, you would be in much deeper s**t then you are now. Is that something you truly wish to deal with?" Thinking about it, he could use that claim… he technically was, working for Interpol, though he didn’t have the same clout as proper agents. Still, the kid wouldn’t know that.
Ashley took a deep breath (sort of, there was still that horrible smell in the air), pushing his glasses up to rub his eyes. Getting worked up and angry wasn’t going to solve this problem and his ego was still a tiny bit bruised from all the earlier commotions with the hacking so … the concern of admitting a child had stolen his things didn’t settle well. Which was sad really.
"Mmm… I suppose….," Ashley dropped his hand down, giving Adder a stern stare. "But then again… I feel you think I am a criminal, mon ami. So maybe I should simply ‘dispose’ of you and take my case back, non?" Ashley folded his arms over his chest, frowning. "I will get it back, I assure you, one way or another. It is simply up to you how that happens." Ashley gestured a hand out towards Adder. "I am tired of this game. I feel you are not naturally this stupid, so why are you so persistent? What is your problem?"

O.... oh. You didn't? Okay but then.... what was a citizen's arrest, exactly? Whatever. So he wasn't a pro at law enforcement. He was thirteen years old. The guy thought he was ten, or something. Why was he so scathing that he wasn't an expert on this stuff? "Yeah, sure, okay, but are you?" he pushed, clearly not backing down at the threat. The guy still wasn't giving him any reason to think he was anything but a sketchy, dodgy, lying criminal.
He stayed stubbornly where he was, but surprisingly, he just bristled at the threat, rather than faltering. "You try it," he snapped back, stepping away in response, "You'll have to battle my pokemon just to get close." He was more than ready to send everyone else out. He might not have had all his strongest pokemon, but some of them were decently strong, he thought. He figured he stood a chance at at least getting the guy to back off.

Ashley continued to stare Adder down, expression blank. So, the kid was willing to bring his pokemon into this as well? For what, a case he couldn’t open? He had guts; no brains but a lot of guts. He frowned and reached for his belt, pulling out a pokeball of his own. "I have pokemon as well, jeune homme. If it is a battle you want, I will oblige." He wasn’t in the business of gunning down pokemon and all. He also wasn’t in the mood to battle some child’s team. Ugh.
Ashley took a moment to think; eyes focused on the ball in hand. Whatever was going through his mind in the moment seemed to annoy him. With a slight sigh, he tucked the ball back at his side, instead maneuvering to a hidden pocket on the strap of his gun holster, producing what looked to be a leather wallet. He turned his gaze to focus on Adder one more, unfolding his wallet and holding it up to reveal what looked to be a badge. Hard to see probably with the distance between them but that wasn’t his problem.

Adder stiffened and his free hand went to his waist, ready to grab a pokeball. He stared intensely at Ashley, but frowned when the man seemed to hesitate and second guess his decision to battle. Adder stared, waiting, before straightening up when the man put his pokeball out, and... pulled out his wallet? What, was he going to try and bribe him or something? He narrowed his eyes when he was shown something, noticing it looked like a badge. He moved a little closer, but not much, pausing, then looking down to Chikorita. The pokemon caught on, and snapped his vines out to try and grab the wallet, so that Adder could get a closer look. It looked like it could be real, but it was hard to tell from the distance, and, well... he wasn't about to get closer.

Ashley wasn’t surprised when Adder attempted to have his pokemon snatch his badge. With the way the kid was acting, he’d expected one of two things; either he would approach himself to look or try and find a way to take it from him. There wasn’t much reason for him to be disappointed when he went with the later. Ashley swiftly yanked his badge and hand out of reach when the vines shot out, using his other to snatch at one and then swat them away, scowling a bit.
"You are nothing but a filthy thief." He snapped, continuing to hold the badge of outreach, eyeing the trio with a frown. "If you want to see it then you must come here. I am not having you steal my badge too." Because if that happened then he would opt to no longer play nice and he felt he was doing a darn good job so far. Even then though, he returned his free hand to his pokeballs in consideration.

Adder scowled. "I wasn't trying to steal it," he stated flatly, a bit too blunt for him to be anywhere close to lying. "I'm not getting close, either. You might try and grab me. But fine, whatever. Ashley didn’t bother to respond to Adder’s claim that he wasn’t attempting to steal his badge; he didn’t believe that for a minute. He only frowned and reached up to the same little wallet, flipping it to a different card holder spot that held a little square piece of plastic that looked much akin to a driver’s license though with clearly different certifications plastered on it. He didn’t lift his gaze from the boy as he did, instead once more returning to holding it up for him to make heads or tails of. He was tired of this honestly; the sooner he got his case the better.

Ashley just stayed in place, unmoving even as Adder semi-approached to try and get a better look. He just gave a grunt when the boy inquired about his name, eyes rolling a moment before finally tucking the wallet away once it became clear that Adder was ‘satisfied’.
He glanced down as his case was offered back to him, expression stern before he promptly snatched it from the boy’s grasp, not at all bothering to remark on the comment concerning his name. He bent at the knee just a bit to bring himself a bit more eye level with the boy (boy, this kid was rather short wasn’t he) before staring at him in silence.
"How old are you?" Ashley demanded, a solid grip now on the case in the event for whatever reason, trouble occurred again. It didn’t seem he very much valued answering Adder’s question at this point in time, instead asking his own.

Ashley watched Adder scowl, not at all phased by the response. Really, he was at the limits of caring for this attitude in general. When Adder remarked about arresting him, the Frenchman just gave a bit of a sneer. In all honesty, he was half tempted to very much haul Adder down to the local precinct, reputation be damned. Punks like this running around and thieving for what… some self-imposed belief that you had to answer their questions? Maybe a taste of a night in cell would teach him something. He eyed Adder though as he finally answered, a bit of a curious expression overcoming his features. Oh, thirteen? He looked (and acted) a lot younger than that. "Hm…," he murmured, straightening up and eyeing Adder a moment longer before turning his attention to the case. He begun to inspect it for any sort of damage beyond the scuffing and scratches from the kid and his brutish handling. "You are a bit short for a thirteen year old."
