Really, all this over a document.
Barth made his slow progress one way, while the thorns dragged the suit in distinctly the opposite direction. Still, Barth managed to have an alarming amount of sharp edges at his heels.
"Sorry, excuse me, just trying to, err-"

Calder stirred from the other world he had been in to be standing in the mist, the room just a room with all of them there - and one extra.
It was a knight, and the gray had Calder nervous but not as much as the giant spear. It all made sense then when he saw the paper behind them. He knew from being told that the paper was their graduation forms.
"It really was all a dream." He whispered, relieved. Barth and Zar hadn't lied to him.....but he still felt weird about all that was shown.
Shaking his head, he knew that taking down this thing was their priority, and without other distractions to stand in his way, fighting was just a simple task.
"Got it!" He said, moving in to help. He dashed forward and went to kick the mental leg of the monster but instantly regretted it the moment his hoof hit, vibrating up his bones and making him feel ill.

He wasn't sure how much he had left in him, already dripping black, slick blood onto the ground when he walked.
But he did not stop.
The javelin was cruel and when it pinned his tail to the ground by going THROUGH it, he shrieked.

He was trying to ignore the blade, honestly, and if only he could get just a bit further-
The suit of armor struggled, lashing out to the best of its abilities and struggling like a mad gardener, but it was just completely drowning in black vines.

But if there was one thing that Zar was not, it was a quitter. Even with his senses screaming from the cuts and scrapes, he refused to back off. This was nothing, this was an obstacle, he could handle it, he had no choice.

Calder jumped when he saw Zar was being torn into, and giving up on the leg, went over to try taking down the statue's hand. if it didn't have one to swim, it couldn't use the spear.
"Hang in there, Zar!" He called out, wanting this battle done. That did not look like a good wound to have, and he felt bad for the affectionate tail that had never done Calder any wrong.
It would need plenty of bandages and kisses later.
Calder went and punched the arm but again, instantly regretted it the moment his fist met metal.
"AHH! It's like hitting a fridge!!!" He whined, frustrated it wasn't more fleshy.

The suit took full advantage of Barth's hesitation, and suddenly he was contending with several angry and squirming pounds of metal and questionable plant material.

Pain was nothing. Pain was just another side of pleasure. Pain was his time at this jackdamned school and he would conquer it.
The steel was slicked black with splatters of his blood and it was beautiful.

Even as his energy withered away to almost nothing, Zar refused to give in, he'd been in that low place, so impossibly low where he'd felt like he'd never ever rise again. There had been no point, he'd come to school and he'd failed at every step of the process, too afraid to do anything right and too much of a failure to stand on his own.
He could have dissipated, could have stepped into that weaponisation machine and ceased to be how he was. But he hadn't, narrowly, he hadn't, because there was something in him that held on. Some sliver of him was not a quitter, some desperate small part of who he was was a fighter. That was the main thing that amity had taught him, that was the main lesson of his time at school. Scaring was part of him, part of his fear, it came naturally, pride, confidence and self worth did not.
But he was worthy. He knew it now, he might doubt his value in many ways throughout his life, but he was worthy of existence. He had as much right as anything else to be part of this world. His parents would never win. He would win.
He would win.
It was nothing glorious. It was nothing grand and explosive, but the bloody, near-dead creature in the guardian's victorious hands squirmed and shifted, huge wings rent with the javelin's assaults on his natural form flew wide and Zar's hooves were brought up in a single, vicious kick.
There was a clank, then another as the helmet hit the floor, followed by a clattering rain of armour as it fell to pieces and he dropped on top of it. He lay there, on his back, out of breath and wavering dangerously on the brink of dissipation.
He'd made it, just barely.
And it felt appropriate.

He wished he had a bit more magic at his disposal and instead was glad he could at least have the speed on his side while the clanging suit of scraps was far slower - at least when moving. It's weapon on the other hand was fast and had no trouble moving between them to inflict as much pain as it could
There was a reason why this was chosen as the guardian of their final forms of freedom. Calder wondered how it was paid.
Well, as far as he knew, all metal things were full of gears and springs and things Barth knew more about. What Calder knew is that he tended to break these things and right now, he really wanted to break this thing!
He ran and went for another kick, the sound loud as a gong and making him wince.

"C-Calder, Zar, could you-" Barth said, slightly strained. His shirt was a bit open, and he was not physically or personally dealing with the armor at all. He looked back and up towards that paper.
This had the unintended effect of sending the knight in a sort of jolty uppish direction as well.

Calder summoned all his strength and charged, ready to tear off the helmet of the giant knight, but just as he jumped up to make a grab for the head, he managed to just hit the shoulder, cling, and was shaken off.
Thrown on the ground, Calder flopped tail over head and was left with his legs over himself before he rolled upright. Dazed, he staggered back to his feet.
