ThisEmptySoul I've read somewhere on the site that Gaia has no control over what ads are displayed. They get their ads from one ad company which then cycles through ads for various clients of theirs with not too much attention paid to what is "age appropriate" for the site it is going on. So Gaia has to tell them what ads specifically to take out of rotation because the ad company doesn't pay too much attention to what it is that is being advertised. Of course, someone has to see and report the ad before Gaia can tell them to take it off. I might be saying something around those lines. I haven't noticed tampon ads (and I'd like to remind everyone about much better option, the Mooncup). Advertisements aren't specially placed there by Gaia staff. I think the deal is to sell advertisement spots as EmptySoul says. There has to be some limits what kind of advertisements are shown. I think at USA it could lead to quite a trouble to feed the lawyers with non-PG rated ads. So keeping eyes open is good. Yet that could have been pulled through more... elegantly. Or how ever. They made the Venus thing better. And with more time for sure, better deal. And Gaia stays up and running. Those ad's that irk me are imdv (or something along that lines). Those are just pure 'come and make your avatar cyber with someone else's avatar' sites. Eiji... Me too. I do have some precautions to certain cultures and I'd like to see a bit are those really just myths from media or somewhat facts. etc.

Advertising Tampons even if they had the things for your Avatar. Would only be equally as obscene and irresponsible. As that picture of Milly Cyrus taking a shower that was posted here on Gaia. Its bad enough that Gaia actually allowed "mature" content to be posted on this website. The average maturity of the users went down when that happened and that's a fact. Of coarse, there were already 18+ users here on Gaia before that. Openly carrying on such conversation and posting threads with semi-vulgar content. That were already part of that less mature batch of users. That was actually the second time the rules were lessened on this website. Both times leading to a less mature average user base.

Why are tampons obscene though (I think that's the point you're making, forgive me if I've misunderstood)? As other posters have noted, any girl on this site ought to be at least 13 and therefore highly likely to have more than a passing understanding of the product.
Granted, other products are available, but presumably their makers haven't done an exclusive advertising deal with Gaia. I personally would see it as no different to advertising Gilette (whether guys or gals' razors, for that matter), since the need to shave is a similar fact of life.

Appropriate or not, I'd like to dispell the myth that gaia doesn't know about the tampon adds. They are not from the add company, gaia has a direct contract with tampax.
Go here: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/life-issues/tampax-take-the-poll-outsmart-mother-nature/t.52092033/
If you take the pole (open only to females) you get a cute white summer dress. If you take the quiz on the tampax profile (open to all) you get 200g.

I am not for or against the Tampax ads... but being that this is PG13 and there are young boys on here too.... I think more of their embarrassment. I think it is not really fair to them.
Now, on the opening page it is telling people to be a badass... that to me is a bit more inappropriate.

well if it embarasses enough young boys to keep them out of womens pants for a little while longer im all for it. but yeah... why not something towards both genders? i mean first the venus razor, and now the tampax... what the heck is the male population going to get? turn your head and cough? rolleyes
sorry partially inappropriate i know, but im a tad cynical... but seriously, why not degree? at least then it could be used by both. or maybe even just a gillet division for male and female?
/rant
sorry about that just had to vent a bit.

No one knew at the time that tampax had a contract with Gaia. Everyone knows by now that they are in full cooperation.. the only reason there was a "myth" floating about is because those posts were -before- the things you mentioned were implemented.

At the very least I can say as one person that did mention Gaia had "no control over the ads" that I honestly was not aware of their agreement when I had said that. It was shortly after I had mentioned it that the poll and quiz had attention brought to them. {From what I'm told, those with female avatars got some sort of special announcement that directed them those.}
Before that, it was not widely known that those things existed.

In the grand tradition of my disturbing avatars, I decided to make another one.
Please look up Tampax Failure for results.

To be honest, I place a blind eye to advertisements. I never see them because I don't look at them. That's just me though.
I don't see anything wrong with tampons on Gaia, it's a bit responsible/profitable to get teens when they are young to buy a particular product.
And for the person wondering about nationality, I'm American.
