Laila Izuka ....... Name: Laila Izuka Samples: http://www.lailaizuka.deviantart.comYears of experience: A couple of years, but I've really picked up drawing in the last year. What you want to learn/improve on: Poses and cell shading. I made a more detailed thread here that has what I mainly need help with :3 ....... I won't be back home until either next week, or the week after that. So I won't be able to post any art until then. But I do have a sketchbook with me, so I can practice poses. I think I can help. :> Since I was away for a long time, your mentoring session will be 8/2~9/12, if that's okay with you. ^^ You can go ahead and post a WIP or something, and comment on what you like/don't like/need help with, when you have the time. <3
@nightshade29: ^^; My advice might not be very useful at this point (I don't remember how I taught myself before intermediate level) but thank you for applying!
@c00ki3: I think you're already way above my level. xD
Anatomy comes with practice, I think. If you're a keen observer, just look at people walking on the street. You'll probably be able to pick up the nuts and bolts rather quickly if you just stare at human proportions. :3
Backgrounds - see any inspiring scenery lately? I think you'll be fine especially since you're doing traditional; if you spend a lot of time putting down the details, you'll get some amazing backgrounds done. I used to love backgrounding myself (and still do) but don't have the time anymore to put real effort into them. Also, if you try to make complete scenes, backgrounds tend to compliment the characters in it. I suggest looking at Shel-Yang's work for nice scene compositions. <333 (she's one of my idols <3)
Drapery - Again, details. Drawing in the folds with ink works better than trying to make the folds appear via shading/coloring. :>
Inking - I use a very thin pen tool (0.6) for my linearts. Of course, emphasizing certain points help flesh out the image. General tips re-posted below. <3
Quote: Here's part of a 10-pointer "tutorial" WIP that I'm writing on and off. (Below, most important point: Hair shape is determined by the lines moreso than the shading. See circled areas. :3) ![User Image](https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/blkmage/010-1.jpg) (Below, just some tips on making pretty lineart with depth. xD See circled area: darkening corners in some places for an effect.) ![User Image](https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/blkmage/009-1.jpg)
I'm honored you applied, though! Thank you! ;w;
@Slow As Christmas: I think you're also way above my skill level. xDD I'm sure you'll pick up SAI quickly (its paintbrush/watercolor blending is so epic--you'll be hooked heart ) and anatomy is something I'm a little iffy with myself. ^^; Thanks so much for applying, though! >w<
