Hell, sometimes my tradition demands I accept payment for such things. It completes the dynamic and severs unwanted entanglements.

it would make sense in a good number of traditions that hearken to Indo-European cultures, now that i think about it. give and take, with both sides being equal in importance.

Yep. That and really- who in their right mind would walk up to a farmer and say "Gee- I know you worked your a** off to make this, but it's part of nature, so it belongs to everyone. Gimmie."
