I know, right? gonk
I go on Rally alot.. and if I say my age, the kids are like, "Liar." Or I get the ones that go on and on about how I'm too old for gaia, and how I should get a life. The ones on Rally are really nasty, too. Every other word they type when they say these sort of things to me is an insulting swear. They've never called me a ***** though.
I usually say something like, "I'm sure most, if not all, of the Gaia staff is over 18. Is it wrong for them to be here, too?" and they shut up. 8D

No kidding! No life? I work 60 hours a week at a director at a large University. Gaia, for me, is a nice way to unwind and get a little levity in my life. Although, I think I'd rather be told I'm too old than have 13 year olds come up to my avatar and say "UR hott - wanna cyber?"
...creepy...

Madame_Fluffy So, my fellow geezers, I must ask... Do you ever come across the younger populace of this site, and upon learning your real age, you hear the following... 'OMG!!1WTF R OLD PPL DOING ON GAIA?!1! F*CKING *****!!! H4VE NO L1FE!!1 DEY SHULD B B@NNED!1!' I find this incredibly insulting, don't you? I mean, why is it so appauling to learn that there are adults on Gaia Online? And why do they automatically assume that these same adults have no lives of their own, or that they're *****? (just because some of these whipper snappers are on this site - disobeying the site rules by seeking a cyber sex partner - does not mean the older users are here for that purpose, as well). What are your thoughts on this, and how do you deal with such behavior? The nice thing about being old is.... well you lose your vision so you can't see the offensive behavior and you lose your hearing do you can't hear them either!

Ah yes I'm pretty sure that everyone here gets that a lot just like I have but, sadly there is really not much we can do about it since kids today have no respect for their elders. It really is a shame, I remember when I was a kid (26 btw) every time I used my very smart mouth I would get slapped clean across my face then came the thick leather belt. *shudders* Kids today really need to be diciplined like the good old days I don't understand why they get so frustrated when they see an adult here it's so pointless to waste time arguing with a kid that can barely reason at all after a long day at work just my opinion

Succubus_Qween anther thing that bothers me is now when they find out your age......they begin begging for items and gold
I get that alot -- one wanted my Coco Kitty and Superior form confused Then started asking me how much gold I actually had, I was like: wha o.O?
Also on the topic about the insults - I find it very annoying that they have low opinions about the older generation on gaia. I'm only 21 and yet they say that I should get a life and stuff, I have a job - they are either still at school or working in McDonalds, Burger King, or any other Fast Food resteraunt around. Personally I love hearing that the older generation is making good use of gaia, I have a variety of people on my friends list and encourage everyone to add me whether your 21 or 81 I dont mind =]
Good Friends are like the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

In the parental guideline link at the bottom of the screen says this: Quote: Who can join Gaia? Gaia is open to anyone 13 years of age and older. Obviously Gaia isn't meant just for kids, otherwise it would have said between the ages of 13-17. Obviously their target age is probably aimed more toward teens, but it's not geared to totally exclude us oldens. Besides, some of us may have created profiles way back in the day when we were still teens, back when it was gogaia, and not gaiaonline like it is now. *whips out her Gaia oldie walker* I just make my age known and clear in my profile and if they don't like it, well then they can buzz off. ^_~ Oh, and if Gaia wasn't somewhat aimed toward adults, then why do they advertise that they're hiring? Obviously they can't really hire anyone who's under the age of 18, child labor laws and all.

Mrs_Black_Bear Yes I have come across that anoyance unfortunately What are your thoughts on this, and how do you deal with such behavior? I think it has to do with a lack of good parenting since now days spanking your child is considered abuse, and it would also seem Christianity is banned in all aspects from schools and the general public which annoys me greatly I mean what about Freedom of religion? Another Problem is the Media, I think the Media also has alot to do with the attitudes of children and teens today, I mean look at what almost all teen movies are promoting and the music too, sex, violence and disrespect! The world has certainly declined and it makes me very sad, Though I hope to have children of my own and raise them to be respectfull of all people and well manored. I must agree with you all, and I fear that my friends and I must have been the ones to help fuel the fire, I was here when the site first opened and I was under 17, hating Adults as I thought I found a place to run from the world of the Adults, only to find out some were on here too, it pissed my friends and me off good. As for real life, Christianity is a ok thing in Private schools but it's still wrong in my book how it is taught at places, Freedom of Religion should be for everyone, but thanks to some of these parents and Private schools, the kids of today don't fight over who is Black and who is White in skin color, but instead fight because a kid following Christianity is taught that if another kid near them is like say Wiccan, then the kid should not play with the Wiccan even if they were best friends for years, instead they are taught to look down on these Wiccans and others as if they are better when most aren't, as well the Rudiness shown on this site is fine by me, I mean come on, most of the time you can't tell a thing they are saying and if they "$^#$@^#$%^&" you know it's a curse word and not able to hear it, there are kids I see all the time that shock me, Cursing to their own mother! The shame, I'd be hit in my youth if I talked to my mother that way!! I swear a kid and her mom were sitting with nothing to start a fight, the mom saw she forgot her drink which the child was sitting next to "Please pass me my soda" the kid looked to her "Get off ya lazy butt and get it ya stupid Slut, you D%^$ B*$^*@#!!" and it started a fight between them as the mom tried to stop the cursing, what is our world coming to with kids like this? sweatdrop redface crying

What gets to me to most is when they post things about how their parents have disowned them...and then go to tell the story of "blah blah...I called my mom a stupid f*n wh*re, I don't see what the big deal is, now I can't drive the car" and they just seem so whiney. I wouldn't even think of calling my mother that, I'd get beat. I'm only 22 and I still wouldn't even think of talking to my mother like that. Sometimes it just amazes me what they think a hard life is - they need a reality check.

I know the problem.
"Hey dad, can we go play catch?" "No son, I'm busy. Go play your new game or something."
"Hey mom, wanna play" "No, I'm busy. Go watch TV or something."
"Hey, parents, wanna--" "NO. We don't want to raise you. Go be raised by the media already and leave us to be incompetent. Do you want another excuse to not raise you or something? Get."
Sadly, my parents, as well as probably your parents, and most other parents of children nowadays, fail. Wanna do the right thing for our kids? I know I do. Maybe if I actually raise them, they won't turn out to be complete and total brats...

I think it has to do with a lack of good parenting since now days spanking your child is considered abuse, and it would also seem Christianity is banned in all aspects from schools and the general public which annoys me greatly I mean what about Freedom of religion? The world has certainly declined and it makes me very sad, Though I hope to have children of my own and raise them to be respectfull of all people and well manored. I think it has more to do with personal values and morality than a religious preference. I am not Christian but I do have a moral value code I try to pass down to my children which includes very restricted media. We don't even own a tv for that reason alone. I don't buy your "freedom of religion" argument though because in my experience most Christians only want their religion taught in schools. You can't call it freedom of religion unless they are teaching ALL religions in school. It is highly offensive to assume that all students come from a Christian background when that isn't the case. This is why private schools exist for parents to have the option of religion in school. My child goes to a private school with a spiritual component and a value system I can agree with for that very reason. I don't believe it is fair to impose that on public school however. I was refering to the the fact that Christian children and college kids can't even have after school Group get togethers where they can make friends and get together and talk about how God has influenced them, and we get critizized if they catch us giving thanks for our food before eating it at lunch when we are not imposing on others to do it, yet other relgions such as wica, can have thier groups and thier rituals after and during school and no one critizies them for doing their rituals or what not in public and for having a voice where as if we mention we are christian everyone automatically assumes we are bible thumpers. This is what angers me. I do think that you need to read the rest of what I wrote too, about parenting and the media, the religion thing was just a minority of what I think is draging the world down hill. Oh, I know you made some great points I agree with. I wasn't trying to pick on you. I just dislike the bias certain religions tend to have toward so called "freedom of religion". For instance, the only after school religious groups I heard of being banned were ones where on staff teachers were teaching creationism and calling it curriculum based. I just see it as a sneaky way to get around the rules. Then the kids who didn't participate in the program were penalized for it. I have zero problem with groups like FCA or other extracurricular activities where Christians get together and do things that are not rooted in changing school curriculum in their favor. If those are being eliminated then I'm sorry that is happening. I did spend most of my teenage years in wicca/paganism and I can tell you that I have never seen any groups catered for or around that. If anything I was called horrible names and all but burned at the bloody stake for bringing up such things, lol. Maybe things have changed or maybe some sort of Christian propaganda speaker/media is making it sound as though suddenly Pagans are running schools and putting Christian followers in torture chambers somewhere while chanting spells. blaugh Sorry I don't like it when people miss interpret or make assumtions about what I said, if your not clear on somthing I have typed please ask before typing =D my brain works faster than I can type or speak alot so thats why I am not always clear. Never heard of Teahcers teaching creationism 0.o missed that one, I was reffering to the FCA and other such groups as well as the one where Christians used to be able to got to school early, raise the flag and say a little prayer, they arn't bothering anyone and they arn't forcing anyone to join, though they may invite someone. There were a couple after school groups at my higschool for other religions that I heard about but since I never stayed after the school day ended I never got to confirm what I had heard. I used wica as an example because I couldnt think of a bigger non christian group at the time lol, I have more "pagan" friends irl than I do Christian ones haha

Zahmira I've never come across that, but then again, I'm not often venturing into forums where I would. That kind of abuse is reportable though, so I would just report them, smile, and go on my merry way. Is it? I just mock the s**t out of them until they leave me alone. These days not too many GDers would try that crap. I do I have one guy who calls me mother Teresa but I don't mind.

Madame_Fluffy Devilish Zukin Madame_Fluffy Devilish Zukin It's very insulting, considering that a lot of us "Older People" are the ones that are donating to the site to keep it even running. x__X But to many of the younger generation, that common fact goes unnoticed by them. Hell, the concept of donations needed to keep the site running is completely foreign to them. As far as they're concerned - Gaia is for kids only and no one over the age of 17 should be on this site. You know kids, they'll make fun of anything to make them feel better about the new outcropping of acne on their back. :3True, true. One thing that never changes about kids - flinging insults is just a way of making themselves feel better. I don't know who Kids think all old people are fools, and the geezers know kids are.
