I try to name some of my pokémon.
But I usually don't name them at all unless I think of a perfect name.

I name most of my pokemon after characters frum movies or manga i like. c:

I do the same thing for most of mine. Though sometimes I invent new words or names altogether by meshing syllables together. Like when I nicknamed my Dialga "Hourvast" (hourglass+vast). And I nicknamed my Giratina "Thanatos", the greek personification of death. Lastly, my favorite, I nicknamed my Shaymin Silence, after the protagonist in a book series I'm writing.

@ Tavonerator
Nice name Dialga.

Since i got the Rom of SS, i named everyone pokemon that i caught. Since it's in Japanese, it only allows only 5 characters. Feraligatr is "Munch", Piloswine "Puck" (from Swinub), and a now-training Male Gardevoir "Dress".

I usually nickname Pokemon if they're the second one of that species that I have. I wish I was better at naming them, though. I've seen some really cool names when battling and on the GTS, but I've seem some boring ones too. My sister gives her Pokemon kinda annoying names. Like her Chimchar, that she named Rahcmihc (Chimchar backwards) She can't even pronounce it.....

One of my favorite Pokemon on Sapphire version is my Plusle, who was the first egg I ever hatched, so, thinking I'd never use it, I named him Baby Plus. But I grew attatched to it, and now it's a perminant member of my team. Sometimes my friends give me weird looks, because they expect a Pokemon with the name "baby" to be cute and kinda weak......

You know, some pokemon actually got their names from words spelled backwards. Like Arbok (Kobra=cobra deliberately mispelled) and Ekans (snake). Sounds like the name Rahcmihc would be pronounced, Rock-mic. Just my suggestion.

@Krishnath: That naming a pokemon afet another pokemon thing isn't uncommon. I saw a munchlax named manaphy and deoxys on gts named some other pokemon but I forgot which one. They actually banned pokemon nicknamed like that from the last world championships.

I always, always, always name my pokemon.
They're usually the first name that I feel the pokemon looks like. One of my favourite is my Empoleon which I named Titus, and the Moltres I had in FireRed which I named Sunny Boot (it was my little sister's idea, but I grew to love the name Sunny Boot).

When I first started playing pokemon as a kid I wouldn't name them... but now that I'm older I try to name them after mythical gods, food, or funny words.

I always nickname my Poke'mon.
That way it feels like they're actually my own, and not the just another Hitmontop or Swampert or something.

The main pokemon I plan on using I give nick names, tried sticking to a theme but meh, I found it fun naming them a bit random names, which my friend thinks is cruel as she thinks I give them horrible names sweatdrop

*huggles shiny umberon* Don't worry AK-47 crying Your name is just perfect!

If I want to make a funny picture, I'll name them, but I prefer not to.
