The Sex Pistols--Never mind the bollocks.

Even the title of the album has a uniquely British word in it!

the pistols. oh yeah. very much respect goes to them heart

the movie "SLC Punk" mentions them in a pretty important arguement.
xd

just watch it.

Sorry, Franz Ferdinand are boring as hell neutral .

Even if they didn't completely rule, which they do, is it not enough that they are taking America by storm and overshadowing their best musicians?

I think so, then add to that their ultimate coolness. Well. Excellent!

franz ferdinand did make a good album. i have it.

although, i wouldn't go so far as to say 'taking america by storm.'

we're too stupid to let that happen for more than about a couple weeks, which i think it was. our media moves too fast onto crappier bands for anything good to stay up there.

our best musicians? meh, we have a couple i suppose. but by now they've all gotten icky already. mainstream-wise anyway. the new mainstreem rock isn't that great, and the old bands new stuff isn't either. everyones writing about how shitty our country is, or how shitty bush is. it's quite boring.

alot have turned to hip-hop's music with america's alternative main music subject of sex and bling.

i like a few of the british artists mentioned, such as Muse, and of COURSE The Beatles. they almost go without saying!

but, isn't northern ireland a part of briton? in that case i'd have to say flogging molly.

Muse are ******** awesome. I went to go see them live, and when I got back I wanted to throw their album away because it just doesn't do them justice.

I like everything along the lines of coldplay, keane, and all that lot too.

I won't stick to a particular genre of music, I like songs for what they bloody are, not which genre they fit into and which stereotype they make you. :3

Firstly, I love you for making this thread. xd

Secondly, I'd like to say that I love Muse with a burning passion above all other music groups, ever.

And why are the British so consistently good at making great songs?
I don't know. But maybe it's best not to question it. Hmmm.

something to do with a bardic legacy?

lol... they sound a bit like coldplay, but they have a style all their own as well^^ That's what I like about them!

Keane have some good songs - bedshaped, for instance, but only because it has bits that sound like radiohead.

Muse are ******** gods live. Saw 'em in exeter last year, homecoming gig. Bring a new ******** meaning to the phrase 'performance artist'.

Radiohead. I'm not going to start on that one.

Green day - hang on, aren't they american? Their new album sounds as if it's comprised of about three songs that have been repeated with slight variations to fill a CD. No offence or anything.

Oh, and Bloc Party are very good, too.
And the libertines (before ol' petey left).
And... um... not the zutons. They have a saxophone. XP

Ok, I agree with thye first two, but most Oasis is simply uninventive crap, and Coldplay are like Radiohead were eight years ago only less good. Ah...Radiohead... 3nodding
I think U2 deserve some kind of a mention, even thoughy I don't really go in for their style. And the Stones (Rolling ones) deserve an extra special ubermention. And then of course there's Muse.
The only things in music Britain appears to have really sucked at is Classical music, except for about two composers (Britten and Holst, I can't stand most Elgar), although admittedly British classical music is slightly better than America. The other thing is Jazz. Decent Jazz just doesn't seem to exist outside of America. There is some Scandinavian stuff, but it's all kind of sub-Bill Evans.
domokun Anyway, there are my eclectic views on British music. I think generally speaking we're a lot more notable in music than we used to be. Have fun.
