Well he was a tennis jr champion don't you think he would learn to hold the racket right? You can't hold a tennis racket with only your figers and win, and L hates to lose.

Morover, L isn't interested in anything other than his current goal. He will do anything to win with it. He can't get destracted. Not that he Is simply determined not to get destracted. He can't. He simply can't bring himself to seperate his thoughs from his goal. He probably doesen't even realize this. He is a working machine and will not stop. In the game of chess, the one who talks to his aponent usually loses.

What I can't figure out is why L can read English.

Well, he he did spent a few years in England. Also the orphanage which is producing his heirs is also in England.

Last time I checked, people tend to speak English in England. razz



Another thing, as a detective, he works on a global scale.

English is one of the most widely spoken languages. (I believe Ryuk actually mentions this fact in manga/anime.)

It'd be stupid for him to not know English.

And a lot of Japanese people know English. It's a required subject from at least 7th grade....
