Janet nodded and finished the drive in silence. When they got to the house, she left Utsuki be to do whatever he wanted.

Utsuki walked into the house and spent the rest of the day in the room he stayed in. Often, he would stare out the window and pray to his mom, if she could hear him, to help find some way to make things better.

It was almost three weeks after their last visit to the jail, a month after their first visit, before Janet knocked on Utsuki's door. "Utsuki, please come out today," she asked, voice quiet.

"I still need some time alone," Utsuki replied, modifying his old camera at the moment. "I'll come out another time."

Janet nodded. "The public school's winter break ends in a few days. Your lessons will begin as normal when theirs does," she warned but left him be after that.

"I'll keep that in mind," Utsuki replied, still working on the camera. He wondered if maybe he should head to the jail and visit Kenichi again. It might not be a bad idea.

Janet nodded and closed the door gently with a sigh.

In his cell, Kenichi banged on the bars. "Hey, guard. I've been here a month. What happened to "you get one phone call" huh," he shouted, bored and trying to cause trouble.

Utsuki began testing his camera on the scenery outside, glad when he saw that the camera still worked. It would have been terrible if it broke. After all, mom used to use it when she was still alive.

Janet answered the phone about an hour later. "Hello?"

"Hey, Tutor lady. It's Kenichi. Lemme speak to Utsuki."

Janet, appalled by Kenichi's manners, agreed nonetheless, switching to the portable phone and bringing it upstairs to Utsuki. "It's Kenichi."

Utsuki's eyes brightened a little as he received the phone, putting it near his ear. "Hello? Kenichi?" he said, waiting for an answer. He couldn't help feeling relieved that Kenichi was still in the jail and not somewhere worse.

"Hey, kid. What do you sound so happy about? I'm sitting in a stinking jail cell remember? Damn guards never gave me my phone call until I bugged the hell out of them for it."

"I'm just glad you're still alive. It's okay for me to worried about you, right?"

Kenichi gave a short, soft laugh. "Whatever, kid. Miss you," he admitted reluctantly. "It sound surprising, but it's actually pretty boring in jail."

"Does it make you regret ever living a life of crime?" Utsuki asked in a joking manner. Honestly, it wouldn't be a surprise if it did make Kenichi regret being a criminal.

Kenichi snorted. "No. No, it does not. It just makes me wish even more than ever I hadn't gone back to my old man's place."
