NEW question!

The NextGen crew's spacesuits (environmental suits) were not SELF-SEALING.
(Which would have been smart.)

Worf wore one on a spacewalk, and a Borg cut a hole in his suit.
How did Worf seal the breach?

He used a severed arm/hand from one of the borgs that had a cable long enough to tie it around his suit.

CORRECT!

Quote:

As good as the image was for a film, I'm not sure that would have actually worked. To seal the suit it would have needed to be so tight as to not let air pass through it, but a tourniquet would have meant squeezing his limb so much that would have not only prevent air from passing through it would have also cut his blood circulation.

ALSO CORRECT!
Obviously, they were going for a laugh, and/or following the
"Rule of Cool" (it works if it looks cool.)
I like the example of "lateral thinking" in problem solving, but if it wasn't
a movie, it wouldn't have worked.

Oh, yes, as an example of lateral thinking it's good (would have been great if it was something cool but that actually worked).

And as an image of "wounded hero" the thing floating by his side gave the "Assimilate This!" moment the look of a great action scene. smile

NEW QUESTION!

This is going to take some thinking.

A group of Borg are approaching your position. You're unarmed, but have
barricaded yourself in with an industrial replicator. With the safeties off,
you can make any kind of weapon (any weapon available as of the end
of Deep Space 9.)

What kind of weapons are you going to have the replicator make? Why?

Does this have a particular answer you're looking for that has to do with the series? Or can I come up with any random idea of mine?

Limit yourself to any weapon that can be physically lifted and carried by
humans without any vehicle or beast of burden.
Limit yourself to weapons that have appeared in either TOS, TNG, DS9
or the movies.

A "correct" answer doesn't require really obscure information- but it
will take some analysis and conclusions on your own part.

Well, I can't remember all the names of the weapons. So the first thing I would get would be a phaser rifle because that's the most powerful and I can cut down a few before they adapt.

Ok, I'll try.

I'd replicate a very big amount of acid to throw at them. It's corrosive enough to dissolve the biological tissue. And borgs without the biological part are just half constructed machines.

That would work for a few, or as few as one, depending on how fast they adapt.

For reasons which escape me, the idea of a phaser that can be set to change
nutation and frequency randomly between shots never occurred to
Starfleet techs anticipating fighting the Borg.

*blink blink*
Yes, that would be effective against up to large numbers of them,
depending on the delivery mechanism.

That's not the answer I was expecting, which, I think, would be more efficient
to wield as a weapon. (Which does not mean your answer was wrong.)
I'll wait just a little longer before answering, since I want to give everyone
a shot at it.

NEW question!

Hawaiian shirts (officially, aloha shirts) are worn by tourists on vacation.

At least 3 officers wore them on Star Trek television at different points.
Name any ONE of them.

With all the resourceful engineers Starfleet has I'm surprised no one thought of that. Should be very handy even if it's not very effective in the long run (assuming borgs would eventually adapt to that too).

Considering Data made a makeshift adaptive phaser early in NextGen's run,
it's rather sad that the writers never accounted for this sort of thing.

Good point.
Do alien weapons count? Cause then I'd replicate a Romulan phaser. Then a Klingon...uh....phaser? when they adapted to that.

Q was never made an officer,
not even a field-ensign.
Wesley Crusher out-ranked him when Q was on the Enterprise.
