Some sample stat builds I guess.
Agumon Vaccine-type Reptile Digimon Fire Element HP: 1500 MP: 1000 Attack: 450 Defense: 300 Intelligence: 400 Speed: 300 Size/Weight: 200 kB (haven't quite decided what measurements to use for size/weight though I like the idea of using computer memory units)
Greymon Vaccine-type Dinosaur Digimon Fire Element HP: 2800 MP: 2000 Attack: 700 Defense: 850 Intelligence: 600 Speed: 500 Size/Weight: 450 kB
Tyrannomon Data-type Dinosaur Digimon Fire Element HP: 2100 MP: 2000 Attack: 700 Defense: 500 Intelligence: 650 Speed: 800 Size/Weight: 420 kB
There's not much to compare them to aside from each other. Agumon is, I imagine, fairly balanced and regular as far as rookies go. Tyrannomon is similar, though he has an emphasis on Speed and Intelligence, whereas Greymon is bigger and much tankier (I remember in DW1, Greymon had a ton of HP and stuff). Their techniques would be fairly similar as far as offense goes, though I imagine Greymon would be more of a straightforward attacker and Tyrannomon might have some variety between offense, defense, and support.

Sounds good in theory, but you will need some complex algorithims.

Oh yeah, I forgot to address families. surprised To me, the family = the background on the card = habitat. I'd focus on the main habitats, like Nature Spirits (grassland/forest), Deep Savers (ocean/lake), Wind Guardians (sky/clouds/mountains), Metal Empire (urban/mechanical, etc), and Unknown (seems sort of like a barren, deserty, badlands area). Nightmare Soldiers are complicated... do they just reside in a spooky area? Or is it the supposed 'Dark Area', which seems to equate to the underworld (but is never really properly explained)?
And that would basically just determine the type of environment that Digimon are found in. Those would be all I really address; maybe Virus Busters and stuff like that are organizations or something, but for now I pay them no heed.

Algorithms? What makes you say that?
Species would be variable, it'd basically just be what's in their dictionary entry or what's on the card.
Of elements, I had teh following in mind: - Fire - Ice - Lightning - Water - Earth - Metal - Light - Dark - Poison - Wood (?) (Dunno if this should be separate, or split between Poison and Earth.)
And I think that pretty much encompasses everything within the scope of Digimon without being too complicated (possibly excepting Wood).

If you look at how to calculate damage with pokemon, its pretty complex problems and stuff

I am not sure about the families. I think Dark area are digimon mutated by other digimon, like the ones Arkadiamon mutated. Soldiers are most other virus types. I suppose. Im not sure, your the researcher I figured you would.

As far as wood goes, there are only like 4 digimon wood based.

For funzies, some more stat builds. Note that I'm basically making these up as I go, LOL; the only real thing I had beforehand was loose stat build ideas.
Kabuterimon Vaccine-type Insectoid Digimon Lightning Element HP: 2500 MP: 2000 Attack: 650 Defense: 750 Intelligence: 500 Speed: 600 Size/Weight: 400 kB
Kuwagamon Virus-type Insectoid Digimon Earth Element ((I thought Earth because he basically just uses physical attacks, but actual earth and rock is a separate thing too. Dunno what else it would be, LOL... wind maybe?)) HP: 2400 MP: 2200 Attack: 800 Defense: 500 Intelligence: 500 Speed: 650 Size/Weight: 380 kB
Flymon Virus-type Insectoid Digimon Poison Element HP: 2600 MP: 1800 Attack: 800 Defense: 700 Intelligence: 360 Speed: 700 Size/Weight: 440 kB
At this point I dunno if I'm building them too drastic or not drastic enough or whatever. But anyway, hopefully this illustrates the difference that I sort of see explained by Bandai between these Digimon.
First is Kabuterimon, who's fairly balanced and a little on the tanky side. Next is Kuwagamon, who's sort of weak on defense, but wicked on the offense with high MP and Attack. Then is Flymon, who is unusally dim-witted, but very tough in all other regards-- such that his shortcoming in his intelligence and consequent disobedience are alleviated somewhat by his raw power when acting on his own. I took the most liberties with Flymon, but Kabuterimon and Kuwagamon are pretty heavily-emphasized by official sources as being respectively defensive and offensive, so I feel it makes sense.

Zadok the 28th I am not sure about the families. I think Dark area are digimon mutated by other digimon, like the ones Arkadiamon mutated. Soldiers are most other virus types. I suppose. Im not sure, your the researcher I figured you would. There are also relatively benevolent, virtuous, or otherwise friendly mons in the Nightmare Soldiers, such as Garurumon, Apemon, and Wizardmon. As such, I was thinking that maybe the Nightmare Soldiers might be the only group of the main ones without a REAL environment, and that they might be dispersed among the others. Or, maybe they have like a twilight zone of neverending night in the Digital World or something, that would simply work too. (in fact, I like that idea.)
