♪♫ I LOVE YAOI!
...of mangas no one cares about. emo
Like Hikaru x Akira from Hikaru no go. Or Doumeki x Watanuki. Or Sasuke x Naruto for the lulz. Or Satoshi x Daisuke. or Natsume x Natori/Tanuma/Madara/Hinoe/Taki (Although I wouldn't care if it actually happened or not)
Yuri is awesome too. x3. As long as I don't have to see anything past them kissing innocently with clothes on.
Like Sakura x Ino from Naruto. Um, Tomoyo x Sakura from CCS, which while sweet, I still vote for Syaoran to win. Like... huh. I don't really know a lot of mangas with yuri subtext. I guess I never really paid much attention to it. And a lot of the mangas I read have mostly guys in them, whereas the girls aren't as fleshed out, or they are but there's very few girls. Because they're shounen mags. Or one guy as the main character and lots of creatures. Or some actually end up with all the girls as love interests, in which case it's difficult to find subtext between them. stuck Shoujo mags while sweet, are sometimes boring if repetitive. And I write off most "yuri" moments as best friend moments.
Yuri mangas is adorable;; but I'm always a little afraid to try and look at those mangas for the reason that I have been eye-scarred before by ecchi. And I really wouldn't want to see ecchi. Story goes: innocently clicked on a manga I'm like, okay, it's ecchi, but a lot of good mangas are ecchi too. Maybe I can stand it and ignore it this time...
*opens manga*
*reads*
*disappointed Neuroface* (from Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro- his face when Yako came to the wrong conclusion.)
Story goes: was looking for Naruto fancomics. Stumbled upon doujinishi.. Attempted to find the clean, non romantic ones... Should have known better... Thought it was a comedy clean one--- turned out to be Sakura x Ino porn....
Well, in this one I wasn't disgusted, I was already too jaded. I was extremely amused. I think I couldn't stop laughing for the longest time, their bodies were so ridiculously disproportionate. It was actually quite hilarious.
Anyway, that's why I'm kind of scared of Yuri mangas. Cuz I'm not sure if yuri is just a sweet romance between two girls, or if it's ecchi/porn.
About yaoi/yuri moments: the best way to figure it out is ask yourself (if straight) "would you do that with your best friend? Would that happen with your best friend?" If the answer is yes, it's a friendship moment, NOT a romantic moment. Example: Watanuki gave up his eye for Doumeki's eye. Doumeki gave Watanuki his eye. Most of the fandom says this is a romantic moment, I disagree. It's a moment of pure friendship and loyalty.
If my best friend lost her eye because of me, and there was a way to bring back her eye, I'd do it, due to a strong sense of guilt. If my best friend was on a team (she's not, but if) and was the ace of that team and everything depended on her, and she lost her eye due to my carelessness, and if I could somehow bring back her eye, at the cost of my own, and I felt I had no worth, I'd do it, since it was completely my fault and she'd need the eye much more than me, she'd depend on it. Especially if I was the kind of person who felt I had no worth and sacrificed things like that the way Watanuki is. Likewise, if I lost my eye due to a stupid accident, and my friend decided she would give up her eye for me I would be extremely mad at her idioticness. And I would give up half my eye so she can see.
So, friendship. Not romantic love.
If the answer is no, then it is a romantic moment.
For example: Hikaru and Akira think about each other all the time [they're obsessed with each other, seriously] (must be at least once a chapter), have no idea what they are, and say in actual text that it's not quite pure rivalry and it's not quite pure friendship.
While I adore my best friend, I do not think about her all the time. -_-. That's just weird. Unless you're friends turned enemies and guilt is haunting you or something. On the other hand I have not had a rival, so I do not know if it is natural to think about your rival all the time, but I believe that if I found a person equal to me in something and who would debate with me about it, be equal and oppose me in this skill, I probably would enjoy the challenge, and think about it, but purely in a rival kind of way, or a rival/friend kind of way, not some kind of undefined strange thing. And probably not be obsessed with them. ♫ ♪

There are some fans who use yuri for porn and shoujo-ai for everything else, but generally yuri is just used for anything from subtext to Story A to porn.
If you're looking for certain types of yuri (or series with subtext), feel free to ask. smile
