Well the art has to be at least decent to look at, but if the story is really good, it won't matter too much after a while

Definitely both.

I mean, I'm pretty superficial when I'm firs looking over the book because there are some styles of art that just irritate my eyes... for example some of the macho-macho strange looking art like in this one anime that I had started to watch but I never got past the intro song or newbie looking art. XD I like for the author to have at least a little bit of flare to their artwork to make the story flow better. Yukiru Sugisaki is my heroine when it comes to good artwork, she really is.

After I look for some sembalance of acceptable art, then I scan for the story because I refuse to read duds. They aren't worth my time and they bore me.

A good example of an awesome story for me is Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto because everything is so developed that it seems natural. The character development (not to mention their personalities in general) are very humanistic and none of the characters are "perfect", they all have very real flaws in their personalities. The plot is very intricate and it keeps the reader reading and hooked because there are so many questions left unanswered (for example, who is Uchiha Madara? What made him so special? And what about Uchiha Shisui? Was there something important about his character at all?--and can you tell that I'm a big fan of the Uchiha clan? LOL).

So yeah, final answer: Both are very important to me in choosing a book.

(And I love plot--I live on plot. I favor WIPs over PWPs because there's a purpose for the WIPs to be there--to convey something more than pointless smut, whereas PWPs are, for the most part, just a quick easy way to get two boys in bed together.)

Teoretically both, but... yeah. Fanarts. Fanworks in general. I'm pretty often biased by how fanworks look like, and that's mostly what my sympathy towards some series depends on.
I don't consider story THAT important. If I'm reading manga, I'm doing it to look at some nice artwork, if I wanted to read something with uber-cool plot I would simply read a book.
But hmph, it's not like I like manga with shitty story

Both are extremely important in my opinion. However, if the art sucks I have a feeling I wouldn't read it. If the story sucks I think I'd treat it just as an art book biggrin .

Art. All the way. I don't care how good the story is. If the art is ugly I won't read it.

The only exception is Kizuna:Bonds of Love. I don't much care for the art at all but the story is so wonderful.

Bad art drives me insane, but if the story is bad, then I can only enjoy the yaoi scenes and I think that is it very important to have both and if it is like the art that I have seen by Yaoi Press (usa) then I won't even get to enjoy anything out that book. Whats the point of having a good story with bad art or bad story with good art?

You can't have one with out the other. But I think Story is much more important to me than art but I prefer to have both if possible.

Sense I'm a writer I would have to say the writing due to nature, but who can pass up a good piece of art! heart xp

Both for me.
Plot because I'm a writer and I care about that and art since I love seeing yaoi fanart, doujins and the such.

I favor the stories over the art, actually. I guess I just like picturing it for myself whee

Art is more important, but then there's the story. So I guess you can't have one without the other.
