and_solo_said How come the Scots get their own damn song but we don't?
And (yes, I'm starting to rant) The Scottish parliament voted against top up fees in Scotland, but without the Scottish vote they wouldn't have been introduced in England.
ONE PARLIAMENT OR 4 GOD-DAMNED PARLIAMENTS! MAKE UP YOUR MIND!
*realises he is shouting at a system of government*
ahem, yes.
We should have Scotland the brave as the British national anthem annd have nto sub-divisions. I just like that song. Well the English used Scotland as a test-rat for the poll tax

Well, they lost the results for the 14th century test, and it needed to be repeated in the same conditions...

Okay, you know what, they really do need to update the national anthem and bring it in line with the younger generation. It'll help instill patriotism in them at a young age as well as the willingness, even desire, to die for their country, and all that good stuff. This is what I propose:
Superman Save the Queen.
Am I right? Am I right?

honsou3 I know the Scottish national anthem the flower of Scotland, and did you know that rule Britania was written by two Scots? There is no such thing as the 'Scottish national anthem'. There exists only one national anthem and that is God save the Queen. It is the national anthem of the UK. full stop. stare

And if you asked me what the anthem was thats what I'd say. I'm not against Remember You're A Womble either but I don't think that would be popular choice. Scots Wha Hae is a bit too depressing. Welcome to Scotland, the best small country in the world

Welcome to Scotland, the best small country in the worldI really don't like God Save the Queen as an anthem. It's like saying to the world 'The most important, song-worthy thing about our country is the welfare of our Queen (who does bugger all).' And the odd verse about crushing rebellious Scots. Scots Wha Hae's a good one for shout-singing *grin* I think Flower of Scotland's the best though. More cheery. A Man's A Man For A' That is alright, just depressing again. Scotland the Brave annoys the hell out of me. Just brings to mind people trying - and failing - to do the Highland fling.

Tsamikayu It's like saying to the world 'The most important, song-worthy thing about our country is the welfare of our Queen (who does bugger all *).' That duelling thread hasn't been used for a very long time..

Not at sports matches, naturally, because they need to be distinct from the other British nations but it is sung in other contexts.
It's not just the English national anthem.

I quite like the Queen. Shes cool. And I'd sing it. Flower of Scotland is a better song though.
Anyway, we all know that since the Queens ancestor was King of Scotland before becoming King of England shes really the Scotish queen who took over England. *ducks*
