X.rainbowflavoredpride.X I've also noticed that some Yaoi-fangirls WON'T read a manga that is straight. Sure, I understand personal taste and all that other stuff, but there ARE really good titles out there; Yaoi or not. ...You serious? Dx Urgh. I think thats pushing it. I mean i've enjoyed yaoi for quite sometime and welcome new people in it, but i've seen a few who seem to just "like" it because it's popular. And by "like" I mean acting like they do so people will think highly of them somehow. o.O I really don't get what goes on in some peoples minds but, feh. Thats still outrageous. They won't read it inless it's yaoi... Geez, what has the world come to. -_- With so many beautiful straight series out there too. *sigh* I personaly like yaoi (and the less graphic, shonen-ai), yuri (and shojo-ai) along with normal straight manga. I have also met straight people like myself that like both, so it's only those homophobes out there that need sense knocked into them. We should get Agito to go after them.... Yep, that will work.

At my school, there's a lot of close-minded people who have never heard of anime and manga (GASP! eek ), so the issue raised in this thread is not really a problem for me IRL. BUt I'm so sick of seeing horrible fangirlism, and the way some people think it's cute. Now. I think it's ok to have a bit of "HOMG, 'tis teh sexi GAWD Sephrioth!" but there's a difference between that and "OMFG i WAnT To RaPE InUyAsHa AnD ClOuD In RaPiD SuCsSeSiOn!!!!!!!!1!!!11!!!!!one!!!!!!"
*ahem* I am done. sweatdrop

lurkindarkness Iras - Male Love Train
There are probably 4 types of slash/yaoi fans in this world.
1) The kind that actually likes it, normally the kind that is open-minded about other things (het, "real" gay people, yuri).
2) The kind that is really just anti-"the system"/US Government/Bush/their parents/teachers and does it mostly to spite it.
3) The kind that will like anything if it has potential.
4) The kind that is just experimenting...
I have to say im a miX of numbers 1 and 3. xp I'm definatly open minded about all pairings and though im not that into het, but there are some parings i adore that are straight. Im also the type of person that will try out any new pairing before deciding weather i like it or not! Its good to find weather pairings have potential. For example I'm obsessed with the HavocxAl pairing from FMA right now XD

I think a lot of people are jumping on the bandwagon without actually getting to know what they're getting into. Just from browsing this guild, I find that a lot of people don't know what yaoi is! They don't know what it's target audience or intent is. They've watched Loveless and go "OMG! I love yaoi!" But Loveless isn't even yaoi! So yes, I do think that yaoi is becoming a bit much. There's a lot of idiots out there who are claiming to be fans when they're really not. Basically, I feel that yaoi is being invaded by posers! It's really crazy and annoying!
These same yaoi posers are most likely the ones who are giving you flack about shoujo ai. These are mostly kids who have no dealings with the great wide world. Yaoi is "OMG so HOT!" to them, but seeing as most of them are girls, yuri makes them uncomfortable. Because they're girls, yuri confronts them with sexuality. Whereas yaoi is a distant fantasy, yuri is in your face reality. Girls actually like other girls. They're just not ready for the concept. They're not really ready for yaoi or yuri, in my opinion. These new "fans" need to mature a little before claiming to be something they're not.

I'll have to agree with one thing, a ton of people seem to be hopping into the whole thing. Some may not be though, you never know. With Yaoi at first I wasn't so sure about it, mostly from embarrassment of what my parents would say if they ever read the fanfiction and stuff. But after I accepted the fact that I enjoyed writting about guys being together. I started to look at my beliefs. For one, girls with girls is okay, I don't mind it, I actually became cold and distant towards customers at my work over it. I remember that day because the two girls who kissed were a couple lanes down. I was so ticked off and ashamed of the customers in my lane. I have a good number of friends that are ######## or bi and I find I get along just fine with them. I don't mind the fluff n' stuff either. And I don't mind het stuff, because I'm hetero myself.

LadyNox iwanttobeasleep Once again: Elitists. Yaoi doesn't make you a good person, and you don't have to be a good person to enjoy it. It's a genre. Saying that they aren't the right type of fan or they aren't what you would expect is like all those teenyboppers who get mad when their favorite band hits it big because they aren't in a special club anymore. Yaoi is bound to attract fans of all types, and they're welcome to like or dislike whatever they want. I personally don't like het and I don't like shoujo ai much either, despite being a lesbian. Does this mean I am a bad fan or a bad person? Does it mean I am close-minded? No, it means I have personal preferences. I don't think it's about elitism. I think it's about attitude. A lot of yaoi fans act like there is nothing better and woe to those who disagree. I think that the greatest anime ever created was Neon Genesis Evangelion. I'm sure not everyone here agrees with me, but the difference is that I don't freak out and tell people that they're ignorant and wrong for disagreeing with me. To each their own right? That's the crux of matter. Attitude and lack of respect. A lot of yaoi fangirls treat het, shoujo ai, and even non-anime slash like it's gross and horrible for existing. Considering we are in a fandom that carries a belief that is despised by a huge portion of the world, you'd think yaoi fangirls wouldn't act in the same intolerant, oppressive manner. So, for example, if they were respectuful, in a thread talking about slash in Western TV shows, you wouldn't find someone posting something like "real boys are icky" just like you won't find me in a Gravitation thread going "Gravi sux". I totally agree. I wish I could add something, but that's pretty much how I feel. "To each their own..." All we can do is like what we like, and accept that same justice of others.

Meh, I'm just in it for the pretty boys and the chemistry. I like het too, just as much as yaoi. Yuri ain't my cup of tea, but I have nothing against it. Probably because I've never read any.

Eh, depends on the gender really. Most guys I talk to have no trouble with shoujo-ai and most girls I talk to are more of yaoi fans. Still, the fact that yaoi has grown in popularity has some downfalls to it. Such as 'yaoi that should not exist' and the rabid fangirls themselves sometime.
Also, for some reason people think they are superior just because they like certain yaoi pairings and they go and insult those who like heterosexual couples. Then they talk about gay rights and how people shouldn't insult yaoi. Hypocritical much? People can like shoujo-ai, het and real couples just as well...
Finally, there are those who simply like certain series for the yaoi pairings. Bleh. Just bleh.
Personally, I have no trouble with the mentions of yuri, het, etc. I usually like couples a bit more for the personalities rather than the sex itself. Although that is a bonus.
Of course, seeing as I was and sometimes still am like that at some points, I'm also a hypocrite.

I'm relatively new to this, I guess you would say, but I have not yet encountered anyone who has called me a horrible newb fangirl. I honestly did get into this without really knowing about it's popularity because when I started out, it was a real unanimated movie I was slashing and that is not as vastly explored as anime is. But suddenly I give anime BL a shot and BAM! There's so much of it I'm blindsighted. There are things you tend to overlook when you're targeted mainly at Hetero stuff. Big glaring things. I'm not in this just for the ability to say I am and I can't fathom why anybody else would do that, but to each his own I guess.
