I don't hate it, and it's not what got me interested either. I first thought "shonen-ai" when I realized naruto and Sasuke from Naruto would be perfect for each other. I wondered if it were possible, and suddenly SHONEN-AI and yaoi leapt out at me...!

....oh yeah.... sweatdrop we're discussing GRAVITAION, right...?

The anime wasn't the best, but the manga was pretty good

I preferred the manga, or at least what I've read of it so far, to the anime, which I've seen all of. The music from the anime rocks, though. I'm getting my friend to burn me a CD.

But I'm not and shall never be a hater.

Ehhh.. I can't say that I *hate* gravitation... but it's sure as hell not one of my favorites. 8D;;

I mean, yeahokay, the anime and manga has its funny moments. o_o But to me, the whole anime went like this:

Shuichi: OMGGGG YUKI I LOOOVE YOOOU YAAAH I'M GAAAY~~ YAAAH I'MMA ROCK STAR 8DDDDDDD
Yuki: I HATE YOU. ]: I HAAAATE YOU ]: -sexesss- I HAAAAATE YOU D:
Shuichi: OMMMGGG YUKI BUT I LOOOVE YOU crying crying YOU DON'T LIKE ME BECAUSE I'M GAY, RIGHT?
Yuki: NOOO I LIKE YOU... BUT I HATE YOU... -kisses-
Shuichi: NOOO ONE LIKES ME BECAAAAUSE I'M GAAAAY D8

...now, repeat that over and over and over again, AND YOU'VE GOT GRAVITATION 8D;;;

I'm sure other people see it differently.. but gravitation got really old, really fast.. and now it's just annoying. e_O;

The manga's only slightly better, in my opinion. '_';

-_-"

This was the scariest part about becoming a fan of BL and yaoi.
Suddenly the instant reaction to finding out you like it is "HAVE YOU READ GRAVITATION!? OHMYGOD DO IT IT'S THE ULTIMATE YAOI MANGA!"
IRL.
And I go on to explain that it isn't a yaoi manga at all and somehow I know this when I never even picked it up.
Anyway, my friend finally caved and borrowed it from somebody, but she told me the art style got really old really fast, and we both have very similar interests that way.
So I didn't give it a shot. I'm a snob for art style. If I don't like it, I will have a very hard time reading it.
Also I still have the small ignorant fear that if I read Gravitation, the next step is listening to Gakt(?) and suddenly "OHMYGOD YOU'RE ONE OF US NOW LET'S GO EAT POCKY AND USE JAPANESE WORDS INCORRECTLY IN ENGLISH SENTENCES!"
No offense made to anyone who likes those things, it's just become the cliche stereotype fangirl and I can't deal with it.
I do eat Pocky though. XD

Now I don't see Gravi as the greatest BL story ever butI don't see how it's not a BL series. This isn't one of those series that has vague allusions to boy love (ie. Demon Diary and Loveless). Everything in that series comes down to Shuichi's relationship with Eiri. I mean, yeah, when the series starts it seems to be about becoming musicians (like Kaikan Phrase which was primarily about making a band, the romantic relationships a secondary concern) but the minute Shuichi meets Eiri that completely changes. Everything is hinged on whether they'll be together. There are chapters upon chapters that have nothing to do with music and everything to do about kissing Eiri, fixing his relationship with Eiri, having sex with Eiri and so on with Eiri.

Which is actually another thing that I couldn't stand about that series. Being a musician was Shuichi's dream for crying out loud! This wasn't some crappy nine-to-five. No this was his dream and he'd lose that over one of Eiri's mood swings? Don’t give me this ’true love’ garbage. His priorities were screwed. You want to be with that screwed up blond, fine but that doesn’t mean you should your dream--everyone’s dream--on the back burner. I'm surprised Suguru and Hiro stuck around for this kinda crap. Friendship only goes so far.

Sorry... that last part wasn't directed at you, retice. I just remembered it and it annoyed me. ^^;;;;;;;

I'd have to say for a lot of people, Gravitation is to the BL genre like PokeMoonZ is to anime--not many would be introduced to it without that one gateway show. Which is probably why I still have a soft spot for it.

I suppose alot of people hate Gravitation because alot of the fans are 13 year olds who think it's the greatest yaoi manga on the face of earth. I don't really like the Gravi manga, it's too long and boring. The anime is short and sweet. Good music and all. x3 heart My first experience with yaoi is when I picked up FAKE in Suncoast (when I was 15 and they hardly had any manga at all) and I was like "Wow! It's really yaoi!" Of course then I was suprised. Then I clicked around on Anipike and found yaoi links and thus begun my (lifelong?) obsession. There are alot of Gravi haters out there.

Ah! Sorry I didn't reply. I completely forgot about posting here. ^^;
I meant it's not a yaoi manga because there is no graphic sex. Yaoi = graphic male sex. Unless I'm mistaken? There are many different interpretations, as I'm told. But Gravitation is definetely a BL manga lol. Sorry I didn't clarify.

-ANIME-

I found Shuichi to be -far- to "feminine" in the anime. -_-; and rather annoying. Ryuichi kicked a**. But that also may be in part that I am a bit of a Kappei-sama. <.<;

I was also rather displeased with the changing of Eiri's eye color, though they changed just about everything in the anime. I suppose I just didn't care for the anim with the exception of Ryuichi. -_-

-MANGA-

I've read the first few volumes browsed others. It's interesting enough, and Murakami-sensei's art is very energetic. (the word that seems to come to mind is "splash" when I see her art. *ponders*)

(on a side note Gravitation was not my "gateway" anime. ^^; )

I used to like it, but as the series went on it just got...bad sweatdrop I gave the whole series to my sister. It wasn't the first BL I'd read, so I could care less. It's bubblegum, kids stuff. It had it's amusement.

One thing that I really couldn't stand about it was how fem Shuichi looked. He looked like a chick; I'm not really into such obvious distinctions between uke and seme. He started out looking like a guy...:shrug: And I agree with Lady Nox in a posting up there, that the second Shuichi meets Eiri, his life is completely controlled by Eiri's moods. Blergh gonk
