Alyssia froze momentarily at Zoe's questioning, racking her mind for an excuse as to where she was. "I had official business to attend to, and I then escorted someone to the dungeons. All in a days work." She covered, her expression unchanging. "I expect a full report later. We will have to decide how to best deal with the threat in the south." She informed her as she began to think of possible solutions. Alyssia was not oblivious, and she knew that opposing forces were beginning to grow. She would most likely spend the night plotting an attack against them rather than relaxing as she had hoped, something she was quite upset about.
Alyssia turned to Lucian, deciding to respond to his comment as well. "My day's are always quite productive, and today was no different. I do apologize that I have been gone all day, however." She said, her voice forced. She was not apologetic in the least at the fact that she had been gone all day, and Lucian was probably the person she cared about the least. She had trouble finding her place in their facade as King and Queen, and she often was unsure on how to treat the man.

What a nice response, oh gracious Queen... Lucian thought to himself sarcastically, as he dipped his head in respectful acknowledgement of her words, Though it sounds very forced. You can do much better than that, you amateur.
As he looked to the side, he noticed that Zoe was observing him.
He gave her a dark smirk, hidden from the gaze of the Queen.
Shhh... He whispered in Zoe's mind, his voice deep and silky.
He then gave the Queen one last smile.
"I am glad that you have returned safely, my Queen. I'm sure you have many tasks to attend to. I shall be in my chamber, if you ever need my assistance."
He gave her a bow, retreating silently, knowing that the Queen will not be visiting him later.
"Please excuse me. Enjoy your rest, Queen Alyssia."
Though you will likely be up all night, coming up with the most undesirable strategies, hahaha...
As he left, he sent one last telepathic message to Zoe.
Speak with caution, little girl. I trust that you will spare her the details of our earlier exchanges...I will be watching.
The door closed behind him.

Alyssia breathed a sigh of relief as Lucian left. She did not enjoy his company, and she definitely did not seek it. Any exchange between the two was often tense and uncomfortable, as their marriage was nothing more than a facade.
Relieved with his exit, Alyssia looked towards Zoe. "Good riddance." She said, more to herself than the woman in front of her. A small smile played at the corner of her lips as she spoke. "Am I ever slacking, really? Even when I choose to enjoy free time I generally end up doing work as well." She said, a bit bitter at the thought. Pushing this thought away, Alyssia returned to the matter at hand. "Now that he is gone, I will be needing the full report on your quest. There is much planning to be done." She looked around the room, as checking to make sure no one was around to hear Zoe's report.

She shuddered at Lucian speaking into her mind. It freaked her out every time and left her feeling powerless. In deep thought, she tried to decipher what Lucian could possibly be concerned about the Queen knowing.
Of course, I'm going to tell the Queen. I'm obligated to tell her even if it was a joke.
After Lucian had left, the tension in the room dropped. Alyssia looked much more relaxed and focused her attention on Zoe.
She shook her head, "You work extremely hard, my Queen. That's how the kingdom has lasted so long."
She waited till the Queen confirmed there was no one listening to their conversation before taking a deep breath to report all that had happened.
"As requested, I booked a ship for passage to the lost isles to explore the ruins and to potentially discover any powerful artifact."
She sighed disappointed in herself and looked sideways at her feet.
"Soon after we left the port, we were raided by pirates causing my ship to be destroyed, and I was left abandoned on some of the wreck floating aimlessly. I drifted for a day before I was rescued by some people. I was slightly delusional at first from lack of water and being in the sun for so long, but I soon gained consciousness."
She paused letting the Queen soak it all in before continuing.
"When I came too, I was greeted by a white-haired and a white haired girl with purple eyes in a tent. They introduced themselves as Fain and Memel and explained they had rescued me. Memel had healing abilities and had been healing the wounds I had received from the pirates. After I was fully healed, they took me to meet their leader." She paused a grim expression on her face as she looked at the Queen straight in the eye.
"It was Luna Solaris. I had been rescued by the Lights. I pretended to have amnesia so they wouldn't kill me. It worked at first, and I had stayed with them for a couple of months learning as much as I could. During that time, I learned Fain was a lone elf abandoned by his tribe and a skilled hunter acting as their bodyguard most of the time. Memel was skilled with the bow and would often try to help Fain hunt but would scare the prey away. Luna is still a witch like the previous rulers and was mainly skilled in light magic, but she weakens easily. I also learned how to wield daggers and knives. Luna had a lot of books so I read poison and potion making. They also mentioned that they were glad to be above ground and that they didn't have to travel through dark tunnels. I imagine that they live underground somewhere and only surface for recruitng and supplies."
She took a break catching her breath before finishing off the rest of her report,
"At the end of the second month, a dark-haired man joined us and soon suspected I was lying and tried to expose me. I don't really remember his name, but he constantly had the shimmer of a disguise around him so I believe that wasn't his true form. I fled at night under an illusion and started heading north towards home.I have more to report about what happened once I was in our borders."
She leaned in whispering to the Queen,
"It's about Lucian. He seems to travel often out of the castle trying to dig up information about the Lights, but he also seems to be plotting something against you my Queen." |

Alyssia listened to Zoe's tale, nodding along as she spoke. She knew that the trip to the Isle's would not be a pleasant one, but she did not expect it to go as interestingly as she had explained it. Never had she imagined that the woman would end up as part of a Light clan with none other than Luna Solaris.
As Zoe finished speaking, Alyssia began to respond. "This is all very valuable information. Now we know what kind of leader the lights have, as well as the kind of company she has with her. If she goes on excursions such as this often, we may be able to find and eliminate her. Eliminating a leader will send the rest of the lights into chaos, making them easier to handle." She paused to think for a moment, playing with more ideas in her head. "You say they seemed to live underground? In a cave system, probably. We will have to consult the maps to see if there is any such thing that could be a possible home to the lights."
As Zoe mentioned Lucian's possible betrayal, Alyssia let out a sharp laugh. "I already know that Lucian is not faithful to the kingdom, but I do keep my tabs on him. I do not allow him to learn information on us that could harm us." She informed her before continuing. "Any other concerns, Zoe?"

"Of course, I shall see to it immediately, my Queen."
She started a list in her head, making she cover everything the Queen had mentioned. She laughed a little embarrassed,
"No, I haven't researched anything but the basic structures there and the supposed undead god that roams the place. I believe he is commonly referred to as the Lich."
She kept a composed face, but shuddered inside.
I hate to spend anymore time with Lucian, but if she insits I must.
She gave a polite smile, noting that the Queen seemed to be lost in thoughts about something.
"If you'd like, my Queen, I'll meet you in your study or room with some food so you could have a short rest before we continue working?" |

Alyssia nodded at Zoe as she walked away, grateful for her help. With that, she ventured towards her chambers. Her mind was lost on the thoughts of the past, and the people she had come to know. She barely noticed her surroundings as she finally neared her chambers and opened the door, peering in at the room inside. Her eyes drifted to the bed, which she had little use for. She could not sleep, unfortunately, and instead only used the furniture for times such as this one. Even she could not deny the comfort of a bed.
Alyssia's feet took her swiftly to the bed, and she found herself laying down before she could even think to do so. Her mind continued to race as she closed her eyes. She could not stop thinking about those she surrounded herself with, such as Shiv, Zoe, and Lucian. She held little trust for Lucian, who seemed to be plotting her demise with every waking moment. She often found herself trusting Zoe and Shiv however, a mistake that would most certainly be her downfall.
With these thoughts, her mind wandered to the past. It had been hundreds of years since his death, but the wound still felt raw. Whenever her mind brought her to this it caused her body to fill with the same rage she had felt at his execution. The new information on the lights only added fuel to the fire, and her need to avenge him grew.
Alyssia let out a sigh, noting that her attempt at relaxing had made her angrier than she had been originally. She sat up, waiting for Zoe to enter the room.
