He nodded his head in understanidng, often at midday animals would rest and hide from the sun. He was used to such patterns, and it didn't; surprise him that an army did too. He took the offered map/sketch Leon had made. Quickly glancing it over and noting how it overlapped and expanded on the other maps he had shown him. He looked up at Leon as he said his parting remarks. Emtionless eyes...a wolf in sheep's cloth. He nodded his head with the same sentiment in mind. As he turned t4o leave, he looked back once more at the shelf of books.
"You have an assortment of books Aeon...In the future, I would like to borrow a Fae book." With that Fain left the strategist and headed outside to find Soren. Flying outside the headquarters Soren, screeched as he spotted his master and flew down landing on his offered arm. Fain headed back to his room, preparing to pack and head out still brimming with annoyment.

You have an assortment of books Aeon...In the future, I would like to borrow a Fae book.
Leon played the same sentence over and over again in his head, as he exited his study, taking a different path than Fain.
For some reason, the prospect of perhaps meeting with Fain again in the future made Leon happy.
A warm, bubbly feeling. Something that Leon didn't know he could feel.
Yes, him and Fain could certainly meet again.
Maybe even become friends.
...
Leon's heart gave a strange twist at the thought of that.
A dull, empty ache.
A feeling of nostalgia...

When Leon snapped out of his thoughts, he was in front of Fain's door.
"..................."
He frowned. Last night and right now, he didn't understand a single bit of it.
Unexpected.

The sound of footsteps echoed in the tunnel behind him.
Fain.
Quickly, Leon shifted into his puppy form, sitting in front of the door. Silent, still, and most well-behaved.

He walked down the hallway trying to withhold his annoyed muttering so not to agitate Soren. As he approached his room, he heard a light panting and a soft bark. He smiled, his mood raised at seeing Noel sitting outside his room. He reached the door and patted the pup's head before turning the handle.
"Hello, boy welcome back." He entered his room leaving the door ajar for the dog. Soren flew from his arm and landed on the perch, starting to preen. The bird also continued to keep an eye on the dog. Fain walked to his bed before flopping down and holding the small map up before crumpling it.
"I know the land here and beyond." He covered his face with an arm, "I memorized it soon after I joined the Light's."
How has he learned so much is his little human life span? Unless he's something else, it wouldn't make sense.
"He's so arrogant, assuming all I can do is train animals...makes it sound like I should become a jester or join an entertainment group." Standing up he started packing shoving stuff aggressively into his bag.
"He's too complicated and untrustworthy. Anyone that can think like that shouldn't be trusted for all we know he could be playing us as fools." He grimaced at what he could be potentially implying.
"But Luna recruited him, so he must have some merit." He didn't want to trust the man. I'll play along, but that doesn't mean I'll blindly trust him. Leaving his bag he headed over to one of the many mole and rat holes in the room. He placed a wedge of cheese in front of it. He waited for a mouse to come before catching it. The mouse squeaked a little in surprise as its ear approached Fain's mouth. It nodded at Fain's whispered words before jumping from his hand and scampering off.
He crouched there thinking of what he needed to do before leaving.

Leon sat nearby, listening to Fain complain about him in silence.
...................
When the rat appeared and scampered off after being whispered to, Leon turned his gaze on to it.
...................
He will have to make sure that nothing was sniffing through his documents later.
All of a sudden, he was hit with a strange feeling of weakness.
He shook his head, trying to clear away the feeling.
Leon had plenty of sleep last night, and usually had no trouble maintaining his forms.
But why now...
He could feel himself losing control on his husky form, a low growl escaping from his throat.

Fain was jolted from his thoughts at a low growl coming from the doorway. He turned quickly in around in concern for Noel. Standing up, he slowly walked over be the pup. He slowly held a hand out with a treat for the dog to approach. He looked in the dog's eyes looking to see if they were red, dull, or watering, and he also observed the dog's accelerated breath. "It's okay Noel...I'll take care of you, come here." He patted his leg trying to encourage the dog over.

Leon growled, backing away from Fain.
He didn't like treating Fain this way, but his control was getting weaker and weaker...
Then, he remembered something.
A strange scent in the ruins the night before.
A dull, almost colorless scent. One without taste, without essence...without life.
He growled again, realizing what had tampered with his magic powers.
The most tricky opponent he could have have the misfortune, or fortune to encounter.
Unable to wait any longer, he scampered off into the tunnels, searching for a place to hide.

-a few minutes later-

Leon slumped down the walls of a corner that nobody visits.
He was out of magic energy for now, so he had to revert back to his Fae form.
Not wanting to appear before people without a disguise, he decided to hide here for the moment, until his energy returned.
Closing his eyes, he rested the back of his head against the wall, serenaded by the silence around him.

Fain froze in shock as Noel refused to come to him this allowed the pup to escape. Animals never ran away from him. They usually found him when injured or scared. He didn't know what to do and just stared at the open door. After a few minutes of silent contemplation, Fain stood up and ran out into the hallway.
He'll hide somewhere that os enclosed and easily protected if he's hurting. He can't climb anything. He must be somewhere nearby in a room or hallway rarely travelled. Quietly he started searching for where Noel had run too.

He started from the base of the building and worked upwards. On the second to last floor, he turned a corner and saw another Fae slumped against the wall asleep or dead, Fain wasn't sure. Ignoring the body he continued past till he gave into a nagging feeling and stopped in front of the person. He nudged him with his foot.
"Are you alright?"

Leon opened his eyes, turning his icy blue gaze toward Fain.
"..................."
He stared at him for a long moment, before giving the latter a smile.
"Yes. Thank you."
He stood up, shaking slightly.
He didn't want to run into Fain now. In this form.
"Excuse me."
Leon attempted to walk away, but found himself slightly light-headed.
Gripping the walls beside him for support, he slumped to the ground, trying to calm the disturbance in his magic within.

Fain really just wanted to continue searching for Noel but stopped as the man slumped against the wall obviously dizzy. There was something about him that nagged at Fain. Frowning Fain walked over and slung one of the man's arms over his shoulder. Touching the man, he could almost feel the whirl of magic turmoil.
"Where's your room?" He figured once the man was resting; they would be able to focus on calming their magic.
Maybe Noel sensed his pain and reacted? Is he Noel's owner?
He looked over the man slightly jealous if that was the case.

"It's the one at the end of the farthest right tunnel." Leon managed to say, as he leaned against Fain for support.
As much as he didn't want Fain to discover his true identity, he had to return to his room.
There was something there that could help him after all.

He started heading down the hall basically caring the man who could barely walk straight. He was silent as the man seemed to be trying to focus his magical energy. It was possible for one to channel their magic through someone else. Fae children often did it unconsciously channeling it into the surrounding area causing vegetation and plants to grow sporadically. Fain almost suggested helping the man but figured if he wanted to do that, he would simply ask. Opening the door, he dragged the man in setting him on the bed.
"Do you need me to get anything?" He asked curiously. Now that he thought about it, he had never seen this Fae amongst the camp.
Is this what Leon meant by questionable behavior?

Leon laid down on the bed, an arm swung across his forehead, covering his eyes.
"The book." he said, as he took a deep breath to calm himself down, "The book on the table."
There was a solitary, ancient-looking book on the table. One that looked as if it has been used many times over the years, almost ready to fall apart. An intricate spell lingered on its surface, keeping the contents of the book from falling out.
Fae sancti magicae manu est Advanced.
Fae's Advanced Holy Magic Manual, it read, in human tongue.

He skeptically walked over to the desk looking at all the research notes and random scribbles. He noticed a thick and ancient book that was well worn with familiar Fae writing on it. The spell cast on it was the same as on his childhood stuff. He read the title flipping through. He glanced over some of the spells, nostalgia growing as he mumbled some of the words he saw. The leader's used to chant these...How does he have a book of these spells? I thought they were all ruined during the disputes and burned when the Fae joined the dark faction. He looked over at the mystery man, trying to figure out who he was and decided was trustworthy since he practiced holy magic. Bringing the book over, he dropped it in the man's lap. He sat legs crossed and leaned back on his arms next to the man on the bed.
"Will you be even able to work that magic in your state? They require a lot of control. It would be better to rest and let the magic calm down."

".............."
Leon did not answer.
Picking up the book, he closed his eyes, and began to chant:

"In principio creavit Deus caelum et terram.
Dixit quoque Deus: 'Fiat lux,' et facta est lux.
Et vidit Deus lucem quod esset bona et divisit lucem ac tenebras .
Appellavitque lucem 'diem' et tenebras 'nocte.'"

The pages of the book began to flip by themselves, as a gentle gust of wind surrounded Leon, a pure white light illuminating his form.

"Noli timere: plures filii lucis sitis.
O Fortuna semper tecum.
Stabilis corde expectamus.
Procedant nemo jumentum moretur.
Sanguinem enim venenum nocere nox est."

As he finished chanting, a blinding flash of light enveloped the room.
Then, everything was silent and tranquil once again.
Exhausted, Leon dropped the book beside him on the bed, falling back into the arms of Fain, in deep slumber.

Fain quieted as the person gathered their magic and started chanting. He titled his head listening intently to what spell it was. The pronunciation was right with their tribe's dialect. A light started glowing around the man as at the end of the spell a bright light flashed blinding Fain. Next thing he knew there was a wait on his lap. His eyes slowly recovered from the flash, and he looked down at the sleeping face.
"That's why I said to rest before casting the spell." He sighed looking away and trying to learn more about the man from his room.
He noticed volumes of spell books and pronunciation guides.
"So you can cast high dispel...what else is possible then?" He recognized the spell from the elders. They would cast it before they entered an area that had ancient or rare creatures they wanted to keep safe. The spell also worked to stop harmful or disturbing magic affecting the susceptible Fae children. Looking back at the man the nagging feeling returned. "You must be from my tribe, but I swear I don't know you...I was the only one exiled."
Well...there was them... He stayed still and silent, lost in old memories.
