Azu_Manga_Daioh Kawaii~Phoenix nghtwalkercain At this point of time I think its a bad idea. I mean, I want more BL too and the more exposure it gets the more gets liscensed and brought over. But right now (In the US anyway) with all the homophobia and hate I don't think its a good idea. It'll just give the bigots in office an excuse to ban the stuff we love...and knowing them, they might even try to ban anime/manga all together seeing this "homosexual filth" as they would call it. I agree with him. Not only that but it's doing everything big first which is not good. People in this dumb america needs to adjust. They should shows litttle here and there so people can get the fact that it is another part of art instead of automatically thinking it's hentai or for those who dont just cartoon porn as such. We are talking about people who are so in-the-box that hardly gay/lez/bi shows gets pickited or bad publicity. So bad that you thought it was the next 9/11 or something. It's true. Theses are the same people who get freaked out about a boy kissing another boy and it would be a peck, either in movies or walking down the street. Im not saying all people are like this but sadly there is a majority. I agree with both of you very much. I've always been worried about yaoi becoming more publicly known. Yes, a bit here and there is okay... But I don't want people to start getting upset and calling it filth. With all of the edgy people on the issue of homosexuality, I don't want any bad publicity for it. I don't want ignorant people to think all anime is gay or porn, or that it's all violence and filth for children (even though most of it isn't for children). Plus if edgy parents start to hear about yaoi, then they may start to question any of their children who are into anime or monitor what they buy. I don't know what extremes people will go to, but I've heard some get pretty extreme. That's absolutely true. The negativity that some may get from Yaoi could be generalized into all anime. That in and of itself is a bad thing, aside from the fact that just getting a negative vibe from Yaoi is bad enough. Plus, it might cause even more people to look down on homosexuality and all that, ("They're making Gay Cartoons now?!") which is even worse. I mean, I guess it's a good thing that more people are aware of it and it's not quite as esoteric as it used to be. But I think that it's mostly buissness. It's the forbidden fruit gimmik. I think that by making it so popular so suddenly it might make people hate it rather than those who could have been introduced to it slowly and could have actually liked it.
That being said, I am thoroughly amused that I went to Borders and near the manga section they had anime merchandise. One of which was a small bag/purse with "I heart YAOI" on it.
