ωнєяє: Galla Grounds // ωнσ: Keris // σσc: thus we begin our game of oneupmanship I whisper [aka give me something to work with]

Vi had assumed that nobody even bothered to follow her, which was what she expected. Generally nobody ever did. Whatever, she could take care of herself. Clearly Smoke wasn't going to do much, and Freya was probably going to stay with Sonata because Freya seemed useless as s**t. Artemis apparently had zoned out, so obviously she wouldn't do anything useful. That left Vi alone, trekking through the smoke until Keris came into view.

Vi's eyes watered; the gas, as she'd expected, was slowly seeping into the mask. Maybe it had been altered that way, or maybe it was just that the mask was faulty. Either way, she had to move quickly or she was afraid she might lose herself to the hallucinations again. She could almost sense the figure of Him behind her, but she flat-out refused to turn around. Instead, she kept her eyes on Keris.

"It isn't safe to play lone wolf right now," she said, her voice muffled by the mask. "As much as I'd love to leave you here to your own devices, it'd be safer we all stayed in a group and didn't split up."

Yes, Vi knew she was being a huge hypocrite saying that. She herself had just strayed from the group with the intent of retrieving Keris, but she justified it with her reason for doing so: making sure Keris didn't do something ******** stupid. Then again, she also knew that it was likely that Keris would simply flip her off and keep walking. She knew better, though. Keris could act that he was fully in control all he wanted, but he had to have some sort of regrets, some sort of fears, that materialized into vivid false life before his own eyes. At the very least, Vi wanted to make sure he didn't hurt himself. Maybe if she was lucky, she could even save him from a hallucination and then they'd be truly even! Hmmm, that was a thought. Vi grinned, hidden behind the mask, and then straightened, ignoring the dark shapes that were beginning to fade into existence at the corners of her vision.

"Look, if you don't come to the group and wait until all this literally blows over, then I'm staying with you." She folded her arms. "I'd love to not have to, but I can't just leave you alone. That's just stupid."

                                                                    ι ɢeт тнe ƒ є є ℓ ι η g jυѕт Ⴆҽƈαυʂҽ, everyтнιɴɢ ι touchιѕɴ'т ⓓ ⓐ ⓡ ⓚ eɴoυɢн

He was almost dumbfounded by her words. Almost, but not quite. Shaking his head, Jared picked a knife from his throwing set, tossing it up and catching, tossing and catching, all the while wondering if their unhealthy little game would stop if he killed himself here and now. Maybe the smoke had made him woozy, but he thought that there might be some shred of truth to Rose's words. After all, they still had no definitive answers, and the crazy stranger could be anywhere - the gas could be anywhere. And hey, what the hell, the more the merrier. Even if they were unconscious.
He couldn't help the rising wave of annoyance that began to furrow his brow. With a sigh, he got up, shoved the knife back in the holster, and chuckled.
"Isn't it ironic? I was just saying that to you, little miss saving-the-world."
He began to trudge after her, sullen and silent. Jared had no idea where to begin. He quite obviously owed her for towing his a** back to relatively safely; not only had he not thought about grouping up, if the idea could possibly form in his mind, Jared's pride would have prevented him from doing so.
She's enjoying this, he suspected. No, Jared didn't flatter himself to think that Rose was enjoying his personality and presence, but the fact that she was debt-free, as it were. He scowled, barely noticeably, but continued walking.

ωнєяє: Galla Grounds // ωнσ: Keris // σσc: cackles

"Believe me, the irony's not lost," Vi muttered. She was being a huge hypocrite, and she knew it, and honestly? She was surprised Keris wasn't getting in her face about it and giving her a much harder time than calling her miss saving-the-world. But she'd rather get teased about it than risk facing a corpse; she couldn't deal with that, especially when she was so close to leaving for her next job. Besides, she owed Keris for... whatever... and she refused to be in anyone's debt.

However, Keris shocked Vi in coming willingly. She had been certain she would have had to argue with him for at least ten minutes before knocking him out (or at least attempting to) and dragging him back by force. However, Vi did not question her luck, so she turned and started to lead Keris in the general direction back to the group. The smoke wasn't quite as thick in that area, but it was thick enough that it was easy to get lost. Fortunately for Vi, she had pretty much just walked in a straight line, so theoretically it would be a simple matter of turning 180 degrees and walking in the opposite direction. Anyway, the group had been located near the thickest of the smoke, so that was a good indicator too.

A thought made Vi slow her pace for just a brief moment. Was it... wise to lead Keris towards the thicker smoke? Sure, the smoke was relatively harmless, but the hallucination-inducing gas was another story, and Vi had been assuming that it was stronger as the smoke was thicker. She did her best to shake off the thought. After all, Sonata had masks that could help... even though she was starting to get a little dizzy. Clearly these masks hadn't seen use in a long time, or the gas was engineered to get past it. On second thought, maybe returning to the group wasn't a good idea.

Vi wasn't sure if Keris actually had been having any serious hallucinations; so far he seemed to have had them under control. But Vi wasn't sure if she wanted to find out what happened if he couldn't control them. She stopped walking completely for a moment, trying to decide the next move. Higher ground would be idea, because there was a high likelihood of there being very little gas, but most of Gallagher was either low to the ground or under said ground, so that idea was out. The most logical course of action was evacuating to Roseville, but Vi assumed that the school had gone on auto-lockdown, so that wasn't happening anytime soon. Taking refuge in the underground CoveOps section also seemed like a good course of action, but Vi was pretty sure that place had been locked up; the teacher had left on business, and disliked anyone else entering his classroom.

Vi huffed and started walking again. Thinking and not acting was no good. She needed to keep moving or else Keris was going to think she was crazy, and she had to lead him back to safety so she didn't owe him s**t. She had to stop getting lost in thought or she was going to... get... lost... for real...

Okay, no need to panic. All Vi had to do was find the thickest smoke and walk towards that. Only now all the smoke was looking very similar in thickness. Still no need to panic. She kept walking as if she knew exactly where she was going. Hell, the grounds weren't that big. Worst came to worst they'd trip over an unconscious student and drag them to safety. No need to panic. Vi could handle the hallucinations if they came. She would be fine. She was in total control. She was not internally swearing.

                                                                        MOTHERFU--

Ah, the sourcing specialist on crew has pointed out that two of your images, although sourced, are invalid - the artist that drew them says on their profile that they do not permit the use of their images (it's the two by the same artist). The other one is fine, though. Crew requests that you don't use those two images for your post layout! Sorry for the inconvenience, I know that's the second time you remade your post layout!

Jared Dietrich
[Keris] Senior

Honestly, he felt like a useless little kid, but the same went for Rose. It was pathetic, how without each other, they'd probably have been just as dead as Bea or in a hospital somewhere. This forced a dry laugh out of him as he followed her along. Feeling the distance between them like a space between their awkward alliance, Jared dropped back a bit and let her continue on first. He wasn't even aware of the smoke. That is, until she walked straight into the thickest of it, disappearing completely from view.
What in the actual ******** this kid suicidal or something? Or did she just decide that she'd had enough trying to run around after him and just kicked the bucket before anything else could happen? Neither of them seemed plausible or even possible, but al the same, Jared tried to peer through the shifting clouds of gas as best he could. Of course, even with his twenty-twenty vision, there was nothing there. Absolutely ******** nothing. That ******** idiot of a girl.
He caught his feet moving only when he could calm the rising anger, but managed to stop himself in time. Halting before the cloud, Jared sighed, internally argued with himself about whether he really was as much of an idiot as Rose was, and finally decided in the affirmative.
"Black Rose, you," his voice was muffled in the hazy air, but it should have been quiet obvious to anyone within a ten-mile radius that he was cursing his head off. Wait. He took a deep breath to continue his barrage of words, coughed, and realised that he had officially demoted himself to ultimate idiot status, right alongside the girl he was trying to find. Jared dropped to one knee, his head spinning, and tried to prop himself up on both arms. He ended up contacting flesh - human flesh. Desperately hoping that it was her and not some random unconscious student, Jared took a deep breath - <********> - and sent the last dregs of his strength into his arms, pulling her towards himself and using that momentum to push her out the way he came in from. He took two crawling steps backwards to try and follow her out of the smoke, but was immediately wracked with a violent series of hallucinations. Jared lay on the ground, feeling imaginary pangs of pain all over himself, old fight wounds and beatings, while a barrage of angry words assaulted his ears. Still the gas swirled around him thicker and thicker, until he was completely unaware of his surroundings, and he could only hold onto the one word that he felt about his situation: <******** style="color: silver">I think I'll just stick to no layout ;3

ωнєяє: Galla Grounds // ωнσ: Keris // σσc: I considered hugging him but this works too

Vi had successfully walked five yards before realizing Keris was no longer directly behind her.

She cursed quietly. She should've been listening to his footsteps! She should have made him walk at her side, so she could keep watch. She should have done any number of things to make sure he couldn't lose her in the smoke. But she didn't. Was the gas addling her brain? Or maybe she was just not thinking straight, because she was panicked but trying to stay calm. Was that why she was overlooking things? She coughed. She couldn't find the group now; she needed to find Keris, fast. Leaving him alone was a nasty idea.

It was about that time she heard someone (Keris!) yell her code name, followed by a string of what sounded like particularly nasty adjectives. Vi didn't blame him; she'd probably be cursing herself out too. She tried to locate him by noise alone, but as she moved forward and the voice got louder, it suddenly faltered and vanished. Vi heard a soft thump somewhere very near to her and a second later warm flesh closed over her ankle.

Vi almost kicked reflexively, but then said warm flesh pulled on her and she lost her balance, falling to the ground. She grunted in pain, but brushed the dull ache out of her mind the moment the grip on her ankle loosened. It was Keris, it had to be. She blinked hard to get the smoke out of her eyes and coughed; it hadn't nearly been this thick before, had it? Was the smoke spreading? She hoped the group would move to higher ground and forget about Sage, vanishing into the smoke, blood tracing wet paths down her arm. She could take care of herself. Smoke could take care of herself. Sonata and Freya? Vi doubted that.

She shook her head. What was she thinking? Keris was right here, and if he had let go of her ankle that meant he had either passed out or... Oh s**t. Oh s**t oh s**t oh s**t oh s**t. Vi crawled forwards until she lay a hand on cloth; she couldn't see very well, so she waved away the smoke with her other hand.

Sure enough, there was Keris, and he didn't look so good. Vi had touched his back. She quickly withdrew her arm and pulled herself up to him, running through her options. She went cold without realizing it.

Priority: Calm down Keris, snap him out of whatever he's hallucinating about. Options: he threw stones at me. Are there stones around here? No, just a lot of dirt. Damn that groundskeeper for being good at his job. Getting out of the smoke and gas? Not sure if that's an option right now. Location unknown, could be anywhere from three steps from the dorms to half a mile down in the training fields. Calm him down, how to calm him down... how to get out of this situation? Most efficient way: leave Keris and get out yourself. No, no, that's not right for this situation, only for solo missions, got to remember that. What does he need to do? He needs to stop inhaling the gas and have a good shock to shock him out of it. Hmm...

Vi stopped thinking; she acted. She scooted into position and, in one smooth motion, flipped Keris onto his back and lifted him into a sitting position. Then she pulled her gas mask over her head and slipped it over Keris's. Finally, muttering, "I'm gonna enjoy this," Vi proceeded to slap Keris.

                                                                        Hard.

                                                                        NOW we're even.

                                                                    ι ɢeт тнe ƒ є є ℓ ι η g jυѕт Ⴆҽƈαυʂҽ, everyтнιɴɢ ι touchιѕɴ'т ⓓ ⓐ ⓡ ⓚ eɴoυɢн
