Kangit A Thief Appears Kangit Except I actually use my phone camera a lot, and I like being able to take a picture if I need to at a moment's notice. Plus, the phone camera is rarely pointed at me, while my laptop's webcam and my 3DS's camera are always facing me when I'm using it, and I never use the camera part of those, so it serves no function for me. My phone seems to be from Samsung. Luckily, I'm not in Egypt, and I doubt I'll ever even visit it, because it sounds too hot and dry. Since I don't think the United States' government can throw you in jail for having the wrong religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc., I don't think it'll be a problem for me anytime soon. If they ever change that, I'll figure out what to do when it happens. I'm not sure what you're trying to defend here? At any rate, I was merely explaining why this is not new to the Xbox One, and the fact that people seem so crazy over it is almost ridiculous when compared to the devices people use daily. I don't actually know that much about the Xbox line, but the way TS Sailor Cronus phrased it, it almost sounded like random people could casually look into your house (presumably without hacking the camera), and you're not allowed to turn it off (or tape over the camera). Maybe I misunderstood it? OMG! tape!! or even a cover!! That is the answer ninja

It seems kind of time-consuming to have to tape and untape it all the time (I thought it required the camera/sensor thing for games and other stuff?). Again, I really don't know how to properly use an Xbox One.

Pwnder I always say I've got nothing to hide, so whoever is watching can keep on doing so. I'm smart enough to know that if I'm going to do some shady crap I'll just leave my phone at home. ninja Besides, If I go missing or something else I'd only consider the "big brother" aspect of my phone an asset. As for the Xbox one I don't really mind who watches me sit on my couch and drink beer, or watch my cat tear up my furniture in the dark xp I've got nothing gonk The vast, vast, vast majority of people in the world, including innocent people, have more things going on in their living room to "hide" from other people, and nothing will ever justify programming the technology for a peeping Tom, whether through the government or a hacker.
Consider the most common, mundane events that go on in your private life (or others') in the living room, the good and the not-so-squeaky clean but still otherwise private. And you could be all alone, as the only person in the entire house... or a couple... or your children...
Getting drunk. Picking your nose. Throwing up. Changing your clothes. Having sex with your spouse on the couch. (If the right person hacks you and the video goes to YouTube or elsewhere online, you stand a chance to be branded as a sex criminal until-- or if-- everything is cleared up. Oh, and remember all the thousands of people who saw you and won't forget your face and recognize you in public.) Your child running into the room with a bloody nose and crying. (Gosh, it's so obvious that person is abusive to their children!) Punishing your child. (Again, so many instances where the definition of "abuse" can be twisted.) Checking a wound on your body in a revealing area. (Not like you could have helped that skateboard accident in the crotch area.)
And just remember, LOOOTTTTSSS of people play video games in their own bedrooms as well, not just the living room.
Not bothered by spies because you have nothing to hide? Spying is already shady business; it's a short step from spying to planting evidence or corrupting a perfectly innocent act that was caught on camera-- at only one single angle, mind you, so if something is hidden, there's plenty of room to falsify/ assume things.
I'm not trying to antagonize you here, and I hope you don't take it that way. I understand you may personally not have an issue with it, but you have to think about this on a much broader spectrum. There are so many ways in which this is wrong and unhealthy for an overwhelmingly high number of people-- it is not fair to force this on everyone just because a few people feel "comfortable" and "safe" in their own home.
After all, a large part of what creates comfort and safety in your own home is the fact that prying eyes can NOT see you inside. That's why we invented window curtains.

A Thief Appears At any rate, I was merely explaining why this is not new to the Xbox One, and the fact that people seem so crazy over it is almost ridiculous when compared to the devices people use daily. Hoho, don't make the mistake of believing we think phone/ internet taps are okay, because they aren't either. It's just infuriating to see a video game company jump onto this same bandwagon.
Just to clarify, I'm not trying to cause people to start getting into a war over whether the X1 actually will ultimately use these features or whether they will be taken out before release, or whether we should panic and scream "rape" at Microsoft, or whether their features are hackproof. I just felt like it was something worth looking into just to be on the safe side. This is just for safety's sake, and I hope no one tries to take this argument too far. (Not accusing anyone, just warning ahead of time. You guys have been perfectly civil thus far. ^_^ )

Maybe I misunderstood it? It was kinda put to me that way, but I believe that was meant to be a feature you could choose to turn on or off... But my point is that with electronics you always ALWAYS have to be on the lookout for hackers. :/

Once again I wish to clarify that I'm not trying to be angry, spiteful, cause any kind of dispute/ wars/ flaming/ trolling here. And I realize the way I worded some of what I said may come across as unnecessary panic, and I apologize. That is certainly not my intention here. I just wished to raise a certain level of awareness and to encourage you all to look into it for yourselves, do a little research, and weigh the pros and cons of your own decisions yourselves.
Personally, if even any of what I have read and heard so far (and I've still been looking into it on various sources once in a while) turns out to be true, I will have NOTHING to do with the X1 or possibly any of their future products after the fact. I'm not comfortable with that, I do not think that is appropriate behavior because it could so easily lend itself to such abuses, whether by the actual government (maybe) or by hackers (which I'm more concerned about).

I wasn't trying to be totally dismissive about it all. sweatdrop I have considered all of those things of course. I also consider the chances of that happening to me. Higher profile targets are more likely to get hacked though, but again, not totally dismissing that it could happen to me. sad I also don't believe that there isn't some kind of privacy feature that can be enabled or diabled with this sort of high technology console. Of course I could be wrong on that, I wouldn't be surprised if it is some kind of paid feature or an update later on down the road. I'd really have to get my hands on one and fiddle with it before I actually decide to blow $600 ninja

Guess I'm talking (well, typing) faster than thinking right now, and I didn't mean for it to come off that way.
And I know I shouldn't assume people would "know" this right away (really, I just recently discovered my habit of doing this may require some amount of explanation), but usually when I reply to one person (like in the quote feature), I am actually replying to a lot of people; everything I have to say in a forum is public and I always assume such, so sometimes I like to clarify my opinion and things for the benefit of all readers.
Basically, "Hey, someone else might have a similar opinion to this person posting and possibly to a different extent. Not that either person is necessarily right or wrong, but I'd like to clarify my point of view on this topic."
Guess I should include a few more clarification warnings in my more wordy posts, huh? sweatdrop So sorry about that.

And honestly, it's likely been this way for a long time. The fact that they came out about it is brave.

While Microsoft and their friends at the NSA will be watching, it doesn't sound like your friends will be. This is just for streaming our progress, which several people do already with cards or FFSplit on PC. I'm not defending Microsoft in any way. They do idiotic things, but I think that people need to understand that none of this is new. If you're concerned about the Xbox One, then you really need to be concerned about your smart phone as well. Honestly...if you're just concerned AT ALL, then you should look into everything you do. Encrypt your internet, etc etc. I already do, myself, though I have "nothing to hide." It's the principle of the matter for me. It wasn't my generation who allowed the NSA to have as much power as they do, and I'll be damned if I let it cut into my every day life.

So instead of blowing $600 I opted to get an updated version of the 360 during Black Friday sales at Best Buy for $200. Yayy
I had to drive 2 towns over to pick it up but I save $5 with my Best Buy rewards too razz
Sooo. I got a 250GB Xbox 360 with the built in WiFi with 4 games eek
Yeah! 4 games cool
It's a total upgrade in my house because I still own the white version with no WiFi and only 4GB of space with a flash drive plugged in to make room gonk . Also, I've got this dang 50ft ethernet cable that runs circles around my house between Xbox users gonk No more of that cool
Problem solved for now whee
