Right, we've started plotting our current locations on the map and we don't have nearly enough. In any case, a lot of them are a bit obvious.

I'd like your collective help. Think about places you know well, and put forward a few suggestions. Really, anything. A good pub, a wood or forest you like, a particular town or beach. Anything; from a country tea room to a northern housing estate.

I need all sides of this country, and I can't choose or find them by myself because I don't know enough of the country. Your help is essential really.

Oh, and I'll post a photo of our map once we've got a more impressive amount of plotting done.

Tintagel Castle, Cornwall...a must-see

Then of course, there's Dartmoor (which is filled with fabulous pubs and some not-so-great ones...it's pot luck really) and Plymouth...There, you HAVE to see the Nowhere Pub in Gilwell Street...

Lancaster's pretty fab - although I'd recommend retreating to the St Martin's Social Bar on campus after meandering around the castle, perhaps...

Maps and what have you, I'll add when I have a bit of time...TTFN

I can give you a tour of a pretty nasty housing estate near here if you like lol. If you're going to Manchester you have to visit Affleck's Palace, it's fantastic for shopping if you're into that kind of thing. I'm sure I can think of some more places, give me time..

Don't come to Nottingham, you'll be really disappointed. Sherwood Forest used to be quite nice, but not so much anymore. Well, there are large parts of it that are worth a look I suppose so if you do decide to drop by I recommend Sherwood Forest.

Not much else, unless you're into Robin Hood in a very commercialistic way. The "castle" I suppose makes a nice few hours. I used to take picnics there and get hassled by French exchange students. Oh and (I can't believe I nearly forgot this) Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem claims to be the oldest pub in England, and it's a very, very nice pub. Part of it is cut into the sandstone caves underneath most of Nottingham so it's incredibly worth having a drink there.

Excellent!

I'd forgotten Dartmoor, Yes Tor is now on the list. I confess, I'd never heard of Tintagel Castle, but Kate has had it on the list from the outset.

So, Yes Tor - Dartmoor, and Nowhere Pub - Plymouth. Both have been added.

Thanks Illy!

I'll probably take you up on the housing estate, but I don't foresee us having enough money for shopping.

Bear in mind, we're fuelling a Landrover around the country, we're pretty poor middle-class students, and we'll be living primarily off rice, pasta, wild berries, stinging nettles and any mushrooms I can get a positive ID on.

Sherwood Forest was on the list as of yesterday, well. It sortof was. The map didn't show any forest, so I stuck the pin into Nottingham.

New things for the list:

> Picnic at Nottingham Castle.
> A drink (or two) at Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem. (Possibly with Mary?)

How big is Sherwood Forest?
Salient point: Do you think we'd get away with camping in it?

Everyone, excellent help so far! Keep it up..

Also, I'll likely be setting up a Livejournal account or similar to keep you posted as and when we find places to upload photos and post updates.

Sherwood Forest is, I don't know, pretty big. My geography of Nottingham is really poor.

I don't mind having a couple of drinks with you there if I actually have the money to buy any at the time. Also, if you're into Byron, Newstead Abbey is worth a visit as well.

EDIT: I hate you Gaia, I hate you so much.

Ha, well it's not as bad as mine!

Well, the finances are probably up to buying a one-person round of drinks. But after that, I make no promises! Newstead Abbey? Hm, I think both Kate and I would be interested in going there. I'll put it down too.

Why the Gaia-hate?

It would be cool if you could come down to Southampton, we could get some good drinking in, but to be honest there's not much to see. I had a similar idea for my 21st.

just my trip will involve drugs.

Why the Gaia-hate?

Tried to post a link and stretched the page out to unnatural proportions.

Ive been out on Dartmoor on Halloween! It was dark, foggy and bloody scary! But there was like 30 of us bombing it around the moors visiting all the places of story and legends of Dartmoor. We kept a close eye out for the Hairy hand! xd

If your looking for mushrooms (though I doubt you are) Tentsmuir forest is good. But you have to find a nice Polish person (you normally see one or two) to explain what they are. Just avoid the squirels. They throw things.
You've already been to Perthshire haven't you? Don't go to see the tallest hedge. Its a tall hedge by a road.

I'll try and think of something non Scottish.
Hmm.
You could go to Blackpool. I've never been there but it sounds crap.

Ive been to Norwich. That was a very nice and tidy city. It had a pretty good shopping complex there to. The only thing that ruined it though was the Norwich City FC shop xd Id replace it with a Plymouth Argyle one!
