Marionette 1x1

[Kitalpha Hart]

"Butterfly, are you all right? You're going onstage soon, are you willing to continue acting like a marionette?"

 

[Serah of Silence]

"Master, I am a marionette. use me as you need."
((Sounds weird, but okay.))

Lukann nodded as the strings became visible once more. Using them to guide her, he went above the stage and introduced her.
Once again, people loved watching living people interacting with a marionette. He wasn't sure as to why, but if it kept him off the streets, then so be it.

 

[Serah of Silence]

The marionette enjoyed not having to move on her own. Much as she hated being pulled around, sometimes it was nice to relax. Plus, her master had a show, and her being alive was not a part of it.  

[Kitalpha Hart]

Lukann, after the show, was exhausted. He went to the room he had rented at the inn, carrying Butterfly. When the door was shut and locked, he watched as the strings faded. "You gotten me out of a pit, Butterfly." he said. "But...when I touch you, it feels like you weren't always wood. It sfeels like a thin layer of wood over human skin. Why?"

 

[Serah of Silence]

She looked at him. "I was...like you. But...my first master changed me, so that we could have a large marionette. Put my soul in the crow, and marked it so he always knew what crow it was."  

[Kitalpha Hart]

"We? You and him? And he changed you into one?! That's unhuman!"

 

[Serah of Silence]

The marionette stared at her master. "Why do you say that?"  

[Kitalpha Hart]

"Turning someone living into wood?! It-it's wrong!" He said, so furious at her first master, he couldn't speak straight. "No one should be made t'wood!"

 

[Serah of Silence]

"So they did not...make him one...too?"  

[Kitalpha Hart]

"No, they probably found out what he had done and executed him." Lukann growled. "You are going to be changed back, I am going to make sure of it. There is no need for anyone to live through the years as a marionette, doll, or anything they weren't born as!"

 

[Serah of Silence]

The doll stared at him, looking like a true marionette, except for the occasional blinking.  

[Kitalpha Hart]

"Don't you miss being human?" Lukann asked softly. Sighing, he left the room and went down to the common room, where he had a bowl of stew. He ate slowly, thinking of Butterfly and her curse. He knew that she was why he was doin well, but until he'd been chosen to meet her, he had been doing all right. That was nothing compared to now, but he'd rather live and struggle than take advantage of a living marionette. He was going to find out how to break her curse, and let her live her life as a human, as she should have been.

The marionette started to answer, but her master left before she could. Alone, she resumed the slouch of a sitting marionette that had loose strings, and wondered if she wanted to be human, or stay changed. It was hard, thinking about it. She had no idea what to think.  

[Kitalpha Hart]

Lukann went back to his room and glanced out the window to the darkening sky. "Ach, it's getting late." He lit some candles and closed the shutters, locking them. He glanced at Butterfly, who seemed to be asleep, and quickly changed to night clothes. He banked the small fire, blew out the candles, and went to sleep.
The next morning found him deep in conversation with the local witch, talking about Butterfly.
"Ah, a girl turned into a marionette, and those destined to meet her will have standard ones turn to dust? I had heard of it, but had no idea that it was true." She said as the two entered the room.
"As soon as it started, I had forbidden myself to touch my father's marionettes. He made them himself."
"Wise lad. Is she the one?" She asked, pointing to Butterfly.
"Aye."
