As the siblings were led away, and then separated, Olan began to feel lost. Though he was glad that his sister wouldn't have to do both her job and his, he still felt lost without her. He hoped he would get used to this arrangement soon, because he didn't want to continue to feel that he needed Somuka to do everything for him.
Olan's eyes scanned everything he passed, amazed at how different the place was from the old man's home. It seems this new home wasn't terrible at all, but that might only be a first impression. He might see it in a different point of view in a few months, or even a few days.

Kiri turned and smiled, talking non-stop to Olan. She was a cute girl about Olan's age with light brown hair and big blue eyes the color of sapphires.
Jordan, on the other hand, was quiet and almost surly as he led Somuka down to the stables and showed her what to do.
After another few days, Terence called Olan and Somuka back separately, talking first to Somuka, then to Olan, asking the same questions to both. "How are you feeling here? Are you doing the work you're asked to? How are you and the other slaves getting along?"

Somuka had answered pleasantly, having said that she was getting used to the place and she got along well with her fellow slaves. She hadn't said anything about her work except that she was doing what she was told. It was after she answered the questions that she inquired about her brother.
Unfortunately, Olan only remained silent. He just couldn't find any way to answer the questions. Of course he did what he was supposed to do to at least the best of his ability, but he wasn't sure about the first and second questions. He didn't want to tell the master that he was still uncomfortable, but he didn't want to lie or anything either.

"I haven't talked with Olan, yet. I want to talk to him in depth a little bit, so I decided to talk to you first. I'll let you know when I've talked with him. I'm sure he's doing fine, though," Terence assured.
Terence stood and motioned to the couch that was sitting nearby. "Sit down, Olan," he asked gently. "You can tell me the truth, you know. I won't get mad. I want to hear your feelings and opinions of the place."

Olan obeyed the command, but he had yet to find the words he wanted to say. Nothing seemed to have changed, but he wasn't sure if he should tell the master that. He still didn't really trust the new master, even if he didn't seem to be similar to the old.
After a while of silence, Olan took a deep breath. He might as well get everything over with. "E-everything seems okay... so far," he stuttered with a great hesitation. "Everyone's nice and I don't have many problems with work or anything." He shook a little, very nervous about the master's answer.

Terence smiled. "I'm glad to hear you're adjusting. You haven't had any problems with any of the girls? I know some of them can be a bit... flirtatious even though we have a policy against it here."
He was more relieved than could probably be considered proper to hear that Olan wasn't having any problems with his work. He still seemed nervous, though, and that concerned Terence. "Olan, you can relax here. No one's going to hurt you."

Olan just shook his head. "I guess my subconscious doesn't know it's with a new master," he said rather meekly. "So far, there haven't been any problems, and hopefully it'll stay that way." He was having a hard time making eye contact with the master, especially since he was taught that slaves should not do so, but at the same time he couldn't completely avert his eyes.
"Um... Is my sister okay? She's not starting fights with her fellow workers?" Olan suddenly asked, now concerned for Somuka. Back at the old master's place, Somuka would start fights all the time, though the reasons included insults or threats directed towards her or Olan.

Terence chuckled. "I don't think she's started anything. I would have heard about it if she had. She said she was getting along fine with the others, which I'm glad to hear. I was a little worried that something would happen.
"Olan, is there anything I can do to help you adjust to being here? I can promise there won't be any problems, but you seem nervous all the time. It's understandable, but I'd like to help you adjust."

Olan tried to think of some way to answer the question, but he was lost. He didn't know what to tell the master. Personally, he thought there was nothing to be done. The only thing that could help him adjust to his new home was time.
"My sister might know what to do," he muttered after a little while. "She actually knows me more than I know myself. It's a crazy thing to say, but it's the truth." He expected an angry voice to reply, and he closed his eyes tightly just in case.

Terence thought about that for a few minutes. "I'll have to talk to her, then. You're very close with your sister, aren't you?" He smiled softly and stood again, moving away from Olan, trying to make him feel a little more comfortable.
"You can go, Olan. I'll talk to your sister to see if she knows what to do to help you." He nodded, showing that Olan was dismissed.

With a nod, Olan stood up from the couch and hurried away. He figured he had paused in the work for too long and he really needed to begin again. Everyone might say that he wasn't at fault, since he was called to talk to the master, but he didn't want to take any chances.
As soon as he returned to where he had been before, he continued his work. He wasn't sure if he was doing anything properly. Somuka could definitely do better than he ever could. She was always the best, and in the past other slavers had complimented the old master for his "being able to shape up a perfect girl."

Terence decided to go to Somuka instead of having her come back into the house. After locating her, he leaned against a stable doorway lazily. "Sorry to bother you again, but I was wondering if I could talk to you about your brother, Olan.
He seems to be having a hard time adjusting, and I wanted to know if you could make any suggestions to help him. I'd like for him to feel comfortable here."

Somuka, who was laying out some hay for the horses, paused in her work once the master came in. Normally, she would just ignore him and continue working, but she heard her brother's name. If there was anything that involved her brother, everything else didn't matter.
"I'm not really sure if anything I'd tell you would work," she replied a bit sadly. "There was an idea that I've had in mind, but it involves an old building that should be near here."

Terence raised a questioning eyebrow. "I'm listening. Tell me your idea." His tone was as soft as ever, but it held a hint of a command this time. "What building does it include? And what is your idea to help him?"
He wasn't entirely sure why helping these two adjust was so important. He'd rescued hundreds of slaves from other abusive masters and just left them to adjust with the help of the others. Of course, he kept tabs on everyone and made sure they were comfortable, but he'd never gotten so personally involved with two slaves before.
((I'm so sorry. I got busy and haven't been on in a while. I didn't get a chance to tell you.))

(No problem.)
Somuka thought for a moment. "If I remember correctly, there should be a forest somewhere near here," she said. "Before the invasion, my brother and I lived with our family in that forest. Our dad built a house by the lake that we used to go fishing in.
"All you need to do is bring Olan to that building, if it isn't burned down yet. I doubt that he remembers it, but if you take him there, there's a guarantee that he will eventually like you. To us, that building, as cheesy as it sounds, is a symbol of kindness. If he sees it, he'll know you care about him."
