I prefer pads. I'm not a sporty kind of girl, so I really have no need for tampons.
Art FTW cool

Pads. Tampons feel like having sex wayy too early. Besides, I have heavy flow and cramps and PMS and fun stuff so I like to know I'm safe from leaks. My friend also said she got one stuck...

No thanks!

tampons over pads ,but it's not like you can use them every day...

but after switching to the moon cup I no longer have to worry about pads or tampons >:}

I want one. Where can I get one?

Alternatives to the mass produced tampons and pads can be hard to find. Try asking around at specialty health food stores, organic markets and such. Where I am there's a place called "Earth's General Store" that sells them, but I'm pretty sure it's a local business.

Look for places like that.

Thanks, I'll be sure to look. I hear that they are expensive though. Do you by any chance know the price range?

I think it's around about $40.

It's a bit of a high one-time cost, but it is cheaper than buying twelve boxes of tampons. So really you more than break even your first year, and pretty much unless you loose yours you will never have to replace it.

Plus you lower your environmental cost. Every year you would now be producing significantly less waste.

When put into perspective, it's cheep.

I'm going to hunt one down now.

First of all, your hymen can disintegrate on it's own. Don't let that judge your virginity. Mine was gone before I lost mine.

Second, you don't want that thing in the way the first time you have sex ANYWAY.

Third, it IS possible that a tampon can harm you if you're a virgin. If you are a very small girl, tampons can be very dangerous, especially when you haven't been, well, stretched. They cause Toxic Shock Syndrome, which is deadly. You should talk to your doctor about whether or not you should be using tampons.

My vote is on pads. I use tampons occasionally when I wanna go swimming or whatever, but pads have always been a lot more comfortable for me, because I'm a small girl, and even though I'm not a virgin, they're still very risky.

Its all about using the right sized tampon. That's why the box comes with instructions and first time users should really read them.

For the record I would like to say that tampons do not make you loser. I have sex at least twice a week and have had a baby and I am just as tight as I was when i was a virgin using a tampon for week each month won't stretch you out. OK /rant

when I still had my period I preferred pads for myself. I had an oddly angled v****a and my uturis sinks a little when I stand (I learned this after getting my IUD in and having to have the string trimmed because it was poking my c**t) so tampons are very uncomfortable for me. I loved always infinity, they never leaked and they were softer than my panties. I still use them when I have spotting.

i use pads but i think that tampons would be better. i wanted to go swimming one time but my period came, (damn thing!) and my mom just shrugged and said, "use a tampon" i shrug, try one it frigging hurt! but like, first time would hurt, but i chickened out and didn't go swimming. but if i got used to tampons ya i think they would be better.

I used to use pads. Tampons were never convenient enough for me, since I don't go to the bathroom enough in a day that I wouldn't actively have to think about when I'd have to remove it. I still used them when swimming and such, but pads let me worry a lot less about changing. I did end up with messes a lot in the morning when I was on my period, but that was no big deal since I knew how to wash my underwear properly to avoid staining.

Now I use a menstrual cup. I got it in March. It's a Diva Cup, since that's what was readily available. I'm never going back to disposables. I don't have to worry about changing it more often than I use the bathroom and it's an internal product, so It's not too messy and I can swim in it. Menstrual cups do have a bit of a learning curve, and obviously aren't for everyone, but I'm really glad I found out about them. If anyone wants to know anything about them chances are you can find it at Livejournal's Menstrual Cup Community. You could also ask me if you like and I'll answer if I can.

Are they more comfortable than tampons?

I generally use washable cloth pads because I'm a tree huger. They're really comfortable too. Though I did use disposable pads for a while, and I really didn't like them. The only time I'll use tampons is when I'm doing a sport because I need it then, but other that that I would feel guilty about all the pads or tampons I wasted, so I use washable pads. biggrin

Yesh, I have something to say.

I know I sound silly and immature, but I find tampons scary. I forget really easly so I don't know when I'll remember. Yet with pads, they feel like a diaper.

I guess we'll never know, because I forgot.

I use tampons if I go swimming or if the outfit requires it or something, but in general I prefer pads, tampons seem to aggravate my cramps.

I didn't like the idea of tampons at first either, but I got so tired of feeling like I was wearing a diaper.
I felt like everyone could see it, and it make me feel self concious.
So I switched over to tampons.. at first it didn't feel right.. but after a while it was okay.
I've been using them ever since.

I also have a heavy flow so I have to use the Super plus tampons.. if I don't I bleed through regular ones within an hour.

I am 100% for pads, but that is just personal.

I tried using tampons once, but I almost threw up everytime I had to change. They really don't agree with me.

I find pads really comfortable and they don't leak if you use them properly.

Every girl's body is unique, so every answer will be different. I know my older sister prefers tampons because she finds them more comfortable. My mother wears pads because after 6 kids, her flow got so heavy that tampons were completely useless.

I prefer pads. Tampons make me uncomfortable. I don't like the idea of sticking something like that up myself.
