I wasnt in myself, but my ex hubby was.He was a W02 when he got out just before Desert Storm. And funnily enough,he's trying to get back in now. As for now,I'm kinda getting to know a Airman, but he's skittish since he's bout to go to the sandbox and wants to be sure I wont step out.Ugh.(But I do understand really where he's coming from) Oh yes,I must say a HUGE thank you to you guys who have served and are still serving. heart

I think military or government service should be manditory for all high school grads... "When you graduate you'll give your country 2 years and then you can go on to other persuits (or stay in)." Like they do in Isreal. It would bring up the respect level of these kids. stare

Army medic. Best time of my life. I was medically discharged earlier this year. Right now fighting with the VA to get proper diagnoses for everything. Only served a little over 2 years, but wanted to go career. Now my old unit's prepping to deploy and I feel like a total s**t bag for not being there with them. Good to know we've got some military members here that will understand when I say I should be deploying with them.

My dh was in the USAF and I was a volunteer for various things like the airmans attic, family services. Had two kids while were stationed at RAF Mildenhall and then went on to spend time at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota. He did a short stint in Desert Shield. My oldest son is currently in Army National Guard but will be getting out soon do to a medical discharge. My grandfather was Navy WWII and have a string of other relitives in various branches in other wars etc. My nieice and her hubby just joined regular Army the other day. I had planned to go in the military myself but married into instead.

They offer free daycare to volunteers so I figured hay free time away from the children.

I'm just an army brat myself. My dad was in the army reserves. We spent a lot of time travelling from base to base so he could compete in sharp shooting matches. My favorite was the national matches in Ohio at Camp Perry.

I'm married into the Army; my biological father was in the Army during Vietnam (he did 2 tours); my maternal grandfather was Army during WWII (stationed in Germany); my maternal grandmother was an Air Raid Warden during WWII in Baltimore, MD.
I wanted to go into the Navy to be a JAG Officer, however my medical issues prohibited me from enlisting. sad My mother wanted to enlist when she was younger, but couldn't due being allergic to wool (back then they used wool for things instead of polyester, I guess) LOL.

Hanamura-sensei Ex-Army wife here. Lived within the British army quarters in the north-west of Germany for over 3 years before the regiment got disbanded and my ex got moved to 40 regiment in the north of Germany. We lived there for 9 month and then moved to the UK, because he was made redundant ('cos he was a lazy born idle alcoholic, who even after over 9 years of serving in the army refused to make a stripe, because he was afraid he wasn't one of 'the boys' any more once he got some responsibility.) All this is now 14 years ago and the only connection I now have to the army are friends of mine who's husbands are still serving in the army or which are still serving them self. yeah soon to be ex army wife... need I say more. yeah it sucks, don't like it, I'm also living in Germany at the moment, becuase its taking FOREVER for the army to send me back to the states!!! gurrr!!
