MyOwnRainCloud undacuva_druid SugarySweet6 austrailia is awesome! xd Hell yeah! Australia represent! WA to be specific... well kinda specific... But the place is in Brisbane I think... i've never been to Australia before; what's it like?OO: Like? Well I'm not sure what you're used to but judging by what I know about other countries I can tell you how WA is different.
It's big and open, even in the heart of Perth (our biggest city) you can see the sky and not just small chunks. There is no visible air pollution, on bad days perhaps dark clouds around the city but they look kinda like normal clouds anyway, and that is rare.
It gets very hot and dry, even in Winter. For a few years now we have had sprinkler bans and the like because of a drought, although this winter (April) we got a month's worth of rain in one day. That was the day I happened to be on Rottnest Island doing fieldwork for uni. From 8am til 2pm in the pouring rain. Needless to say, everything was drenched razz But our lawns are still green and gardens healthy because we can water 2 days a week before 9am and/or after 6pm.
You don't hafta go far to find a bit of nature. In the city we have a few parks, lots of trees planted everywhere, lawns, gardens etc. We are quite big on Conservation so we try to reserve a lot of natural land in close to each other patches. The closest one to me has wetland birds and is a great picnic spot. If you go up into the hills (about 35mins out of Perth, if you go to the hills past Armadale anyway), the ground becomes red because of the high iron content (rust coloured). Much of the ground out there is nutrient deficient and rocky. In some areas the ground is like a sort of red dry-clay looking rock (it's not actually clay!!!) covered with pebbles of the same stuff. Because it is uneven and hilly ground it can make sliding quite a big threat, but it is great fun if you don't mind getting dirty. The trees up there are big but thin and they thrive despite the hard soil and lack of nutrients. Your ears pop a bit as you drive through the hilled areas. There are a lot of houses and a few farms up there but they are spread out and lots of the houses are nestled amongst the trees so you don't really notice them.
Our rivers are a dark brown tea colour when healthy with many tadpoles and much leaf litter on the bottom. The Swan River runs through the land, fed by water from the hills areas. It is prone to eutrophication in Summer because the farms in the hills that use fertiliser leach nutrients into the waterways and it enters the Swan River. This can make the water poisonous and unusable but the Dept. of Environment and Conservation and local counsels are working to stop this. The river is good for fishing, swimming, boating etc. and I've heard rumours of mudcrabs being found in the river (they are normally found in Exmouth... far far North... look at a map).
I want to continue this. This is basically the nature side of WA (specifically the areas I'm most familiar with and like the most). It is amusing that when asked what WA is like I answer with the nature side of it. It's what I know best! Does anyone want to know anything about Perth in other respects: eg. schools, society, music scene etc...?
MyOwnRainCloud Melisciose22 cool pix druid post some more!! 3nodding Pics of what? I do take a lot of photos and would be happy to share... I'll put up some that suit what I've talked about here... What kind of pics do you want?

This is a slideshow I made of a whole bunch of scenery type pix from in and around the Perth areas. Incl: city, hills, reservoir, our city picnic spot (the one with the big rusty statue), Swan River, Rottnest Island, Murdoch uni.
The reservoir is in the hills that I mentioned (there's also pix of the trees and ground etc. one is of the strange mud you get up there...) The dog pix are from an event called The Million Paws Walk which fundraises for the RSPCA The dude on the see-saw is at the reserve with the wetland birds I mentioned The people dressed up are so for a charity event in the city 3 of the pix are the view from Bald Hill- found in the Avon Valley about an hour from Perth The low shrubs around the lake (Lake Baghdad) are from Rottnest and so are the beach pix and the 2 silent road pix There's 1 of me wearing blue glasses at a BBQ at UWA The next bunch are all of my uni as well-various parts of it-duck pond, James Oval, peacocks, Winthrop Hall etc.
Enjoy:
