I liked to watch the old Dr. Who episodes with Jon Pertwee, can't remember the other doctors names right off hand. It was an alright series for me because I'm a Star Trek fan. That show can and does get rediculous alot of times!
One of the new episodes of Dr. Who caught my eye one day while flipping channels though. Something about ghost like creatures and an old house. Sorry, thats the best I can do for info on it.
But it was pretty cool.

Well, I'm glad you liked it, but I don't want my favorite show to become TOO MUCH like your favorite, show, Irahatam. No offense.

I like Star Trek just fine, but I'd like to keep the two separate!

Doctor's Daughter and Silence in the Library (and probably that one on the Tram or Airplane or whatever it is) seem a bit too much like US Sci Fi shows for my taste at this point, anyway. I'm getting a little worried.

If you see Doctor Who acting too much Like Kirk or Archer or Janeway or Piccard, let me know immediately so I can send someone over to Blighty to kick Steffan Moffat's butt, okay?

(PS. Captain Jack doesn't count.)

You know this is supposed to be RTD's last year & it is said Stephen Moffatt will be the new Producer & head Writer?

I've heard that too, but I don't know if it's true.

Yes, it is true, but that's a good thing. Moffat has written some of my favorite episodes. Girl in the fireplace, and (what's the name of that one? the Are You my Mommy one) and this season it was Silence in the library... yeah good stuff. I can't wait for him to take over.
Being from America and being a fan of both Star Trek AND Doctor Who, I can say that I don't want the two shows to become alike either. I'd probably still watch if they did BUT, that doesn't mean I wouldn't miss Doctor Who. I can watch star trek when I wanna see that sort of stuff, and I can watch Doctor Who when I want Who stuff. I would surely miss Doctor Who if it became less Doctor Who ish. xd

And also I send a big squeee to luckygirl who has one of Jessi's bubbling/squishees in her siggy. :herat:

I watched the episode Forest of the Dead last week and (mini spoiler) - Donna made me laugh out loud when she complained 'this isn't my real body - but I've been on a diet!!' Maybe you have to be a certain type of woman to appreciate that!

I really really love Donna. She is my favorite companion. 3nodding

I'm not even going to talk about the season closer. Well ok, I am. HUGE let down after the cliff hanger of the previous week. It was nothing but bad writing. Character arcs are supposed to go somewhere, not back to where they started from. Too m any characters all at once without proper time to develop what's happening to them all, but a nod to each... Stupid plot twists that were a middle finger to characters or fans... The only thing they managed to get right was Davros and Donna's grandfather. Go figure. I"m no longer worried that RTD isn't head writer for this show anymore, I'll tell you that much.

Well, I, for one thing, was glad that they kinda "married off" Rose to that Regeneration Afterbirth Doctor so the Doctor+Rose 'shippers could shut up.

I've got mixed feelings about the Donna Noble character. It's no secret Tate isn't my favorite actress or commedianne, but she dispatched herself well in several of the episodes and I'd pretty much grown to accept her as a decent choice by the series end...

...when they pulled that stupid crap with the Time Lord Brain thing.

I think a little less time could have been spent on that mess and a little more time on the stories of the "children of time" trying to save the Stolen Earth and contact the Doctor.

I did like the crazy prophet, Dalek Caan, though. He talked like a cthulhu cultist and his motivations were just about as whacky.

Oh yeah, and Donna's gramps was my favorite recurring character this season, hands down. He's featured in one of my three favorite scenes from the closer:

Shooting the dalek in the eye stalks with a paint gun. I wish it'd worked.

I also liked the Doctor getting blasted in the middle of his "Heathcliff-Cathaerine" reunion moment with Rose.

And the third, and best scene, was the Daleks flying through the forrests of Germany flushing out the locals with "Exterminaten! Exterminaten!"

Other good bits included Sarah Jane meets Jack Harkness and the Judoon greeting chant.

But mostly, yeah, it was a pretty jumbled fan service mess.

Me and some buds are still gonna get together and watch it again when it's properly TiVoed. I bought some Jelly Babies at costplus to heckle the cheesier parts. We'll probably keep a running scorecard of characters and Dalek Caan's sanity points, too.

Yes, there were some good things about it. German daleks and "Heathcliff" getting shot were awesome. Like RTD said in Confidential, so many movies would be made better if in scenes like that a dalek shot the hero. AMEN!! I suppose you do have a point that the shippers will shut up now, although how that other one came to be was just a bit too contrived. And yeah I'm probably going to watch it again, but I still mourn Donna. it wasn't right what happened to her. It just wasn't.

Well, from a writing point of view, the main thing with what happened to the Donna Noble character that's wrong is that it's a trite cliche and a somewhat cowardly and unsatisfying conclusion to a prophesy.

The cliche is outlined nicely on TV Tropes as something akin to "You Can't Win," a technique used to keep the fictional universe of the series at a constant status quo. So, if, for instance, you get a clone of yourself, that clone dies or gets sent to an alternate dimension. No worries about the character further on down the road.

If you gain superpowers, well, you lose them during the same episode.
That's rather unimaginative thinking and completely groundless in a universe as complicated and potentially interesting as Dr. Who.

There's plenty of crap writers can dredge up to explain continuity errors and plot loopholes when you have a story about a time travelling wonder-meddler who can pop into little tiny pocket universes (capable of holding 27 planets, no less) and even, if he's clever enough, cross forbidden zones and "time locked" areas (if the crazy prophet can do it, the Doctor can, and probably, because of some plot-related hoo-ha, will have to, do it.)

The fact that they narrowly averted this rather awful trope in the Doctor's Daughter and then went and poured a whole bucket of it over our heads with Donna not once, but twice (the entire plot of Turn Left is almost exclusively fueled by the "You Can't Win" trope) is what has left me feeling let down.

I'm sorry to see Donna go, but, honestly, it would have been so much satisfying if THEY'D JUST PLAIN KILLED HER IN A HEROIC FASHION or, better yet, had the doctor grow a new tardis for her or something. It's insulting and unpromising to initimate that human brains "can't handle time lord knowledge." Besides, I like the idea that the Doctor's secretly or subconsciously trying to rebuild his culture. Let's say he starts getting into a program like that and the Dalek's show up again. They'd really make him feel awful about it!

What bothered me wasn't that she couldn't keep what she got from the hand. That would have been a You Can't Win, and it might have been cliche and over done, but what about RTD's writing isn't in one way or another? It wasn't just You Can't Win. Oh no, it was "all the best things of your life just are gone, you get to go back to the hell that we have gone out of our way to point out is clearly good for nothing and worthless. Thanks for saving the universes everywhere. Have a nice day, er or not, since you won't remember anything good about your life and your mum is the way she is." I"m telling you, I would have begged to die rather than lose things I"ve said and done for all eternity. I never know how much is a spoiler and what to make white LOL better safe than sorry?

I did enjoy the last episode, but then I am not very discerning. Captin Jack? The Doctor? And daleks?? Then I'm happy!!

When I heard what the original story was supposed to be, it made much MUCH more sense... I would have not been bitching so loud about the episode then xd

I guess what RTD had wanted was for the Doctor to use the hand, but instead of regenerating but not... it would have been Christopher Eccleston who came back human with the one heart. THAT is the Doctor that Rose fell in love with originally. that is the Doctor that Rose looked into the heart of the TARDIS and almost died for that is the Doctor that gave a regeneration to save Rose. And most importantly THAT would have made much more sense!! However, things had to be reworked when Eccleston said NO. rolleyes
