Clyde shows up in the second storyline. He's a very flawed character, but one who's growth is the easiest to observe. The actor who plays him is absolutely charming in his portrayal of a cocksure lad who's headed for trouble, despite his big heart. Great character, rounds out the cast well.
I'm fond of Maria and Luke as well, to say nothing about Sarah Jane (always been very fond of 'Liz Sladen, I have. And my mom, she's my mom's favorite companion.)
Looking forward to the next showing of Sci Fi, but that comes too close to the Colorado Democratic State Convention. Oh well.

Something in this Friday's SJA kinda freaked me out. Since when does Sarah Jane build weird thrown-together machines like the Doctor does? She was never very technical in the past, and this suggests tech knowledge beyond Earth! Has something happened in early episodes that I missed to explain this? It's cool she's become like the Doctor of Earth in a way--but it's coming out of left field and needs explanation of how she got that high level of tech skill.

I think we're supposed to assume that she's picked up some superscience skills along the way and from her travels with the Doctor, but you're right, it does come out of left field.
I kind of like it, the idea that humans can learn to do some of this alien grimcrackery stuff. She has managed to collect all those weird alien objects, after all, she must be developing some skills.
Here's another idea: once you learn the theory of how something works, you can make a stab at putting it together with the parts at hand. So, if she's gained insight into some secrets about, say, the true nature of energy (like she was constantly seeing with the Doctor) then maybe her dull old human brain can make a crack at it.
But, really, I think they just wanted to have someone on the show build a wifty alien rain machine and Sarah Jane seemed the most likely candidate.
Me, I would have liked them to bring in that Kevin kid from School Reunion. The fat kid who gets credit for blowing up the school. I've been thinking a lot about that character, lately. Fun stuff.

Lil Brat My father loved Dr. Who. I have very vague memories of Pertwee as the esteemed Dr ~ then on to Tom Baker. He was on for quite a few years. I didn't really like the guy after him. I always just liked listening to the English accents. ahhh...i used to watch that doctor as a child..that brings back memories. back when there were only 4 channels and PBS was the best of all of them...

You must be mad... whovian me hasn't been to this thread in a long time. I have to backread before I make a real post... but I haven't been getting around to things like that lately. I love Doctor Who, and I like Donna, she is a ton of fun. I love how she is so outspoken and so human. I especially love how they didn't try to turn on a romantic interest this time. That was really getting old with the new series. There is so much more to Doctor Who than dragging a female around space and time to have her fall in love. I know that I'm in the minority here, but I'm not anxiously awaiting the return of Rose the way others seem to be. I liked the charachter of Rose alot actually, but I think that she had her place in the Doctor's life and now it's done. ...or you wouldn't have come here.

You must be mad... Does anyone else ever wonder what happened to the Doctor's granddaughter? (Susan)
The last episode she was in (Five Doctors obviously must have happened in a time line before the last episode, so I'm not counting that one), she was left on Earth in the future. I assume since she was a blood relation of the Doctor that she might be able to regenerate too, and since she didn't have a TARDIS of her own, she might have still been on earth when her home planet was destroyed. Susan has always been a sort of a loose story thread to me, but perhaps nobody else really cares. lol ...or you wouldn't have come here.

I think she stayed on Earth, married that guy David & had kids. Which would mean there's a little Gallifreyan blood mixed into the Human gene pool from then on.
You all should drop by the Doctor Who Guild & read the THEME-O-RAMA thread by Richard Swift. He's analyzing series 4 episode by episode to pick apart this season's theme arcs & stuff. Fascinating reading! (And he's one of the authors from the published BBC Books novels, it turns out...!)

That's weird, Velouria. I agree with you. eek I don't normally.
But, yeah, Donna Noble isn't as bad as I thought and I am sooooooo releived that there's no strong romantic subplot (there's a niggling little bit of subtext, as if the writers Just Could Not Let It Go, but it's slight, so I don't mind so much.)
Susan supposedly stayed behind on Dalek-controlled Earth-of-the-Future to aid a man she'd fallen in love with in the human resistance... something like that, anyway.
I admit, I've always wanted to find out what happened to Susan, next, but I was always afraid that the Rule of Suck would kick in, so I don't complain too much.
Has the Doctor's Daughter aired yet, where you are? It isn't really about the Doctor's Daughter, it's about a clone, just to let you know.
Spoiler Alert? Sorry, the episode doesn't deserve a spoiler alert. Watch it knowing that she's a clone and you'll feel less like killing somebody.
It came very close to being my least favorite Doctor Who show (they introduce the clone just to kill her off dramatically - man, I hate that crap when I see it on US TV and I hate it worse when Brits, who should know better, pull it.) Fortunately, they pull their punches at the end.

You must be mad... spoiler alert!
yes I've seen it. it airs here today, but we download the episodes after they air there. We don't wait for them to come out here.
You're right about that episode on all accounts. I wish I had known going in that she was a clone.
Also, I"m SICK of them pulling those punches. I can't believe that anyone who dies is going to stay dead. When I couldn't bring myself to cry over the death of Tosh in Torchwood, I knew there was something wrong. A part of me refuses to get suckered in when it's probably going to get taken back again. ...or you wouldn't have come here.

You watch--we haven't seen the last of Jenny. She's a reckless kid basically, racing out into the universe to right wrongs & save the universe when she doesn't KNOW ANYTHING about the universe or have any experience! She's going to be SO naive. Later on, there's going to be a real mess somewhere, and the Doctor's going to find out Jenny caused it. She doesn't have his time-sense, his ability to see all the timestreams and know where and when it's safe to interfere. Genetically she's Gallifreyan, but she isn't a Time Lord--as the Doctor said, there's so much more to it than genetic codes.

I watched the episode Forest of the Dead last week and (mini spoiler) - Donna made me laugh out loud when she complained 'this isn't my real body - but I've been on a diet!!' Maybe you have to be a certain type of woman to appreciate that!
