Jem and the Holograms, for the win. 8D

I remember dueling my mother for the TV when it came on, as it usually was on during one of her favorite soap operas. XD

Not a cartoon, but it is old.

Japanese/Australian/UK viewers might be familiar with this. Not so sure about Americans tho.

Born from an egg on a mountain top
The punkiest monkey that ever popped
He knew every magic trick under the sun
To tease the gods and everyone and have some fun

Monkey magic, monkey magic
Monkey magic, monkey magic
Monkey magic, monkey magic
Monkey magic, monkey magic

Tsuki Chan Sempai
Remember Thunder Cats and Smurfs and old school TMNT?
and Cartoons that taught you stuff about how to be a good human being like Care Bears and Capitan Planet...
And Cartoons that taught you stuff like School House Rock and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego

Fox and ABC had the best cartoons and WB wasn't around yet

Ah man those were the days. I miss those cartoons.
WTF is the ADD crap they're showing to kids these days?
The only things worth watching are the adult targeted shows like Family Guy and such, but it's nothing like the good wholesome cartoons of our youth.

There's Anime but once an american company licenses it gets mutated into so much ADD Crap like the rest of them. Believe it!

So lets all b***h about the crap kids are watching these days and reminisce about the cartoons of our childhood ^^

What was your fav childhood cartoon?

OH THANK GOD FOR THIS THREAD.
I completely agree with the entire...cartoons are no longer remotely intelligent notion. First of all..I think Walt Disney would fire most of the people running his company if he were to spontaneously come back to life for a few hours. I don't know what it is, but a lot of their shows [and Nickelodeon for that matter] have THE worst shows ever! The children on their shows are rude to their parents, authority figures such as school teachers are portrayed as completely idiotic stereotypes, and I wouldn't want my children anywhere near that crap. [Here's where I point out I'm only 21 and I don't have any children and am not married..but GOD I hope children's shows improve by the time that does happen, or I think I'm going to throw my television to the trash..] I can't believe that most people my age and younger have nothing better to talk about than television shows like The Hills, Gossip Girl and Paris Hilton's sex tape. Its disgusting and I pray to all that is holy that society will finally tell them that it's NOT okay to be 17 years olf and a complete slut.
So..
Did anyone else tape Magic School Bus because it was so awesome they wanted to watch it over and over..??? Ah, the innocent yester years.

Takarada Kaoru - Speaking of monkeys that aren't cartoons, I would sometimes catch this show on PBS, Xi You Ji Journey to the West.

What I shared was the 1978 Saiyuuki (Japanese name for Journey to the West) series. It was the very first TV adaptation of the story. It's pretty good. You folks might be able to find the UK dub (under the name "Monkey") on the Internet if you don't live in the UK or Australia.

Believe it or not, the Japanese were the very first to adapt the story for television.

The old Super Mario cartoon that had that once a week episode of Legend of Zelda in it. That I loved. Anyone remember Captain N: The Game Master?

Back in the days, those cartoons were fun to watch. Now, all the anime cartoons are people with dramatic hair styles and sour attitudes. Very uninteresting. I'm raising my kids to watch the cartoons I watched as a young lad.

They've already been mentioned... but they hold a soft spot in my heart
Jem
Care Bears
Gummi Bears
Beverly Hills Teens (damn that Bianca!)
Fraggle Rock (yes, it was animated for a sort time)
She-ra, Princess of Power
He-man (because he was her brother)
My Little Pony (if you were a girl of the 80's... this was your staple!)
Alvin & the Chipmunks
Strawberry Shortcake (I am the Peculiar Pieman from Porcupine Peak!)

& Tail Spin, hell... I'll even put down Doug... because his sister Judy cracked me up.

Nowdays, I don't know what they're doing to cartoons... but vomit has a more inticing color!

When I have kids... they're watching the old stuff. The staples of my youth... because who knows what sort of mind numbing, emotion bleeding, attitude warping useless dribble they'll be producing come that time.

And I didn't tape Magic School Bus... but I still have Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite on VHS (remember those???) *sigh*
