  "It would seem someone has gathered access to our prior projects and putting it to use in this... universe? Is that what we're calling this place?" said Norman.
"Not exactly my field of expertise," replied Otto. "Why would someone want the details about our projects? Everyone knows all to well the outcomes of both of our dreams."
"That's what concerns me."
They both turned their head when they heard the doors to the laboratory swing open and saw a young woman stepped through, a pile of paperwork and folders in her arms.
"I finally was able to find the paperwork you wanting, Mr-" she said, flipping through the paperwork before looking up and seeing the men before her. "Oh. Um... hello. You're not who I was expecting."
"And who are you?" asked Norman.
"A friend," she replied.
"Friend? Friend of who?"
"I was trying to keep it simple," she muttered under her breath as she stepped forward and set the paperwork down on a table near her. She then looked at them folding her arms in a casual manner. "Essentially I'm a friend of a friend of a friend who happens to work in this department. Someone who has become fascinated with the work of Oscorp and the projects developed under the name."
"But how can that be? Oscorp technically doesn't even exist in this universe," blurted out Norman.
"No... but they've got individuals in their connections who are familiar with other universes and dimensions and the like. And the name has caught the interest of a few curious folks," she replied.
"And you?" asked Otto, finding himself gravitating towards the paperwork to look through it.
"Me?" She laughed half-heartedly. "Like I said - friend of a friend of a friend. Though after how this day's going, friend is probably being too personal."
"So, you don't work here?" asked Norman.
"No. But I can appreciate the concepts explored. Especially the ones that have been dug up with the Oscorp stuff."
"Like my mechanical arms," whispered Otto, under his breath as he pulled a printed copy of the schematics of his machines.
"Hello Dr. Octavius," she said, smiling at him and then glancing over at Norman. "And, of course, it's pleasure meeting you too, Mr. Osborn."
"So, what exactly does your 'friend' want with our plans?" asked Otto.
"That's what I would like to know too," she replied. "It's the whole reason why I agreed to join them today. To see what they were up to. But instead they left me to do a bunch of file diving and they went off to who knows well."
"You seem concerned," said Norman.
"I am. They are the sort of person who could easily get ensnared by the trap of power and not thinking responsibly on what the consequences would be should something go wrong."

 She winced as the pinpoint needles of the mechanical spine brace inserted through her skin and connected to her nervous system. With her eyes closed, she tried to adjust to the new sensations that was coursing through her - the coldness of the machinery against her skin, the new weight upon her back, and the strange pull from the back of her thoughts.
"Intriguing."
She opened her eyes and glanced over to see Otto watching her with both curiosity and concern.
"Meet your expectations, Doc?" she asked, pushing herself onto her feet. She noticed the mechanical arms moving with her subconscious thoughts of maintaining her balance as she stood up.
"It's clearly received some improvements and recalibrations," he said, gently reaching out to brace her arm. "Otherwise... it definitely is my design. Are you feeling?"
"Aside from being upset with my so-called 'friend' turning me into one of their experiment guinea pigs?" she replied. "Okay, I suppose."
"It'll be an adjustment, I'm sure. But you're intelligent. You'll adapt just as quickly as I did."
"Now," Otto continued, his mechanical arms maneuvering him away from her and towards the edge of the building. "We have some business to take care of."
"What exactly do you expect me to do?"
"You've seen what I am capable of. You now have the ability to do the same." |
