The Deep Space 9 episode Explorers in season 3

Sisko returns from a trip to Bajor with the blueprint for an ancient space vessel that operates like a sailboat, using solar pressure for propulsion. According to legend, the Bajorans used these ships to explore their star system 800 years ago, even going as far as Cardassia. Sisko decides to build one himself to see if this was possible, and painstakingly recreates the vessel, determined to prove the design was spaceworthy. He hopes to have Jake join him on the adventure.

After the ship is thrown free of the invisible current, Sisko discovers he has no idea where they are, and fears the eddy, composed of faster-than-light tachyons, has carried their vessel light years away. Suddenly, Gul Dukat informs the two that they have entered Cardassian space. As Sisko and Jake realize they just proved the same thing could have happened 800 years ago, Dukat reluctantly congratulates them on recreating the journey of ancient Bajoran explorers who did successfully reach Cardassia then, and welcomes the two with a stellar fireworks display.

Only modern tech they had was a subspace transiever

CORRECT!
Although the ship also had a gravity net. (Which saved money on special
effects, having it simulate standard gravity...)

true, I just rewatched the episode last night too.

time for a question of my own:

Ah, is that question answered in an episode of one of the live series,
or in a movie?
I reiterate the rules from the first post:

Steel Sterling
Thanks kindly.

Ok, for now, a review of the rules.
These should be the same rules as before, more or less.
(If I left out something, tell me and I'll edit.)
In no particular order....

A) No more than 2 questions at a time.
Otherwise, the thread gets confusing.
Once an answer has been confirmed as correct, or has been
"assimilated" (answered by the asker, thus closing it out),
a slot has been freed up for the next question.

B) Once a question has been answered, please do not re-answer it,
especially once we've moved on a few pages.

C) Please quote the question you're answering in the answer.
(This makes it easier for everyone to follow the questions and
answers.) Please quote the answer when you're confirming it's
correct.

D) Question subjects:
A question must be "fair". "Fair" is defined, for this thread, as
follows:
The answer must be one that a normal human could reasonably be
expected to remember from a normal viewing of the episode or
movie, so long as he was paying attention. If it requires slow tracking,
rewinding, or freezeframing, it is not "fair".
Furthermore, I shall repeat: it must be from an episode or movie.
If it was from any other source, it is not "fair".
(This includes a book based on an episode-if the question is on something
that was not in the episode, but was in the book, it is not "fair".)

E) With each question, give some indication of the "edition" of Trek
it refers to. If it would spoil the question to give the specific version
(Voyager, DS9) or movie (#5, #6), give some indication that at least
limits the question somewhat. Does it pertain to the original crew from
the Original Series? How about the NextGen crew?

F) Each question should have a definite answer, not an opinion.
Thus, "Which Captain grew a beard and shaved his head?" is a fair
question, but "Which is the best Captain?" is not.

G) "The First Duty of any Starfleet Officer is to the truth."
We are on the Honor System here.
The person asking the question may-and SHOULD-look up the answer
to confirm it, or before counting an answer wrong. (There may be
more than one correct answer, or the question may be wrong,
and the answer may correct it.)

No person who is trying to answer a trivia question may look up the
answer in any way (including asking someone else the answer.)
The sole exception to this is "the whims of fate":
if a question is asked, and the episode or movie in question just happens
to appear on a tv broadcast, it is acceptable to watch it, then answer.
(No other incident will qualify-if you have it on tape, that would be
cheating.)
If you saw the episode BEFORE reading the question, for any reason,
that is also acceptable, and falls under "the whims of fate".

If you MUST look up the answer or go mad, and you find it, you must
excuse yourself from answering the question.

H) It's only a game. Dont go nuts over it. We're not even keeping score.
Be polite to each other.

I) If you break a rule, anyone may prompt you-NICELY.
Consider what they say-NICELY.
If a crewmember-noncom or officer-gives you a warning, heed it.
You may attempt a VERY polite appeal from a different one.
If you do not heed the crew, you run the risk of being jabbed with
a painstick. xd

J) You may not complain how long-winded the rules have gotten-
the new phrasing is based on past groundrules. smile

K) If you know all the answers, try to give the others a shot at them.
If you're a real trivia whiz, give them TWO (2) days, 48 hours.
If your question has not been answered within 7 days,
please assimilate it, and give the answer.

it's from star Trek the animated series, but I'll change my question since many people might not have seen it.

To answer the other one, it is from the second episode entitled Yesteryear in whish Spock goes to his child hood to save himself, the pet is named Ichia and it is a saylot

What was different about the birth of Obrien's two kids vs the birth of a normal human birth?

That's why the animated series ("TAS") isn't included in this thread.
I'm hoping they DO finally bend and release a box-set of them, however.
As someone pointed out, 3 years of live action plus 2 years of
TAS makes 1 five-year mission. smile

I figured that was the episode.
The Star Trek Chronology follows Roddenberry's rule that TAS was not
canonical, EXCEPT for the episode "Yesteryear", which is the ONLY
source for Spock's childhood,
plus it fits within the rest of the chronology,
plus it was written by DC Fontana, who wrote many episodes of
the live series.

Interesting question.
Let's see who chimes in. smile

One quick thing before I answer - it's sehlat, not saylot - though you do have the pronounication right. Read Pathways, or just turn the captions on during a Vulcan-themed episode.

Molly O'Brien was born on the Enterprise-D during a power blackout by none other than our lovable lieutenant (at the time) Worf.

Kirayoshi O'Brien (aka Yoshi), due to complications early on, was carried for most of his term by Kira Nerys, the Bajoran Militia liasion and XO for DS9. His birth was a tradition Bajoran birth, as was asked for by Nerys.

That what you were looking for? 4laugh

No prob...it helps when Ent's The Forge was on about a week ago.... sweatdrop Anyway, this is probably an easy question, but....

Who had what animal for their spirit guide on Voyager? (Hint: Only three were ever known in the show....)

I barely ever saw Voyager.
However, I know Janeway's guide was that little pocket-size lizard.

yea, Janeway's was the lizard, Chacotay never told us his but i think we might have seen it in an episode. B'lanna's I can't remember, I just know she attacked it once and it never returned to her.

Mmkay...I give you guys the answer...I just realized I think I might have pulled from the books more for Chakotay's... sweatdrop ...I've seen the entire Voy series and I've read all the books, so sometimes they kinda blend together....

Kathryn's was indeed a little gecko-like lizard...which she found not-so-amusing....

Chakotay's was a female doe (that's kinda repeptitive, ain't it? lol) - though most aren't given genders, he got the impression that his was a female....

B'Elanna's was a bear - a black one, I believe, but a bear nonetheless. To quote Chakotay, "B'Elanna's the only person I know that's ever attacked her spirit guide." ...well...it's B'Ela! Duh....

'kay, a turn for one of you guys. But just curious, you think anyone would be interested in a trivia thread for the books? Seeing as how this one is for the movies/series, I would love to start one for the books, but I don't know how well it would go over....

I can't guarantee attendance.
Heck-I barely get responses to the trivia thread from the shows....
