makeria1 I've read one or two that I liked, but like anything it completely depends on how the story is written, how believable it is (obviously taking the setting into account). I find though, that a lot of mpregs are done poorly. People like the idea but don't (or don't know how to) develop it. The story gets half done, or finished and half-assed. I don't mid the idea, but I hate the trend if that makes sense. People like the idea, want to write one, but have no idea what to do with it. So they write the bare minimum to get the 'plot' out and don't focus on writing a good story. of course that can be said for any trend in fanfiction. I agree with you, completely. I grow more and more disgusted with writers, as a whole, every time that I look into fanfiction. (Sorry, but, the Joker is not going to get pregnant out of thin air!) Mpreg is, sadly, greatly over-done, and the quality is often so poor... Yaoi and slash are the same way. It drives me crazy. While I encourage young writers (on a daily basis, mind you) to develop their writing, some people should never touch pen to paper. ><. I adore Mpreg, and several of my fanfictions involve the same. I have two novels in which men get pregnant, and I have two on-going role plays based on the subject. It works for me, and for my partners and I, because we take the time to develop the stories, and to explain the details. We have had many discussions about how other stories could work, if the writers took the time to go into detail. I am about to quit searching for good fanfiction. Please, please, please, I just want to come across one decent, well-developed Mpreg story this year. Rekindle my hopes. ><.

I can't read a terrible story period. :[ It frustrates me to read new-writers stories most of the time. Male-preg is... acceptable, under certain circumstances. For instance: Naruto can use sexy-no-jutsu to transform into a woman. If he was with a man... That would work, no? Or other slight odds. But only with a pairing I absolutely love will I read it. :]

Honestly? If I read a fanfic and then one of the guys finds out that they're pregnant... I just stop reading altogether. It's hard to believe and take seriously, since men do not have wombs so it's impossible for a baby to survive in a male.
And if a guy gets pregnant in a fanfic, they are no longer male, IMO. So technically, it would no longer be a yaoi/shounen ai fanfic. neutral

This is one area that I can really like or hate. I think it's cute, but only done in the right way.
I, write original fiction, and am planning to get my latest published after many years of writing others. This one is of a gay couple. It's kind of fantasy/supernatural/paranormal. The younger male is of a race made by Greek Gods, last of his kind. He is Mated to a werewolf, one of the lesser species on Earth because they have an attraction.
The barriers they have to overcome are: - The fact they are teacher and pupil - Age different - Power difference - Their relationship - The media - And pregnancy
Being the last of his kind and gay, he has to have some way to carry on the line or the Main God is weakened greatly.
I agree with Mpreg when it is necessary.

You know, Mpreg kind of defeats the purpose of yaoi to me. Women have the parts to carry babies, and the second a man does... he may as well just BE a woman. I see no purpose to it.
So no, I have never liked it nor will I ever. If I want to read about a character having babies (which interests me little to begin with) I'll just find a straight couple. If I want to watch a gay pair to take care of a child, adoption will do.

I do not like Mpreg. I love reading yaois but I would rather the author stick to some other method. Like surrogate mothers or adoption.

It doesn't matter whether it's well written or not, mpreg is just boring for me. It seems like some people find it adorable for ships like SasuNaru to have little SasuNaru babies, but it's just dumb for me. Like, come on! Besides that it's unnatural it's a boring subject, although the birth probably would be pretty interesting. Hmm.
Still, mpreg is just wierd to me. Whatever.

I don't get the attraction with mpreg.. Guess i never did get how it would work, a guy being pregnent and all.. "It just does" doesn't do it for me.
But if that's your thing, than go for it 3nodding

I figured I might as well reply, being one of the (apparently) few fans of mpreg. I agree with a lot of the people here. Most of the time Mpregs are poorly written, and just happened because the author wants their characters to have babies. In this case, I tend not to like them.
The ones that I totally adore, and spend hours upon hours looking for, are the ones were it was a total accident. I personally love seeing the character trying to cope with it, and greatly enjoy trying to see the author's logic in why the characters got pregnant. (and yes, I have seen some fairly decent explanations) and thinking about how the baby is born. (I'm all for giving the poor lad a c-section. Cause I don't think the baby is coming out the same way it got in... ) And really it's hard to explain why I like it. So... yeah... -shrugs-

Why yes, I DO like Mpreg.
Hell, I've written it. Yellow Roses, Promises and Lies, The Book's Deepest Secret, What is and What Should Be...all from my crazy, fecked up imagination.
However, mortal, normal men do NOT have babies. All the subjects in my mpreg stories are either witches, magically inclined, not human or from another world. Problem solved. It's potions, it's other-worldly birth order and culture, it's ancestery spells gone terribly, terribly wrong (That one was my personal favorite, because it was the most logical.)
Also, the series in general is nitpicky for me. Just because there's magic doesn't mean it should happen. I do NOTNOTNOT want to see X Mpreg. Subaru is the single most unmaternal man CLAMP has ever created. And Kamui? Sure, it could be cute, but either it's from Fuma!rape daddy or Angsty!Subaru daddy, so...no! no!
I also don't want to see shonen mpreg. No one in Naruto should be pregnant. Ew. My favorite mpreg pairings are ones where "mummy" is already a total uke in the first place.
BUT just like with EVERY other kink and genre, there's a lot of crap to dig through to find a good one, I agree there.

scruffynekochi Myrg. I'm not fond of it. Kids kind of ruin any relationship though stare I did read this one where this guy got preggers and had tiger cubs. It was kind of cute once you got past the fact that the guy was pregnant with non-human life forms. Never again, I think.
I think I read that. Tentacles For The Bride's Bouquet?
