"Don't touch me." Iago snapped, not looking at her. He broke away from her touch, and began to slowly circle her, looking over.
"What you did instead destroyed my reputation, Jocelyn." he said, the anger evident in his voice.
"You overstep your position, for one. We are not married, Jocelyn. Here you are a visitor. And yet you think you can do what you please?" he asked, still circling.
"But that's not the worst of it. And neither is the fact that you took an innocent woman and whipped her in public. And it isn't the fact that now my best armourer is out of commission on the day I need her the most." he said, stopping and facing her.
"No. The fact is that you whipped a woman in public, IN MY NAME!" he shouted the last part.
"Never have I been so disgraced in my life, Jocelyn! My people KNOW I would never do anything like that. And here you go and whip people because you THINK they might be getting too close?" he asked, still in a loud tone.
"I won't have it!" he said. "I am appalled. And I am stunned. You are not who I thought you were, Jocelyn." he said, glaring into her eyes.

Jocelyn stared at him open mouthed. No one ever spoke to her in such a rough manner and she would not stand for it. She stood her ground and stamped her foot on the ground, it didn't have the effect she had hoped for being that she didn't stamp that hard in the first place.

"Do not shout at me Iago! I have done nothing wrong! Now all the women in the village know you belong to me and will not DARE get close to you....this was a warning to the public as well as a lesson taught to that forge girl. She will never do that again, you should rejoice....you never have to bother with that girl again. With the way I wield the whip, I am able to cleave flesh from bone...." Jocelyn prided herself with her skills and kept her eyes narrowed in a glare.

"You WILL appologize to me Iago...I will not have you yelling at me and insulting me in public!" Jocelyn raised her own voice to match his.

"I will not!" Iago said forcefully. He was not going to step down. "What you have done, Jocelyn, is show that you would rather rule with an iron fist, whipping anyone you please. I cannot let that stand!" he said, still loudly.
"Not only that, but do you know how much you've changed in my eyes?" he asked. A lot, but not for the reasons I'm saying. "I thought you to be a sweet and loving girl-" Not "-Jocelyn, not someone who would whip innocent civilians on a whim." he said.
"The wedding is off for the time being. You are to cool down. Be thankful I don't send you to prison for this, because I don't know if you remember, but this is MY kingdom." he said.
"You may also want to know that I ride to war tonight. You should hope that they have a decent armourer there, or that my armour holds, because now that my armourer is lying half-dead in the medical ward, I cannot get it repaired. Also...don't think for one moment that we'll bed tonight. I can't even stand the sight of you anymore." he said in a deadly growl.

Jocelyn screamed in outrage at his stupidity and stomped her foot once more. Why was he being so stubborn over a stupid forge girl? That woman didn't even mean anything to her in the first place! He made no sense and it was very irritating.

"If you do not rule with an iron fist such as mine then you have no rule over your commoners. They will eat you alive if you do not show them who runs the kingdom and who rules. As for YOUR kingdom," Jocelyn spat the word. "It won't be just your kingdom for long. You can avoid me for as long as you like Iago DARLING, but your father is already helping me arrange marriage plans. He will not let you back away from this." Jocelyn flipped her hair over her shoulder and exhaled sharply.

"I do not know what is wrong with you....it is as if you are in love with that forge woman. If that is to be true....she's as good as dead I hope you know." Jocelyn threatened in a low, menacing voice. "Run away to your petty war Iago...but when you return...you'd better be ready to say I Do."

"This is not about Evie!" Iago shouted. He had to restrain himself from slapping her across the face.
"This is about how you disgraced me in public and shattered my image!" he yelled. "I have been known to be a fair but stern prince. If justice was needed it was delivered, after FAIR TRIAL!" he shouted.
"What you have done is shown that I CAN be walked over! You disregarded my authority and went behind my back to do something I would never do!" he shouted. "And you attached MY name to it!" he added. It was taking a considerable amount of self-control to not slap her.
"I am not in love with Evie-" it was a total lie, but thanks to his fury, it came out as looking like the truth "-and if you insinuate that again, you will regret it. As will you if you lay a hand on her, or any other villager again." he warned. "You may think her to be as good as dead, but should you harm her, or harm anyone else, you will rot in the dungeons, if I let you live. I will not let my ruling be undermined by some princess who thinks she can come in, take me by the neck, and control me!" he shouted the last part.

Jocelyn crossed her arms over her chest and listened to him rant on and on about being 'fair' and 'just' when he needed to be. Did he not understand anything about ruling a kingdom efficiently? It was no wonder his kingdom was going to hell. She shook her head and laughed outwardly at him.

"You are so ignorant Iago...you cannot truly believe that you can rule over a bunch of...vagabonds and beggars by being fair? They will not listen to you if you do not shake them up a bit and I'd say this event shook them ALL up. And good riddance....they were getting on my nerves with all their begging." Jocelyn wrinkled her delicate nose as if she smelled something foul.

"Yes I put your name on her back....now she will never forget and neither will anyone else. Your name will not strike fear into their useless hearts. You should really be thanking me for doing something you would never have the courage to do. And for the record love, I can control you...I have the fate of your kingdom hanging by a thread that I can very easily sever."

That was it. Iago couldn't take it anymore. "My kingdom...MY kingdom, is MINE to control! If you do not like how I do it, LEAVE!" he roared. At the mention of him not having courage, and her controlling him, he drew his dagger, pressing the sharp, cold steel to her neck, a deadly gleam in his eyes.
"If you think you have control over me, you are sorely mistaken." he said in a deadly whisper. "Don't move. I have killed ten men already, and it wouldn't pain me to kill you, too." he added.
"Now, listen to me, and listen to me very closely, alright? You are not to lay a hand on any other villager here. You are not to undermine my authority again. You are not to authorize the jailing or whipping of anyone, including prisoners of war. This marriage is off until you can prove to me that you can be the woman I thought I had been falling for...a sweet and caring young woman." he said.
"Do I make myself clear?" he asked with a deadly, cold slowness.

A gasp escaped Jocelyn's lips when she'd felt the cold steel of his dagger press against the soft flesh of her throat. Would he really kill her? He did not seem the type and if he did then he would have to deal with his father and her father as well....there would be consequences for sure.

"You are weak Iago...and you will never amount to anything in this fashion." Jocelyn whispered. "You will come crawling to me for my guidance and I will not give it to you. I will oblige to your rules and not undermine your so sought after authority. You have my word." Jocelyn had that defiant look in her eye that she'd been born with but her word was her word.

A smile spread across her lips, he could do whatever he wished. "You love her." She whispered.

Satisfied, Iago pulled his dagger away. He could see the mark he'd left on her neck. No blood had been drawn, but it was clear it was pressed there. The mark started to fade as he laughed.
"Me, in love with a commoner?" he repeated. Yes, I do love her, because she is more of a princess than you'll ever be he thought to himself as he closed his eyes and laughed some more.
"I only hold her as a friend and a trusted ally, no more. She is also the best at what she does. That is all. My heart did lie with yours, however, from what I've seen, I may have to take it back and give it to someone more worthy." he told her.

"That is not what I mean Iago and you know it as well as I. You are in love with that forge girl...deeply....madly....I can see it in your eyes when you two meet. I am not as stupid as you believe me to be Iago. You cannot believe that I am a fool because though I may be cruel at times....I am not stupid or blind." Jocelyn put her hands on her hips and regarded him. What did he see in that forge girl that she did not have? She was rich...and smart....and beautiful. She truly was everything that forge girl wasn't and more.

"Do not fool yourself, you will not turn your heart away from me. Even you are not stupid enough to try that."

"You really are a fool, Jocelyn." Iago said, shaking his head. "You are delusional." he said.
"First off, I could never love someone as plain as her-" actually, that's why I love her so "-and, being a commoner, it would be impossible for me to have a relationship with her, and I know that. Finally, you are everything she isn't. Why would I let that go?" he asked.
"The only reason I would let you go, and trust me, I would, is because I do not want someone who wishes to control me and my kingdom, and to oppress my people. If that is what you are truly like, then pack your things and leave this castle." he ordered.

"Say whatever you wish....one day I will catch the two of you kissing or hugging and then I will rub it in your face. You better be careful Iago....or you will sorely regret it, not only will you have trouble from it but that forge girl really WILL be dead for what she's done." Jocelyn waved a hand at him dismissively.

"Don't you have a war to go to or something? I thought you couldn't stand being around me." Jocelyn looked at him directly in his eyes. I know you love her.

"I have time." Iago said truthfully. But before he left...
"By the way..." he pulled his dagger halfway out of his pants again. "Was that a threat, Jocelyn?" he asked slowly. "A threat against me, and against my people...that's treason, Jocelyn. That better not have been what I heard." he said. Of course, if she threatened him again, she would find his guards at her door. But not just any guards...his Vanguard. His elite guards.

Jocelyn didn't answer him and walked to another part of the room and pretended to fix her hair in the mirror. He was being stubborn was all, after a night with her...she'd change that unwilling side of him. It was only time against them....she would have her Prince and then she would be Queen. All she needed to do was be patient.

"Goodbye Iago. Do me a favor and don't die hmm?" Jocelyn was extremely sarcastic in her remark.

"Of course." Iago said. On a whim, he walked over to her, and the key that had been left on her table.
"By the way..." he said, picking up the key.
"For all you have done to me...the disgrace, the assault of my villagers, and the threats against me..." he looked at her with an evil grin. "As well as insinuating my being unfaithful...you are now to be kept under lock and key. I will leave this with a door guard. Should you wish to leave, you will knock, and he will escort you. Food will be brought. This will last until I am gone." he said, leaving the room. Before he left, he turned his head back toward her. "I was falling, Jocelyn. But you changed that with one mistake. Good night." he told her. He left and locked the door, and called on a guard walking down the hall to fetch a member of the Vanguard, who arrived within minutes. Iago handed over the key to Jocelyn's room and gave him instructions. That done, he unlocked his tower and quickly locked it behind him, climbing toward his room.
