She hesitated for a moment before following Daryl and the others through the rusted gates. She paused as they came face to face with two women - one darker skin with her braided hair hanging in front of one half of her face, a sheathed katana on her back, and the other with a challenging fire in her eyes.
"Who is this?" asked the latter.
"She's cool," replied Daryl.
"We can't keep doing this, Daryl," muttered the other woman, ice seeming to cover every word.
"I'm aware of what's happened in the past with the previous people we've let in," retorted Daryl. "But if I say she's cool, she's cool."
"On what grounds?" asked the fair woman.
"Fine," said the dark woman. "But if anything goes south, the blood will be on your hands."
Lillian found herself gazing around the nearby area, feeling uncomfortable with the situation she was finding herself in. She was starting to think it wasn't a good idea to come to this place after all. It wasn't until she saw the twinkling brown eyes gazing up at her through the barred basement window that her concerns were dashed away.
"Well, it appears Daryl is vouching for you," said the fair woman, bringing Lillian's attention back to situation in front of her. "I am Maggie. And this is Michonne. I'm sure you'll learn the others' names over time. If you have any questions or concerns, don't be afraid to come to either of us."
"Thank you for having me," replied Lillian.
The corner of Michonne's mouth lifted slightly in a smile before the two ladies turned and walked away. Daryl stayed briefly behind with Lillian as the others followed the ladies.
"Don't mind them," said Daryl. "Trust has become a major factor for them lately."
"Understandable," replied Lillian.
Daryl nodded before leaving himself. Once she was certain the others were far enough away, a big, teasing smile appeared on her face as she turned to look at the face gazing up at her through the window.
"Well, s**t, Negan, who put you in the doghouse?" teased Lillian.
"My bad boy tendencies caught up with me. You know what sort of s**t I was into," he replied.
"LANGUAGE!"
Lillian jumped, turning to look at the source of the young girl who gazed up at her with a frown.
"Sorry," said Lillian, shocked to see the girl.
"Sorry, kiddo," added Negan.
Lillian briefly glanced at Negan hearing the tone of endearment in the brief exchange.
"Who are you?" asked the girl. "Do you know Negan?"
"Just full of questions today, aren't we, Miss Grimes?" teased Negan.
"Well, if she's going to be staying with us, I would like to know who she is."
"Grimes?" echoed Lillian, turning her attention back to Negan.
"Forgive me," said Negan, smirking. "Where are my manners? Judith, this is Lillian. Lillian, this is Judith. Rick Grimes' daughter."
"She's..." said Lillian, before turning to look back at Judith. "You're Rick's daughter?"
"Yeah, what of it?" challenged the girl.
Lillian kneeled down before her. "I hear it was quite the man. It's not too often you find a man worthy of putting up an equal challenge to Negan over there. Well..." She turned to look at Negan with teasing eyes. "When's he not locked up, that is."
"Momma don't like him," said Judith. "And neither does Aunt Maggie."
"I can't say I blame them," admitted Negan. |
