you must not listen to slayer, or much black metal
Slayer's career span is exactly symbolic of a Viagra abuser's erection history- starts out hard, but just goes completely flaccid after about 10 years. Nowadays, Slayer sucks. Tom Araya's voice is awful, of course, it always has been. All that Kerry King does is play random notes. Slayer started out with him not knowing one scale.
Black metal is just s**t. Singing about Satan does not constitute "brutal", it constitutes "overplayed assholes that all look and sound the same".
Dir en grey's album, The Marrow of a Bone, has many things that Slayer and black metal do not, listed here:
-Good production quality
-Variety of keys (all of Slayer's Reign In Blood is in the same key)
-Bass playing that you can actually hear
-Varied drum beats
-A talented vocalist with a vocal range rivaling 1990 Chris Cornell
-Varied subject matter
-Complex time signatures
-Songs that aren't just meant to thrash around like a diseased monkey to
-Polyphonic guitar playing
Don't EVER say that a bunch of drunks like Slayer or a bunch of metal-in-a-tin-can halfwits like the black metal scene are anywhere NEAR the genius of Dir en grey.
and i can't agree with that black metal part though
but i am not saying dir en grey isn't bad
Anthrax is better than Slayer, and they're thrash too. Megadeth and Testament are also far superior.
Venom is the only black metal worth listening to, considering the genre spawned from their album of the same title.
you don't like mayhem(not the new singer like in grand declaration of war...he jsut speaks really) or kalmah?
No... I had a phase where I searched for black-metal that I liked, and that's the reason why there's no black-metal in my collection to this day.
Doom metal is far superior, but a lot of it lacks a particular "brutal" quality.
