Gaijin32 A pugio? Some kind of Roman dagger? I'm not familiar with all the old Roman weapons. It's a moderately long Roman dagger. The blade is around a foot long, about an inch and a quarter wideat the widest point. It is narrower at the base, widens slightly then narrows to a point. There are also shorter, wider Roman daggers with a more triangular blade but I don't have one of them.

I never really felt a persona that seemed right to me...my excuse is that I fall into acting like other people all the time, and that instead of adapting a new person to my garb, I just shift my frame of mind back several hundred years....if that makes sense.

My name registered on SCA (inactivly) is Ariel of the Mists, Yes the very mists that started SCA, I got the last name from my mom who joined somewhat soon after the Organization was formed. (My only claim to fame really ninja if it is that)
I don't have an era nor a history, or even an arms (They kept refusing mine)

so far i've only been playing around with my name. i haven't gotten as far as what time period my persona is from, or the personal history. my first name is Rosemary, and even though it's an english name, i want to be from Ireland. That shouldn't be too much of a problem though, since the countries are so close together and had a lot of contact with one another. The problem is my surname. I've been tossing around quite a few, but two are sticking out the most to me. o Mordha (in current time is spelled Moore), or Bodkin. fortunately for me, picking one of them will tell me where specifically in Ireland my persona will come from. so.... Rosemary o Mordha, or Rosemary Bodkin.... which sounds better? anybody?

I know just enough about the Irish language to know that I will likely never be able to pronounce it correctly from a cold reading. So if you don't mind...how does one pronounce 'o Mordha,' anyway? neutral

I'd have to give the name Mordha the nod. It's pretty, and not something you hear every day, even in the Society. mrgreen

Elanor Satsujin Mwror, I have yet to create a persona. I keep having trouble with it... If anyone could help with it, I'd greatly appreciate it... sweatdrop I just can't ever make up my mind on what I'd like to be/come from/blah... *siiiigh* I have a device, clothes, but no person... sweatdrop When I started playing in the SCA and was trying to come up with a persona, I went to the SCA.org page and went to the heraldry section and started browsing the links they have there. I started browsing through the lists of English female names--not because I wanted an English persona, necessarily, but it was a place to start, and I knew I'd at least be able to *pronounce* most of them. Didn't take me long to spot 'Alyna', and I was hooked. Because Alyna was a name I've been known to use for roleplay characters. I thought I'd made it up. wink Turns out it can be traced back to 13th or 14th (I can never remember! *lol*) century England, as an alternate spelling for Aline, or something like that. I still haven't gotten around to actually registering my name formally, but the persona I came up with is Alyna of Four Pines Hyll. The locative surname is based on my back yard. I was looking out the window trying to think of a good name, after reading about how locative names worked, and suddenly realized I had some distinctive landmarks. Four pine trees, on a hill. smile Viola! I don't let the fact that my name is that of a 13th or 14th century Englishwoman stop me from enjoying the diversity that comes with 1000 years of european history, though. In fact, my preferred garb these days is all in an Italian rennaissance style! My first garb was middle eastern. My second outfit was scottish. I also have roman and celtic garb... a big variety. I wear what I want to wear. That's why we call it 'Creative Anachronism'. smile

I'm still working mine to death. What I have figured out is the general vicinity and name, and possibly occupation.
Meet Constantia.
She's a sixth century Byzantine woman from Constantinople, under the reign of Justinian and Theodora. Chances are, she's upper-middle class, due to birth. And she's single (which means that I must get my fiance involved. Hee hee hee).
And that's all I've got figured out. I do toy with twelfth century France and England (England especially), and considering I found this amazingly gorgeous cloth at Walmart the other day... *grin*
Now, to get a sewing machine, and figuring out if I really want to be a landed noble....
