Jon of the Dead Well for myself Id have to say its because I grew up on Voltron and Old, old school Transformers... Also was and still will always be a die hard Ninja Turtles fan and.... TMNT -> Love of the Ninja -> Love of awsome asian exports -> Love of good anime... Also my favorite game as a kid was Chrono Trigger and the characters were all desighned by the guy who created DragonBall... Which old old transformers? G1 or G2 because G1 was purely american made. And you mean Akira Toriyama?

I can see how there would be quite a few goths interested in anime, due to it being a fairly artistic (though a lot of styles are rehashed) medium, but otherwise I still wouldn't be convinced that that many goths are into anime.
As for me, I only have a passing interest in anime; mostly just Cowboy Beebop and Trigun.

sasorixd99 there are a bunch of gothic animes like vampire hunter d and hellsing Hellsing isn't gothic (genre), though Vampire Hunter D is. The best gothic (genre) anime I've ever seen is the absolutely oustanding OVA, "Le Portrait du Petite Cossette". Only three episodes long, but it's unbelievably good.

Anyway, gothic anime? HA! true most anime from the 80's or early 90's, whilst not embroiled in goth culture in terms of design work there are more then obvious influences.

For me, Robotech was my first true love of robots, I still want a varitech, if we got them, I would cut my hair and join the airforce just to pilot one. biggrin Though you can't go wrong with a little bit of Gundam, though for realistic mech's (thats right, mech's, I'm not japanese so don't need to call it 'mecha') Patlabor is the best.

The_Angry_Fatalist Ok well, i've noticed that 99.9% of goth and emos have interest in manga or anime (yeah, this may be an Ironic question I understand that this site is anime based, but im talking about other sites too), but what is the reason for that? Is there a certain relation between goth and anime? no, i dont think so. i just find anime/manga easiest to draw....

I do like anime and manga, but no where near to the extent I have seen many of my peers enjoying it.

For those wondering about what I mean by Manga UK targeting metallers (and always have done) heres some links to trailers. Remember kids, 80% of all translations were done by this little uk company in the 80's and early 90's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNXNxpSbw7Mhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkdr8NxUa84http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH6HLw1lxhMJust a shame I can't find the old corporate trailer, ahh well, try to imagine scenes of people running up a rain of missiles, giant robots stomping around, ladies in practically nothing dancing, cat girls doing a strip tease, explosions, bikes, people catching giant stone heads, cops storming buildings, mega-corp execs. looking away in disgust, all the while classic celtic playing in the background like this: *chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga wuggah* UGH! *Nha dha nah nah na nahhh, dun nuh nun nuh, Nha, duh na nu nah ne, dhu neh nan nah da* UGH! *Nha dha nah nah na nahhh, dun nuh nun nuh, Nha, duh na nu nah ne, dhu neh nan nah da* UGH! *Nha dha nah nah na nahhh, dun nuh nun nuh, Nha, duh na nu nah ne, dhu neh nan nah da* UGH! UGH! UGH! UGH! "Whats happening to me!?" The whats happening to me is Tetsuo from Akira, and when it went "UGH!" it flashed a girl with white hair throwing her head back, and words like, 'fantasy', 'power' and 'force' flashed up on screen. You have no idea just how mind blowingly cool that advert is until you see it. Seriously, its one of the best corporate trailers I have ever seen. It leaves wanting more or if you like me, head banging and air guitaring and throwing your head back with all the 'Ugh!'s its just classic, its why I'll never get rid of my manga video's, and will keep a VCR handy, just so I can watch that advert. Its the bomb, seriously, none of you can imagine just how good it is.

Personally I believe it comes with the fact a lot of the so-called goths and/or emos/any person with an alternative lifestyle are in their chosen life path for the sole purpose of deviating from the norm.
Something that deviates from the norm in my part of the world is Japanese culture.
Delving into anime or manga makes them feel cultured.
Personally I find most hardcore anime fans to be highly annoying. Their shrieking fandom and obessive nature makes me want to run my nails down a chalkboard.
Not to say I'm against anime. I enjoy it when it's good.
Most anime are carbon copies of each other or have so many cliches thrown into them that they get boring quickly.
I suppose I'm just ranting.
But back to my main point, I believe a lot of it originates [key word] with a need to be different.

I saw Vampire Hunter D a long time ago (15 years) and hated it because I didn't even know what anime was. I wonder if I'd like it now?
