Lethkhar Dirk Bolero Dude, the Bible is a history book. It's a lot more truthful than all the lies people feed to their children... Collumbus discovered America, the Pilgrims and the Native Americans were friends, Santa Claus... That's just the tip of the ice berg, baby. If these aren't the end times, then I'd hate to see the real deal. *Laughs at him thinking the Bible is completely historically accurate* You do realise that there is absolutely no historical evidence backing the Bible's claim that a bunch of Jewish slaves escaped Egypt, right? That's just the tip of the iceberg, as well.
Well, you're right, but perhaps not for the reasons you think. The Bible never refers to the Hebrew tribes (they were not yet considered "jews"; that name came later, when they were nationally Judians, in what today is called Israel) as slaves. It says there were in bondage. The term slavery is a more recent conjecture. The difference is made clear when you know more about the ancient Egyptians. In the first place, they did not keep state-owned slaves, and there is some debate concerning personal slaves, because slavery was an integral part of the ancient world.
So then, what sort of bondage were the Hebrews in? The Hebrews came to Eqypt with permission of a Grand Vizier who was born a Hebrew named Joseph, but became a hign ranking Egyptian official. I do not recall his Egyptian name. There is evidence that they were allowed to live in the Land of Goshen under special despensation, but never fully assimilated. The religious history of Egypt is coimplicated and full of surprises, and there was a pharaoh who came to believe in one God, perhaps a variation on what Joseph had told of. That religion was supressed, and the Bible says "there came a Pharaoh who did not know Joseph", that is the God of Joseph, and already there was an ugly history of supressing Joseph's religion. The Hebrews, who worshipped only one God and never fully assimilated, had to have their numbers reduced (remember the killing male babies story) to even the playing field, or so he thought, and earlier pharaohs had long ago gotten tired of giving Jospeh's people a "free ride". So they were put into bondage by being required to share in labor-intensive civic building projects, same as other Egyptians conscripted for such labor. They were probably also taxed and pressured in other ways to assimilate and convert. It was bad enough that for 500 years the Hebrews were thus singled out, and the race-memory forever etched in the Jewish psyche.
The Bible is far more truthful than most skeptics realize. Studying secular history and science shoul never be brushed off, because often it gives us many valuable insites to Biblical study.

Lol that is almst funny smile Sorry, but there has been histrical proof of the Exodus for quite a while now, including hieroglyphics and the Bible is still one of the most often used references by anthropologists and archeologists. Sorry, but the Bible is the only Book that modern man has not been able to prove wrong, and believe me they have tried. More athiests have come to know Jesus as Savior because they set out to prove the Bible wrong than anything smile Got to say if that doesn't prove that it is the Word of God, I don't know what does smile

What's that? You have no credible sources?
Don't say things that you can't back up.

Lethkhar Seriously, what with all the rape, murder, violence, suicide, rebellion, incest, bestiality, use of drugs and alcohol, sexuality, and various other atrocities, the Bible is hardly appropriate for children to read. So why are children allowed into churches where they read these sorts of things? It's absolutely sickening. It's scarring their minds. If we have to censor television and music for children, why don't we censor the Bible as well?
yes the bible has bad parts but they DO NOT go inot detail! like tv does! what do you think our kids are supposed to learn from? how are they to gain a better relationship with God when they cannot read the bible!?

Pick and choose. Either soil their minds by exposing them to the Bible, or just let them be.
