i can understand how they would connect manson and slipknot to us, but greenday? HOW THE ******** s**t ARE THEY GOTH? i mean, although manson's music isnt goth, he is, and the guys from slipknot use similar themes that the old goth bands did, they just come off as whiny angsty ********.

its very easy to understand what goth is. style meansa nothing, attitude means nothing. its a certain mindset and way of thinking coupled with a literary intelligence and comes from a musical style known as deathrock, which is basically a derivative of punk rock with some electronic and new wave influences. if one bothers to look into the history of this, which sadly, most of the morons calling themselves goths these days are far too ******** lazy to do, then it's quite easy to pick out.

[Actually Goths listen to Goth music generally D:]
[Death rock is stuff like CoF, which really isn't goth]
[And, I don't think literary intelligence has anything to do with it, really.]
[Someone could read as little as possible and still like Goth music, and have that way of thinking.]

you're thinking death metal. deathrock and death metal are two wholly different things.

Most people have Goth and Emo confused. were I go to college I often get asked whats the diffrance between the two, by my frends.

I my self dress like waht ever I feel like, bee it goth, emo, freek, geek, otaku. I tend to shy away from prep how ever.

Usually, I don't go around calling myself, "goth" because putting a label on myself seems too narrow for the person I really am. My style varies from what people would see as Goth, to Punk to Emo, to Gamer, to Star Wars freak, to outaku, & etc depending on my mood that day. So, I just can't see labeling my self as one thing. So, I don't.

but sometimes labeling yourself is being social...it tells people what we are.

i don't label myself purely for the fact that i hate the labeling and stereotyping thing. when people try to label me, i say, no i can't be labelled because i don't pretend to be anyone else, i just be myself...

It seems as though every goth I meet is a stereotyped, why is that?
How can you even tell if they're imitating?

well sterotype no but a partial goth ( as my friends call it) yes
PostPosted: Tue Nov 07, 2006 4:56 pm

How can I put this...? I avoid the sterotypical goth look, the all black, the makeup, the hair, all that. I prefer to not be labeled, to let people get to know me for who I am rather than what I wear.

I get stereotyped enough for being a man, I don't need a whole new set of generalizations slapped onto me for how I dress or act. I listen to a wide variety of music, and do enjoy the darker side of life however. Most people just label me as crazy, or as its said down south, "throwed off" which is fine by me, at least they get that from how I act and not how I dress. I let my avi portray how I would like to look, let it show my darker side, because that's really all the populace of Gaia needs to see, right?

I barely fit the stereotype. Some people believe that in order to be goth, you have to fit the stereotype - you're a poser if you don't. But I don't believe that.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 20, 2006 9:27 pm

the only goth stereotype I follow is the wearing of black and chains
but only because I love black, and I love chains.
other than that, I hate stereotypes.
Im a person of my own being, so why should I have to follow a bunch of stereotypes?
if anything, when people try to label me according to what they "know", I make up a whole new label just for them
but...I cant say it here as it includes many profane words.
yes, I know it's childish, but I only do it to see the reaction on their faces.

I believe having a style of a stereotyped goth is okay, in my opinion, being a stereotyped goth can make people believe that you are goth, but on the other hand, that just makes you seem like a poser.

I'm actually not a stereotyped Goth. People don't think of me as Goth and honestly, neither do I. On some days I appear more Goth than some Goths at my school, while on others I look like anything from a hippie to a prep to a costume designer. People can't fit me into any stereotype (which bothers some of them). I once had someone this about me: "I could deal with him if he was just one thing, but..."

doesn't it trouble you guys
if you want to make people see us as goths
but then we may have to look stero-typed?

People decide who we are regardless to whether or not WE label ourselves, so why bother...at least that's why I don't call myself goth...and besides, people never fit into a singular label anyway.
