[PRP-BATT] The Road to Recovery [Mera+Leeroi v Eostre]

Hemera let Leeroi take her hand. If she wasn't in trouble or in the middle of something more important, she wouldn't fuss about something like that. She liked the affection, after all.

Not that she needed the moral support too badly, but it was still nice to have the option. Someone willing to come along, deal with her, and the like.

She listened to the others talk in the meantime. Eostre took point, and steered the conversation to a very pointed conclusion.

"Hmm." Hemera was not the biggest fan of jumping into combat immediately, based on her expectatons for the outing and general feelings on the matter. But she couldn't deny that her commanding officer had a point. Not that she could decline anyway.

And she was sure Leeroi would agree with Eostre. Hemera just looked out the window, knowing her immediate future was already decided for her and just wanting it to move along as soon as possible with little involvement from her as possible.

"I suppose," she stated, cool indifference.

Leeroi's brows furrowed a little at Hemera's response. So that's how it was going to be? No fun allowed. That was fine. The mood was ruined, but Leeroi knew how to get everyone on board.

"I think that's a great idea!" Leeroi smiled cheerfully. It actually was an important thing to test, and Leeroi knew that he wouldn't get another one on one fight out of Hemera even if he begged. Picking a safe target to fight together was the only way this would work.

"You're not afraid, are you?" Leeroi asked. His tone was genuine, but he squeezed Hemera's hand, rough. It was a clear taunt.

Hemera looked at Leeroi over her shoulder. A ridiculous question; he knew better. He had seen her in combat enough times. She understood the game he was playing.

She stood up, slipping her hand out of his as she did so. Hemera fixed up her hair. "After what we saw in space, nothing on Alternia will scare me again." She tossed it behind her shoulders again, this time with a flourish from both hands. Mera put her hands on her hips.

"You should be more concerned about me leaving you in the dust again, my dear."

Could Hemera look any more unenthusiastic? Eostre held back the urge to groan and roll her eyes. She'd do it of course, but it would be like pulling teeth. Even for sparring. Luckily for Eostre, her sergeant's kismesis got her on track, baiting her into it. How thoughtful. "Good to hear! Seems you haven't suffered any traumatic damage. Excellent."

She waved her hand again, going into 'lecturing commanding officer' mode. "The two of you against me, of course, for a fair fight. No holds barred, though do be mindful not to maim. Come along now," Eostre said to them, getting out of her chair and putting her brass knuckles on. Her fingers flexed. "We'll take this outside, and you can give me your report afterward if you'd like Hemera."

The blueblood led them to the courtyard. Carefully planted trees and flowers lined it, but there was a wide open space, several benches, a small fountain. Plenty of room to fight, despite the hard ground. It was much too much trouble to take them somewhere a little more suitable to spar - but fights happened anywhere and war wouldn't wait for an opportune gym. She made eye contact with the tealblood. "Alright. Hemera. Will you take point?"

She followed, then stopped and looked around the area. Mera wanted to have something of a grasp on her surroundings. Eostre gave her an order, and the tealblood nodded. Time to get this over with.

Hemera slid into battle stance, already figuring out her first move. She would, of course, try out her new legs.

"Cover me," she said to Leeroi, taking out her boomerang. Then, she started to run. Normal enough of a pace at first, moving in to throw it Eostre's way. But she wouldn't be too close for long. Hemera side-stepped. Then the vents on the back of her calves burst with air, pushing her forward, Mera speeding away to catch the boomerang as it circled back and keeping her distance. She had fought her superior officer before, and knew the best tactic was to keep her from getting too close. She would make herself as hard to hit as possible.

If Leeroi wasn't so pleased that his goading was successful, he might have been upset by Hemera's jab. But the fact she was playing the game at all made him too excited to be annoyed.

This was more of a fight between Hemera and Eostre, Leeroi recognized. He didn't like playing second fiddle, but he was earnestly interested in seeing how she would perform. So far, her legs were performing with impressive power. Leeroi let out a small whoop at that. She'd have it mastered in no time.

Distracted by Hemera's performance, Leeroi didn't hear the telltale bass-boosted sound of his other newest machine. Junior, Leeroi's newest and very temperamental space gerbil, had been souped up with wheels and a suit for battle. He had been tethered to Hemera's motorcycle so Leeroi could keep an eye on him, as he had been known to be violent to the other gerbils. However, it seemed he had escaped.

Luckily for Leeroi, Junior had impressed on him enough as the food-giver that he wouldn't attack his owner. Unluckily for Eostre, he happily charged in and attacked, zooming in and biting around her feet.

"Oh, ********," Was all Leeroi could manage to say.

It was impressive to watch Hemera in action, only dampened by the fact that she didn't enjoy fighting. She was a brilliant tactician. The boomerang came, and she put her arm up to defend against it. Impressive!

Then came Leeroi. Or well, his... gerbil. She frowned. Was that one from the spaceships? It attacked viciously, and Eostre kicked against it, bapping it with her foot and sending it across the courtyard.

Eostre sped up using her artifact, and went to attack the two teenagers. Hemera was too hard to hit, too smart and used to her fighting style. Leeroi wasn't. Eostre turned and punched him.

God. Why had she let Leeroi bring his gerbil?! The one that wasn't tame? She guessed he was just too persuasive when he wanted to be and she was so sure the thing wouldn't escape... And she had been wrong.

The fight didn't stop for it, though she wondered if it should. Eostre kicked it, but gently enough, so hopefully this wouldn't become a matter she'd have to intervene in. Just try to push through and try not to step on it.

"I'll take point. Get Junior!" she ordered Leeroi, taking the risk of getting up close with her boomerang so the heat would be off Leeroi and he would get to grab the multi-arm rodent.

Distracted in the attempt to recover his gerbil, Leeroi took the full force of Eostre's punch. He reeled backward from it, stunned to receive such a hard punch from a troll tinier than him. He was impressed.

Leeroi was attacked, and Junior returned the favor with an impressive headbutt to the ankles. He squeaked defiantly.

She could still go after the two of them, despite the gerbil at her heels. She frowned at it. "Jesus, Furore, you couldn't keep this thing in check?"

Eostre hit Leeroi again, then turned to Hemera and tried to punch her too.

Hemera followed through in her attempt to cover for Leeroi. Before the impact, she summoned her ice, and let it take most of the damage. It cracked after the first hit, then began to break off after the second. When she looked back at her kismesis, he still didn't have the gerbil. Instead, he appeared to be getting his a** kicked just as much as she was.

Great.

Junior officially lost all date-stowaway privileges, effective immediately.

The tealblood moved out of the way to regroup. Two trolls chasing after a gerbil during a fight would just complicate things further; Leeroi could handle his own pet. She would stay focused in the meantime. As soon as she saw an opening, she would take it, but for now, she could only huff and analyze from afar.

Junior squeaked again, as if shouting a war cry. Leeroi couldn't help but laugh a little at that. It was cute, and he was so proud that the little guy was eager to defend him.

He cut off his laughter when Junior dashed in to bite Eostre's ankle. s**t, this was not the fight for gerbils. Hopefully he wouldn't get some kind of bad mark for this. Diving in before Eostre could kick him away, Leeroi plucked the gerbil up by the scruff.

"Woops!" Leeroi laughed again, looking up at Eostre, embarrassed to have left himself so prone. Maybe she'd take pity and let him stand up first?
