The bus ride over had been very uneventful. He'd actually fallen asleep for most of it which was rare for Kwelin. Of course, lacking any sorpor slime, he'd had awful daymares of getting crushed or hurt by giant metal beams or clipboards but had woken up to safe reasonable reality. Okay maybe those words didn't really fit Alternia that great. But it was better than what he'd dreamt.

"Fine, this again." Kwelin took the other end of the tape measure and began counting out the distance once more. They repeated this process several times, mapping out an accurate analysis of how much space they had to work with for prepping the site, storing the materials and building it. Things did not usually work out according to plan and so they added additional buffers of space for emergency supplies to be delivered to. One could never be too careful, especially when dealing with trolls. Animals were almost more reliable. More predictable too.

"It looks like the trucks are starting to come in. We should unload them." He shot a look to the others, knowing Avvisi would try to find a clever way to get out of the heavy lifting while Tzofia would do anything anyone asked of her really. It was obvious which troll was a better citizen of Alternia. Oh well, it was the duty of a highblood to take care of those lower than them.

"That one doesn't have many trolls helping it. We're going." He commanded, taking charge without giving people a chance to protest. Someone had to play the role of taskmaster and it usually worked better if a stern serious a*****e did it. If you wanted something done, give it to a busy person and all that. He grunted as he reached to pick up half of a heavy beam and looked to the others for help grabbing the other end.

Luckily Tzofia's worries had left her prepared. As Philip's cup of lemonade dropped from his hands, the purpleblood was able to step back just enough to keep from getting splashed by it. She only had a second to stare sadly down at it before her eyes flickered back up to keep an eye on that lusus lest he come for hers next. Philip's face shifted briefly through horror and then back to usual and she took another moment to make sure he was alright before accepting that things were.

"Oh, thank you." She hadn't thought she'd been all that good at the saw, personally, but she'd done her best and she supposed she and Kwelin had gotten the job done, on that one tree at least. It was nice of Philip to say so though. Smile grateful, she lifted her own cup of lemonade towards him. She'd been drinking some of it, of course, but not all of it and she wasn't sick or anything so. "Would, um, would you like some of mine since yours dropped?"

Unfortunately, a worker picked then to announce it was time to move along, and the struggle of figuring out whether lemonade was allowed on the bus came around. Did Philip want it? Should she just drink the rest? Somehow or another, they managed to get the lemonade crisis sorted, and off they went on the long bus ride to the next set of sites. She waited for Peapop to come along so she'd know he was nearby (he hadn't been able to fit in the bus with them, unfortunately), and then hurried to follow orders as Kwelin took up the taskmaster role.

From lifting saws to heavy beams. Tzofia felt a bit sore before she even reached out to help with the other end.

After sharing some of Tzofia's lemonade, the detective was feeling much more refreshed! It was nice of her to offer like that when she hadn't needed to. He'd definitely made a good judgement call in inviting her to hang around him. While Philip enjoyed Kwelin's company it was nice to have someone sweet with the sour.

Like lemonade, he supposed. Huh.

"Alright, we'll help with the trucks." The orangeblood went along with the blueblood's demand, figuring it was fine. They were here to work anyway, right? And it wasn't something incredibly hard or scary like the scaffolding job! He was willing to admit that his time up there had been beautiful though. Things progressed smoothly for a while until another older troll came over and gave them a new task.

"You want me to what?" Philip blinked as a supervisor barked at him to go help with the bulldozer. The hemoanon troll laughed nervously as his group was ushered over and he wondered if a case of mistaken identity had occurred. There was no way he knew how to do this. He was pretty sure none of the trolls in his group did anything with mechanics, soil, or well... driving? They were kids! The older troll didn't seem to care though and was off again to hand out the next order. Ugh, fine he'd at least take a look at the problem.

The bulldozer sat in a pit of mud, leaning sideways against the wall of dirt. The driver had obviously not expected the dirt to be so wet or they wouldn't have steered over here. The problem was obvious but the solution wasn't. It had sunk into the dirt now and wasn't going to be driving itself out. So what should they do? Philip had no idea. He walked around it a few times, scratching his head.

"Yep that thing's stuck." He offered helplessly.

Prompt: It's no easy task preparing the giant spinning barrels of concrete, and takes a small group of trolls working together to fill the equipment. A rather unlucky troll takes a topple into the vat, and you spend the next hour pulling them out and chipping off concrete from their limbs.

"What did you do." Kwelin groaned at Philip after joining him by the bulldozer. He seemed to be under the impression that his colleague had been the one to break it. Why did the orangeblood have to have such bad luck? Or maybe it had been from messing around as he was prone to doing. It had not gone unnoticed, the little things Philip was doing to try and impress or entertain Tzofia. Grinding his teeth, the blueblood grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him away from the machine. If he had truly busted it, the last thing they wanted to do was be seen with it.

"Look, over there, they need help rolling it." There was a concrete vat that was apparently being filled by manual labor. Not a pleasant task but a necessary one. He motioned for the rest of them to follow him and he helped pick up some containers to pour into the vat. It took about thirty minutes of this before they had finally filled it halfway. Letting out a sigh of relief, he wiped at his brow and gave the others a nod of approval. They had done that incredibly well in record time. At least, in his non-professional opinion. Kwelin was not a construction expert.

"I'm going to take a look at it for the paperwork." Peering over the edge of the platform, Kwelin checked to make sure the materials inside were flush up against the inner markings of the vat designating the quantity inside. It all looked pretty good. And then it all looked pretty blurry?

HIS GLASSES WERE IN THE VAT.

Kwelin screamed.

"PHILIP! AVVISI! TZOFIA! HELP!" The blueblood had gone as pale as possible, totally lost and half blind without his eyesight. A construction zone seemed like the worst place in the world to be if you couldn't see! Who knew what kind of dangerous hazards he'd encounter without being able to protect himself?! He clutched at Pawpa in his arms for comfort.

"Okayyy." Philip replied as Kwelin dragged them away into a new task. It was dizzying on these sites, one second you were in a pit and the second you were off playing with wires! One didn't now what was coming next! It was a little hard to keep up but also very exciting. He was taking this chance to learn everything he could! Not only would it help him learn how to pretend to be working on something- a skills he could use during disguised events, it was also plain cool. The orangeblood really liked to learn new things. Knowledge was very powerful.

"Knock yourself out, buddy." The detective laughed at Kwelin's insistence on preparing the paperwork. It was no secret that paperwork was more the blueblood's strong suit than his. He could do it, he just didn't wanna take away Kwelin's one true joy in life. Philip stopped paying attention and looked across the site to watch some other trolls at work. He figured they should start looking for yet another job to help out with. Suddenly a scream emitted right next to him.

"Kwelin!? What-" The boy yelped, clutching his ear and turning to demand an explanation. He got one before he even finished the question. Where had Kwelin's glasses gone? The mystery didn't take long to solve when he looked down into the vat where Kwelin was staring in shock. How did they get in there? Crap, he had to do something quick or Kwelin wouldn't be able to see for the rest of the night!

"Hang on! I'll get them!" The orangeblood scrambled to lean over the edge of the vat. Swatting at the concrete mix, he dug around for the missing object desperately. Where were they? C'mon c'monnnn! A small bit of black stuck up and his eyes locked on! There!

In a feat of glory, he reached in and grabbed the glasses before toppling in himself. He'd overextended his balance, whoops!

"Got 'em!" The boy grinned sheepishly before getting fished out. By the time he was free the concrete had stuck to his clothes and skin and was hard to peel off. In several places he started to bleed on his arms.

"Owww." Philip winced, picking himself clean slowly. The true casualty though, had been his hat.

There were a lot of things involved in these building sites that Tzofia had never had to do or even think about doing before. Idly, as she helped carry more material over, she wondered if she would ever have to pour things to mix concrete again, or saw down a tree, or stare helplessly at a bulldozer. She supposed this was probably a one time thing. So she'd better work as hard at it now as she could!

As Kwelin nodded his approval and leaned over to see the measurements for paperwork, Tzofia took the moment to rest. One of them would find something else for them to do pretty quickly, she figured, so now was probably the best time to catch her breath. Just as she was beginning to relax though, there came a sudden scream from very close by. She startled, eyes going wide and heartbeat picking up immediately to a painful rhythm that was all too familiar.

She wanted to turn and go over to see what was wrong, she did, but hearing the way he'd shouted for help had reminded her so much of another night and another space venture and the building falling down around her and the debris pressing in so tight she couldn't breathe she couldn't move she couldn't-

The next time she got her eyes open, she was crouched on the ground, her arms covering the back of her head and neck as much as possible. She drew in as deep a breath as she could, blinked away tears, and reminded herself, as she stared down at the shadow she cast in the moonlight, that there was nothing up above to fall on her.

As she slowly pulled herself back to her feet, she heard an 'owww' and her attention snapped over immediately to find Philip and Kwelin both and make sure they were alright. Kwelin seemed distressed and Philip seemed alright if a bit pained, but- Oh! She could see the orange welling up on his arms. She filed the color away in her memory, to be added to a journal entry, and then rushed to his side.

"You're hurt! Oh no, oh no, um, are you okay? That looks bad." Tzofia knew she had a way to fix it, but anxiety pressed in around her bloodpusher. She couldn't let anyone know, but...But Philip had gone so far out of his way to help her. He'd checked to make sure she wasn't too scared and given her a job to do so she'd feel useful and- Useful.

"Promise not to tell anyone," she murmured, swiping a sleeve across her eyes to clear them of fresh tears. Then, before she could second guess herself, she lifted her hand to her mouth and bit down hard. Ducking her head with a wince and selfishly using the motion to keep from meeting anyone's eyes, she hurriedly reached the now bleeding hand out towards his arm.

"PHILIP!" Kwelin had cried out hoarsely as the gray blob that was the orangeblood jumped out of sight into the vat. He grabbed after the kicking and flailing legs but without his glasses, he was not coordinated enough to succeed. Clutching onto the sides of the equipment, he barked at some older nearby trolls to help fish his partner out from the mess. His body was shaking, partially from fear but mostly from rage. Rage at himself for allowing such a foolish thing to happen. Rage at Philip making such a sacrifice on his behalf. He was supposed to protect the lowbloods, not the other way around.

Before he could piece together the right words to say, Tzofia burst into tears and his face softened. He felt even worse. She obviously cared a lot about Philip and it was his fault that the boy was now bleeding all over everything. Kwelin shuffled to take off the jacket he'd brought along to keep warm on the cool Alternian nights in order to cover up Philip's arms. He knew the other boy would not want anyone to see the color leaking out of him.

But before he could hand it over, something miraculous happened. A small act of courage that would change the entire course of his life.

"Tzofia-" He breathed out in wonder and confusion, "You're h... healing him?" Drops of purple fell from her hand onto Philip's and the blueblood could barely parse what was going on. She was a healer? She had powers? Powers that could and probably would attract the wrong kind of attention from crime lords in the big cities like NHC and Civisect. He draped his arms and the jacket around the three of them to shield the current activities from view.

"I won't tell a soul. I have... concerns however. We must discuss them privately once we are done here." His face was grim and worried. She had proven herself to be a kind and hardworking, if not perhaps overly humble, girl with a knack for stumbling into trouble. He wanted to protect her.

"Tzof- what're you-" Philip stammered as the purpleblood whispered and then began to bleed. Confused, he was about to grab her to check what she'd done and why did you do that when suddenly his arm began to tingle.

"You..." The wounds were closing and the orangeblood stared at Tzofia in bewildered amazement. Somehow she always seemed to find a new way to surprise him! More questions circled around her but he knew this was not the time or place. She'd been pretty obvious in her want to keep this a secret. Hurriedly he helped spread Kwelin's jacket over her and himself. It was sort of funny in a way, both of them didn't want others to see them bleed. The detective shared a smile with her and tried to calm her down.

"It's okay. I'm alright now. Thank you." The orangeblood took her hand, letting his blood cover her's in case anyone else was watching. He'd sacrifice his hemoanonymity at this point in time to protect her if he could. It was the least he could do. For now the goal was to reassure her everything was alright. There would be time for questions later. Philip spared Kwelin a glance as he wondered what the blueblood was thinking of this new development. Augh there was so much he wanted to do and ask but couldn't!

Gwenyn had been, admittedly, lagging behind at doing much of anything, really. The others were so excited to do work and Gwenyn spent most of her time shuffling around, not doing much to contribute but wanting to observe them anyways. Her eyes flitted over the others, mentally noting them down in her mind: Kwelin, glasses, dark blueblood, a little uptight. Philip, cheerful, only grey colors on his body, hemoanon? Nice hat. Tzofia, nervous, purpleblooded, apparently famous. Scars. And lastly, Avvisi, tealblood, and she was-- Right in front of her, talking to her. Gwenyn stumbled backward a little, mouth opening just a tad as the other talked to her a bit one sidedly. She crossed her arms a little, glancing at the camera-- Reporter, nosy, very in your face. "Arrhen, Gwenyn." She stated a little stiffly, but the camera made her force a smile on. After all, Darty could be watching. "I am very hyped." Her voice was monotone, but she nodded to keep up with appearances. "We have been going pretty far in the span of sweeps, so this could be attributed to a success." She wished she could be in space to see what was up there. Being a kid sucked. Her last question made her pause, however. Why was she out there? "I wanted to see everything first hand." She said with a nod, hair bobbing up and down in response while the greenblood tucked her arms behind her back a little uncomfortably. The camera was still, a bit too close to her face. While she was at it, Gwenyn turned her eyes toward the others, eying them over. Still doing work, she guessed. Playing around with a saw, until-- A white lusus jumped out of his suit and threw itself at the wailing purpleblood, while the hemoanon danced and sang around. She was a little more relaxed when the camera was shut down, shuffling to the side and simply watching the other trolls have their fun as they danced and had their fun.

It was short lived, however, as the construction for 2B was finished and they were all forced to run after the retreating form of the golf carts. Gwenyn was already on the golf cart as they chased after it, pretending not to notice they were running and only stopping it when they "managed to catch her attention." While they took a bit to arrive at the next site, Gwen enjoyed it, simply listening to their interactions and partaking in the occasional small chat until they arrived at the next place. Watching Philip remove his jacket and have fun in the dirt made her raise a brow as he started kicking it around. She followed them around in silence, listening to them talk and bicker until they arrived at the last site. This place seemed a tad more dangerous than the other sites, having them kids work with a bulldozer. She guessed they didn't know what they were doing, and such made sense with their age, but they definitely should've realized it was dangerous to mess around with vats and concrete and losing ones glasses in the concrete. Philip had gotten hurt and something happened with Tzofia and Gwenyn had been listening in, but had not been looking. Her eyes peered over. "Is something the matter?" She asked curiously, eyes peering over toward the others, attempting to keep her expression neutral. What had happened? She'd heard an 'ow', and now...? Everyone seemed alright. There had to have been something up.
