Ixodi clattered to the floor at Shun's kick. Its legs scrambled and shook and gripped at the detective's pant leg. The creature was, perhaps unsurprisingly given its behavior, somewhat fragile -- there were cracks in its face where Shun's shoe had made contact, and a couple of eyes started to flicker and buzz like broken flourescent lights.

Something wiggled out of the crack. A translucent, tendrilly thing, like part of a fancy sea slug. It whipped around aimlessly in search of the assailant.

"Shouldn't have brought the ******** cop," Julian quipped irritably. "You just woke it the ******** up!!" He'd summoned a pair of salad tongs into his hand -- Lady had given a couple basic training sessions on magic along with the whole radical self-care shtick. Now he was swiping at the veilworm's arm a bit clumsily, trying to get it to grab on.

He was doing a horrible job. Instead it grabbed his damn wrist and started to rapidly slither its way up his arm.

"Information is fine but we need to get rid of the damn veilworm first," he hissed. And sure enough the thing made itself known. Using some of the shadows in the room, he waved his hand to set them into motion. A few shadowy tendrils lashed out towards Ixodi's form before they sort of shimmered as they crystallized to try and hold it in place for Julian.

Only it was too late as the veilworm started to crawl up his arm. Letting out a breath, he moved forth to try and grab his arm to keep it still before attempting to make a precise slice at the veilworm itself with the shadow dagger.

"Lovely," Ashton drawled, in a tone that might have best described as Little-Timmy-get-that-bottle-of-gorilla-glue-out-of-your-mouth-or-I-call-the-coroner; he wasn't a creator, he was a repurposer. Sure, he could have pulled upon his wolverine form's claws, weapons that they were - but he wanted to scrub the entire experience of moonwalkerdom out of his soul-essence with bleach.

Instead, like a ******** nerd, Ashton gave himself Wolverine™ claws because his entire life was a ******** joke. With surgical precision, he went at the veilworm, aiming to pull it off Julian's arm and skewer it without doing any damage to Julian himself.

The tendril snapped into pieces and withered and fell away. "******** hell," Julian swore again, gritting his teeth. Good thing the cop and the wolverine had good reflexes. His own were s**t. And he'd summoned damned salad tongs instead of a real weapon.

He shot forward with them again. This time he broke through more of Ixodi's crumbling carapace and grabbed hold of the parasite inside.

"Container," he requested.

Oh. They were going to be fishing straight into the head of Ixodi. Okay, then. When Julian requested a container, he looked around to see if there was anything in the immediate area. He wasn't really good with conjuring things, so he shadowstepped further into the room to see if he could find a jar somewhere.

A roll of the eyes. It wasn't like this was anything more than an oversized tick, and ticks were easy enough to dislodge. But Ashton, caught up in the moment, didn't think that he couldn't - so he handed over an oversized glass jar with some blurred logo on it. Something else from popular media, probably.

Keeping bugs wasn't too hard. The difficulty was in keeping them alive, sometimes.

"For all we know you overheard the whole thing," said Julian, gratefully stuffing the large veilworm into the jar (with a bit of struggle) and giving it a hard stare. Another tendril had gotten caught between the lip of the jar and the lid as it was screwed shut. Like the others it looked like a large, gelatinous sea slug.

He turned to Ixodi, whose legs were twitching a bit as it continued to crumble unpleasantly. It was otherwise unresponsive. "Sucks for this whatever, but," he scratched his head with his free hand, "Prolly would've ended up a public health hazard even without its buddy here." It was hard for him to feel much sympathy for a parasite, even if it had been under the thrall of another parasite.

"Thanks for coming up. I'm gonna take this down to Melany and Hart. Hit me up for a favor whenever you're ready to collect on it."

Ashton had managed to get the container first. Shun made his way back over to the other two, staring at the veilworm that was now contained. He hoped it would be eliminated before too long.

He shot a glance over at Ixodi. While, when he planned on getting the veilworm out with force, he hadn't exactly planned on killing the giant tick... assuming it was dead right now. It was a little hard for him to tell. That said, he didn't really feel all too bad either way.

"Right," he grumbled, then turned to leave.
