Warning calls blared in her head as she watched the hunter's weapon charge up and fire at her. Had this been a melee fight she would have liked to think she could parry his blows, but there was no way of dodging this from point blank range. The shot sent her reeling backwards, tumbling on the ground a distance away.

“A hunter,” she echoed, taking in the words. Huh, so this one knew the way of the hunt. Her assessment of his threat would have to be updated.

“Yes.” she grinned despite herself, climbing to her feet whilst clutching at her stomach. “So you know what we are.”

"Of course," he said, and the answer was monster, but even that was not true, not quite. Abomination, perhaps, was more fitting, born from blood and bathed in it too, an existence that served only to reap, to destroy, to salt and burn the earth itself.

(And hadn't he tried, too? With a force worse than this?)

Kostya aimed his gun to the sky, and arcing numbers began to spiral around his weapon in a great whirl, growing vast and firing into the air like a beam, concentrated blasts so close together the eye couldn't discern.

And then the beam cut out, snuffed into darkness-- and there was silence. One moment, two, a stillness in the air.

And then they rained down, a plague in cyan and crimson, erupting into electric bursts as they landed, electrocuting whatever they touched. Kostya included.

She let out a scoff, flipping her blade in her hand. He had been let off easy while she was too busy observing his strange attacks. Wings flared, she was ready to lunge at him once more but the human's actions brought her to a halt. What-- were there more tricks up his sleeve? She would be sure to dodge them all this time...

But then the blasts stopped for a moment, and she was confused. The following rain of cyan and red could have hardly been avoided. Screaming in anguish as the blasts pelted and burned her skin, the horsewoman dared to capture a good last glimpse of the human that had done this to her.

“YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS, WRETCHED HUMAN!” she shrieked as the last of her dissipated under the relentless attack.

Awakening at the pumpkin patch was hardly a new experience, but never did she feel as bitter about it as she did before. She had underestimated the human for sure, but it spoke more about her inability to fight and kill. Dishonour and shame. Her blade has been dulled. Gzifa stabbed her dagger into the ground with gritted teeth, swearing to get stronger. And then she would be back.
