Pegasaurus Rex And it seems to be like I thought with this flash sale: Step 1: Cause inflation. Step 2: Sell inflated items at a high price for GC. I really wish people would stop buying. As always, well done with your thread, sweetheart. Though I can't support this gold sink or the lack of thought behind it, I applaud your thread. One aspect I wholeheartedly agree with is that I wish people would just stop buying. I really do. But, that's just not going to happen and this gold sink would not have been necessary in the first place had Gaia not completely flooded the MP with endless amounts of gold. That's why inflation is so high and member loyalty is so low IMHO.

frozen_water I'm actually excited for this, Uncle Kenny has been talking about the upcoming feature for a while, and it was common knowledge in the SF and GCD forums that it was going to be an experimental gold sink (something they've never tried before). I'm not sure how it'll all pan out, but I am hopeful. I have to say that I'm always happy to hear a point of view different than my own. I've only been able to understand the concept of gold sinks under Sagger's regime, but this one I just don't get. Gaia itself is the one that brought about the need for a gold sink in the first place. Plus, 100million for the chance to be in a comic? Personally, I don't get it. But then again, I never understood how anyone could want a custom doll of themselves. Variety. It makes the world go round. I'm interested to see what this gold sink actually does.

They've tried this before. Greedy Gaians aren't going to donate millions of gold for nothing. Achievements mean nothing on this site and the events are passing fancies. They won't get enough donations when we're getting nothing solid in return for them.
I will participate myself because I want to help...but honestly I think that once again Gaia is overestimating their ideas on this one.
They don't much much about how an economy works apparently and they don't know much about greed, despite it being their most obvious trait.

frozen_water Raven of the Darkened Sky I was disgusted by this. I've been on this site for many years and even I cannot afford to give them 10,000 gold. This is ridiculous. If they want a gold sink event that's fine but I'm not participating. I just want to play games and have fun at the events, maybe get some cool new items. I don't want to pay for every little thing even in the fake currency.... 10,000g really isn't that much, it's about the cost of a nice gold shop item. They've had a couple events like this in the past too, one year they were having us donate trash items to help clean out the system a bit. Of course it's optional, and you're entitled to your opinion, I just don't think this should be taken as some drastic change for the site, or out of line with what a user who's been around for a while should expect. No, I don't think it's something drastic with the site. And I was here for dumpster dive, which was pretty fun and I enjoyed. My problem is the gold sink events. I feel like they try these things to control the markets and it alienates people like me who are trying to actually build up their gold. But again, I am not participating. I'm not saying others should not. I'm just tired of the way gaia is handling gold sinks and the constant barrage of cash shop items.

It's pointless.
Why on Earth would anyone 'donate' to begin with? People have quests to complete, friends to donate to, art to buy. Unless you're so stupidly rich with gold that you've literally nothing to do with it, (And I'm talking about having hundreds of millions of gold lying around, seeing as the decent rewards are up there), I can't begin to fathom why an individual would waste their gold there.

When I saw it I was shocked by it, but haven't heard anymore so don't know if they are really going to do it, since the Marketplace is all over the place with inflation it is kinda annoying. Can't even quest most items.

Well, so far it seems to be working. Knock on wood, everyone. I checked the Marketplace today to update my shop and there's already signs of change. The total gold revenue took a dive, which could suggest that either people are buying less or selling for less. And some items are going down in price by at least 50%...
We're not out of the woods yet, but there seems to be a promising start. I'd better adjust prices.

With the sheer amount people are donating it might actually work and I might be eating my words. Hopefully.
I donated a million myself...I can't imagine how anyone would be willing to donate more than that but some people will I'm sure.
