"Mmm." Bastion's eyebrow rose, a calculating look overtaking his features. "Well, good. At least I know you'll be in good hands. It will be difficult to keep an eye on you.." He let that particular sentence die out. Admitting that he knew his attentions would be focused was just going to start trouble. "But I'm glad you'll be there. At least I will know someone. I admit, this was a rather big step, perhaps too big, for my part. I intended to try and extend my social boundaries, but instead of simply getting to know a few new people, I.. I threw myself into this giant event."
Bastion did nothing half-a**. If he was going to change, he'd found the biggest, most ridiculous way to do it.
"I'll probably be the most disappointing date." He chuckled and shook his head. "Poor ghoul. No idea how pathetic her new horseman friend truly is."
When he looked up, a giant set of buildings loomed ahead. "Aha! Is this the famous Maul that sells the skellyphones? Why such a big building for such a small device?"

Nergui's features softened into fondness as Bastion declared her in good hands for the event. She was inclined to agree. Who better to escort her to such a grande event then one whom she trusted not just her life with, but also her happiness. The mare couldn't have asked for a better companion then the big stallion.
She frowned though, when he predicted himself a horrible date, and she gave his arm a squeeze while she shook her head. "No, never." A kiss found his cheek, and a reassuring smile. "I enjoy your company immensely, and I dare say I'm a harsher critic then your Sophie." The mare had never been the easiest to get along with. It was why she had few friends, and most were males.
She squeezed his arm again, patting it. "I'm proud of you, and you'll do fine."
Sentiment was short lived as the maul stole Bastion's attention, and she couldn't help but chuckle. "Because it doesn't just hold skellyphones. There are hundreds of merchants inside selling all manner of things."

"Noni, you are a little biased." Bastion teased, smirking coyly as he bent in to squeeze her chin affectionately with gentle fingers. "Which is why I love you. But I must disagree, my company is nothing to be sought after." He let her face go, and his eyes turned straight ahead, keeping them hidden away so she couldn't see the hurt in them. "It couldn't be. Or we wouldn't be having this conversation."
He distracted himself with the vastness of the Maul as they entered. "Ahh, a bazaar of merchandise, then. How delightful. I only wish I had seeds of my own to spare. Do they barter? I've brought a few pieces.."

"Perhaps a little, but that doesn't change the fact that you are wonderful company." She frowned, head turning so she could look at him, and it broke her heart to hear him speaking of himself in such away. Although he tried to hide the pain in his eyes, he couldn't hide from her, and though he tried to change the subject with excitement for the maul, the mare wasn't having any of it. She stopped, pulling him around by her hold on his arm, and enveloped him in a tight, almost desperate hug. Her face buried against the warmth of his neck.
"Bastion Leto you are, and always have been, a hopeless fool." The words seemed harsh, but if the fragile state of her tone was any indicator the mare was close to tears. How dare Mjoll do this to him, her lovable, kind, generous cousin. The oblivious mare had ruined him, and it broke Nergui's heart. "Just because one hopeless woman can't see how amazing you are, tat doesn't mean the rest of us are so terribly blind."
She drew away, staring up at him with misty eyes. "You are amazing, can't you see that?" Pale brows dipped, head tilting as she tried to make him understand. "The most generous person I have ever met, kind to all, accepting." Her hands gripped his arms, and she was sorely tempted to shake him. "And talented! Bastion, you're perfect as you are. Better then me, certainly nicer."

Bastion sucked in a sharp breath when his cousin pulled him around, and he stared down at her incredulously, until her reasoning became clear. He didn't want to hear it. He tried to pull his arms away, and he tried to turn, but Noni wouldn't allow it. He was forced to sit there and hear what Noni believed to be the truth, but what Bastion never could. And it hurt. It hurt, because he wished he could believe it. He wished for one single second that he'd ever felt worthy of that smile Mjoll graced others with, but would never give him. Just one look, one smile, one moment of notice might have been enough to last him a lifetime. But when she finally noticed him, it was for all he wrong reasons. It left him severely lacking in any self-confidence, and there was no balm that would soothe it as quickly as his cousin wished. Words were just words. He'd already broken the ruby in two, a heart forever broken. There was nothing left to do now but try and live a normal life. And find sparks of happiness where he could. "No." Bastion murmured sadly. "I can't see that. But it's nice to know you can. A pity you're my cousin, for you're the only one whose eyes see me that way. If ever I had a chance to be loved, it was only through your eyes." He tweaked her nose, and then pulled her into a hug. "Stop fussing, now. Things will be all right." Bastion was not good at many things. But he was a very good liar.

She didn't understand how he could be so very blind to what was so obvious to her. It made her want to cry, to shake him, to shout at him even, but she did none of that. Instead she let him tweak her nose and make light of things, because to delve any deeper would be like ripping open wounds. Now was not the time, and certainly not the place. when he pulled her into a hug she returned it, arms tightening fiercely around him, and only when her face was hidden against his shoulder did she allow a single shimmering tear to fall from her eyes. It was hastily wiped away as they separated, and she forced a soft curling smile upon dark lips. At the very least, and cold comfort to be true, she knew he was aware of how very much she loved him. Although, it was heartbreaking to know that even that love couldn't mend the hurt that Mjoll had done him from simply never noticing or appreciating her wonderful cousin. Nergui had never thought ill of the other horsewoman before, but in that moment she hated her. Rubbing the bend of a knuckle along her cheek, she twitched her head towards the maul. "Shall we then? Your Skellyphone awaits." She knew fora fact that the shops in the maul didn't barter, but she was confident she'd brought along enough seeds for this expenditure. The idea and the necessity eluded her, but this was important to Bastion, so she would indulge him.

"My skellyphone!" The sound of it pleased him, and he grinned as he dragged her in, looking for the first store to harbor skellyphones in its windows. It wasn't hard - one of the first shops was littered with nothing but skellyphones; of all different shapes and sizes. "My.. do they really sell nothing else here?" Bastion murmured curiously as he opened the door. "Are these items so sought after that one could sell nothing but - Noni, they have gem covers!" Bastion was a glitter whore.

Nergui couldn't help but smile at his excitement. It was truly endearing, and she gave his arm a fond squeeze as he pulled her through the door to the shop. It did indeed hold every shape and size of phone imaginable, and yet the mare till didn't understand the draw. If her understanding of the device was accurate, then it was used to communicate. So why then didn't the holder simply seek out the one they wished to talk to and have an honest, face to face conversation? Perhaps it was just Her, but she liked to watched the subtle play of emotion as it swept across a person's face. A voice in your ear just wasn't the same. Besides, she already had enough murmurs in her head, she didn't need another. "Seems so, from what I've seen, it looks like the entire student body owns one." Her lips pursed, and she picked one of the phones up, turning it in her hands before stifling a laugh behind the backs of her fingers as Bastion discovered the gem coated covers. "Will you be wanting one of those, then, to go along with your new skellyphone?"

"Yes." Bastion breathed. "I will get one of these. But first I must choose a phone to go inside of it, I suppose."
And it was as if his words had summoned from the fiery pits of hell - a salesman, arriving in a puff of black smoke to stand in front of the two horsemen. He was two feet tall, wearing a crisp black business suit, and a smile filled with far too many teeth. "Hello hello! Welcome, I hear you're in the market for a new phone! May I interest you in some options? What exactly are you looking for?"
Bastions needs were simple. He explained to the imp that all he needed was a phone that allowed pictures to be sent to him, but the imp continued to try and upsell the horseman. It was a difficult sell, as Bastion simply kept repeating pictures, I must receive pictures, and they hardly got very far.

Nergui took a step back as the salesimp appeared before them ,and leaning into Bastion, hissed besides his ear. "What witchcraft is this?" Of course her cousin may very well have not heard her. He was currently being so thoroughly talked up the Imp she couldn't imagine much else leaking past the never ending stream of "amazing" offers that were being somewhat pushily shoved at them.
Bastion kept insisting he needed something simple, but the imp didn't seem to be listening. Finally the priestess had had enough, and bending down, she caught the imp's attention, meeting his dark eyes with her own mismatched, glowing pair. "My cousin is in the market for a simple model that will do what he requires it to do. That is all we need." She smiled, but it wasn't in a friendly way. "If you try to lure us into a higher cost for services we do not need, you will not like the outcome." Her tone was sweet, but there was a very clear, very cold undercurrent of a warning there.

The imp might have ignored Nergui's threats, but he wasn't getting anywhere with Bastion, either, so he sighed and grumbled, pulling out the basic phones they had. "You've got the 666LG, with or without the swivel out keyboard. And I just gotta say, if you really are into getting pictures, you're gonna need to up your data plan. I'd recommend the unlimited - " He cringed at another glare from Nergui. " - Fine, fine, 4gb is average. Get that."
Bastion seemed effervescently pleased at the outcome. And then he handed the imp his gemmed up cover. "We will take it! And this as well!"

As the imp finally catered to Bastion's very limited needs, phone wise, Nergui straightened back up and returned her hand her cousin's elbow. She let him take care of picking out the phone he wanted, as well as the cover, and simply followed along as they were lead to the counter for activation and check out.
"I still don't understand the appeal, but your excitement is obvious." Her purse slid off her shoulder, and she set it on the counter, ready to extract the seeds when the imp had finished whatever it was he was doing with the phone.

Bastion leaned over and kissed his cousin flush on the cheek, holding her elbow affectionately as she paid for his frivolous desire. "You are the very best I could have ever asked for in my life, Noni. I love you very much."
The imp, of course, took this the wrong way, and made lewd gestures with his eyebrows. "Sugar momma, huh? Very nice."
Bastion turned and knocked his fist into the imp so hard, the smoke returned and the imp popped out of existence.
"Ahh.. I think.. hmm."
...
"Leave the money and run."

If ever there was a member of the clans that saw how very soft the mare could be, it was Bastion. He kissed her cheek, and she leaned into him.
And she would had responded, but she too had caught that lewd brow wiggle and terribly inappropriate comment from the Imp. It had her damn near snarling at the thing, releasing Bas' arm as she jerked towards teh counter, ready to volt the thing so she could tear the imp apart.
Except.. Bastion had gotten there first. She froze as he punched the small salesmen right in the face and sent him back to wherever he'd come from in a puff of gray smoke. "Wow." That.. was actually really impressive. But horsemen were already in trouble for being too violent, so she hastily grabbed a handful of seeds from her purse and dropped them on the counter before tugging Bastion with her out of the store at a very brisk walk.

It was a brisk walk indeed. The rest of the Maul would have to remain in Bastion's imagination, because he was already out of the building and quite far away before he actually started to take out his phone box and open it up. "I have a skellyphone!" He cried out in a hush, the moment he felt it was safe. "I have.. a.. hmm."
Taking the phone out left him with a feeling of helplessness. He didn't even know how to turn it on. After a moment, he slipped it back into its bag, and gave Nergui an embarrassed smile.
"It's fine. Sophie will know how to make it work. I'll just ask her tomorrow." He stretched out his arms, and took his cousin in one of them, leaning against her heavily. "Thank you for this, Noni. It means a lot to me to know I am not alone. And if you ever need anything, you know I'll always be here for you, as well."
