The Merchant of Venice: so slashable it's untrue. Read the begining and see what I mean.

Oh man, yea Merchant of Venice. We were reading that in class and halfway through every scene people burst out laughing. Even if the introduction bit explained why Antonio would appear homosexual in the eyes of a modern audience... it's still... *o*
For example when Bassanio said to Shylock: "May you stead me? Will you pleasure me?"
X_x Maybe it's the way we interpret things these days.

I'm not the only one who thought of Mercutio and Benvolio....
I feel rather relieved.

Shakespeare wrote most of his poetry to his male lover :3
I forget his name, though... >> Lord of something.

I think a lot of people automatically assumed Shakespeare was straight after seeing Shakespeare in Love I mean, while it did hold some truth to it, like the fact that he was indeed married, but there's an entire possibility that he swung both ways! I mean, in his will, he left his wife a bed. He gave his daughters almost half of his land, for Pete's sake! Why wouldn't he also give Anne something as well? (Sorry... sweatdrop I'm really obsessed with history...) And anyways, he only married Anne Hathaway because she was pregnant in the first place...

I'm not much of a Shakespeare fan *understatement!* but I found Romeo and Juliet quite slashy when we were forced to read it in year 9. Romeo and Mercutio (I think... it was years ago...)

>> Only the blackest of hearts
For Romeo & Juliet: Mercutio/Benvolio - Paris/Romeo I have to agree with Othello/Iago - so slashy... also, I would like to bring up my own two cent pairing: Brutus/Cassius (so they may be brothers-in-law... but have NONE of you read Gravitation - certainly didn't stop Touma)...
Quote: BRUTUSI am not gamesome: I do lack some part Of that quick spirit that is in Antony. Let me not hinder, Cassius, your desires; I'll leave you. CASSIUSBrutus, I do observe you now of late: I have not from your eyes that gentleness And show of love as I was wont to have: You bear too stubborn and too strange a hand Over your friend that loves you. BRUTUSCassius, Be not deceived: if I have veil'd my look, I turn the trouble of my countenance Merely upon myself. Vexed I am Of late with passions of some difference, Conceptions only proper to myself, Which give some soil perhaps to my behaviors; But let not therefore my good friends be grieved-- Among which number, Cassius, be you one-- Nor construe any further my neglect, Than that poor Brutus, with himself at war, Forgets the shows of love to other men. CASSIUSThen, Brutus, I have much mistook your passion; By means whereof this breast of mine hath buried Thoughts of great value, worthy cogitations.
Quote: BRUTUSThat you do love me, I am nothing jealous; What you would work me to, I have some aim: How I have thought of this and of these times, I shall recount hereafter; for this present, I would not, so with love I might entreat you, Be any further moved. What you have said I will consider; what you have to say I will with patience hear, and find a time Both meet to hear and answer such high things. Till then, my noble friend, chew upon this: Brutus had rather be a villager Than to repute himself a son of Rome Under these hard conditions as this time Is like to lay upon us. CASSIUSI am glad that my weak words Have struck but thus much show of fire from Brutus.
Can feel the purest of love <<

While I was reading The Taming of the Shrew, I kept trying to slash Hortensio and Lucentio, but it didn't work. XD Horatio/Hamlet is fun, of course, but my favorite pairing would have to be.. Guildenstern/Rosencrantz.
Okay, so maybe they have no personalities whatsoever in the play itself, but.. R&G are Dead made them awesome.

Ah, lurkindarkness, I love that ship too. Cassius gets to be a bit of a drama queen king queen toward the end, but hey, that's just part of his appeal. I'm hoping that there will be more slash for Romeo and Juliet after this movie comes out. Lots of fine looking gents there. wink

::Shakespeare is so unbelievably slashable. And of course I mean the man as well as his plays. I haven't had much of a chance to slash his characters as I've only read four of his plays (three and a half, really; I didn't finish Julias Cesar) and only while I was reading 'Romeo and Juliet' did I know about the wonders of slash. Then of course my teacher just had to mention Mercutio/Romeo in class, which started a huge 'Ohmigod, Fryen, you like gay guys?' discussion. It was worth it though. I was nearly dying with happiness when we watched the old movie and Romeo was calming Mercutio and cuddling with him. I had to stuff my fist in my mouth to keep myself quiet. When does that movie come out, by the way, Palindrome? More importantly; when will it come out in English?::

in my Shakespeare class we spent a lot of time on homoerotica in Shakespeare. My teacher is as bad as we are. we speculated a LOT on Antonio and Sebastian (Twelfth Night or What You Will) as well as many others: Antipholus and Dromio of Syracuse (The Comedy of Errors) Macbeth and Banquo (Macbeth) Rugby and Dr. Caius (Merry Wives of Windsor) and so on...

I've got the link to the site here which would probably tell more....but I can't read Japanese, so no help there. sweatdrop I went to see 12th Night performed last year with some friends, and we liked Antonio/Sebastian too. heart We also liked that Orsino kissed Sebastian at the end (and Olivia kissed Viola. Good fun.)
